Event Horizon - the sci fi fan's favorite horror film.

JoeCensored

Looking forward to your Horror series, guys! Great announcement. Here's my pitch: a viewing of X-Files episodes that are specifically WRITTEN BY DARREN MORGAN, who took the series to another level by mixing the horror and the dark comedy incredibly well. His scripts are almost to-a-fault all top-tier X-Files standalones. They're hilarious and weird and often heartbreaking. They include: Season 2: "Humgbug" Season 3: "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," "War of the Coprophages," "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'" Then, if you're still curious... his episodes were the only watchable thing about the recent X-Files reboot: Season 10: "Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster" Season 11: "The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat" (which works as a pretty great epilogue/series finale, in my opinion...)

ScotchBeard78

Personally my favourite horror is Halloween (1978), but They Live is pretty good too, so is The Night Stalker. Ever considered checking out the old British Hammer horror films? They made a whole series of Dracula films over about 15 years, most of which i love, the same with Frankenstein.

jon bolton

Some episode-specific anthology recommendations: Amazing Stories Season 1 episode 13 called “The Sitter.” From the 1980’s Twilight Zone: Season 1 Episode 15 “A Matter of Minutes.” Also “Extra Innings,” which is episode 41 overall aka ep 2 of season 3. The original Outer Limits - “ Demon with a Glass Hand" which is Season 2, Episode 5. Episode 22 from season 1 of the original Twilight Zone called, “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.”

Scarpad’s Domain

The Changeling 1980

Linda Thackeray

Not my thing... probably won't watch many of these. But hope those who like this stuff enjoy it.

Stevtrek

The Lost Boys

Michael Figueroa

I don’t watch that genre at all, hope this goes well

Phil Ken Sebben

Pandorum (2009)

James Knight

I can guarantee Triangle isn't anything like any other horror movie.

Charlie's Illiteracy

Interesting to see what actually makes you jump..in the night..bwaaahaha…💀

Badger

Hereditary is one of Josh’s favorites, so things with that vibe would be a good idea!

Josh (Target Audience)

Personally, I'd be much more excited for GoT and BSG season 2, but I'm sure this will be good too. My top recommendation would be Hereditary (2018).

Clyde Frog

Love it! Looking forward to it.

PIG

That's fantastic! I think you guys are going to get a lot of good suggestions, and I am going to add to them. ;) I definitely recommend the following movies, as I personally found them all (to one degree or another) terrifying: - Prince of Darkness (1987) - Hellraiser (1987) - A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - Sinister (2012) - The Woman in Black (2012) - Smile (2022) - Barbarian (2022) - The Fog (1980) - Suspiria (1977) - The Wicker Man (1973) Most of these are fairly popular and you might have already seen them, but I definitely think they're among the scariest movies I've seen. I also recommend all the old Hammer horror movies - the Dracula series (starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing), the Frankenstein series (starring Peter Cushing), and many more. They have a definite formula and a gothic feel that I really enjoy, and hope you guys would too.

Paul O'Neal

Hmmmmmmm. while I'm at it, for a dose of weird: Possession (1981) - Sam Neil's first big role!! The Innocents (1961) Malignant (2021)

llama

Yeah, it is a horror movie. On blu-ray it usually gets packaged with Bram Stoker's Dracula and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. You may not find it scary but tons of horror classics aren't going to scare anyone these days. Not to mention.. the three leads make it a must see imo.

James Bottas

Seconds (1966) is an interesting psychological horror film directed by John Frankenheimer.

James H

Amazing Stories is.......amazing!! :)

Echo Moon

We aren’t going to have strict criteria. We are OK with horror-adjacent stuff like Blade, Ghostbusters, Amazing Stories. All submissions are welcome unless it is in no way horror whatsoever.

Josh (Target Audience)

The only quibble I would have with your list would be wolf, do you really consider that to be horror?

harrypothead42024

I recommend that you solidify some guidelines right away because there are things that are horror-adjacent that people will try to sneak in, but they are not horror movies. Blade would be a perfect example.

harrypothead42024

Love, love, love Nightbreed!! However, it is hard to find the theatrical version that has the better ending. JC Vampires is also a really good one. :)

Echo Moon

A favorite of mine

James Bottas

30 Days of Night (2007) John Carpenter's Vampires (1998) Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) The Frighteners (1996) Cube (1997) Screamers (1995) Wolf (1994) Virus (1999) Nightbreed (1990) Society (1989) The Monster Squad (1987) Flatliners (1990) Hollow Man (2000) Species (1995)

James Bottas

Since you are also wanting suggestions for anthology eps, I highly recommend Tales from the Darkside. It's one many folks don't remember much, but it was created by George Romero in 1983 and ran for four seasons and I loved it as a kid. Here are my episode recommendations in no particular order: Trick or treat S1 Ep1 - pilot, good place to start ;) The Old Soft Shoe S2 Ep18 Family Reunion S4 Ep16 Sorry, Right Number S4 Ep9 Ursa Minor S2 Ep10 The Last Car S2 Ep19 Anniversary Dinner S1 Ep13 I Can’t Help Saying Goodbye S3 Ep2 Inside The Closet S1 Ep7 - Tom Savini directed & my personal fav episode My Ghostwriter, The Vampire S3 Ep14

Echo Moon

The Omen Trilogy The Blob Fright Night Creepshow The Fly Re-Animator Dead Alive

Michael Figueroa

Outer Limits, the 90s series. Those are pretty great.

Firekrys FWO

Ah gotcha you've already seen it, not surprising given you love horror. A movie recommendation instead, Event Horizon (1997). Pure classic fun sci-fi horror.

Paul

We both do love Haunting of Hill House, and it discussing it was actually our Halloween special last year. To answer your question we would do a mini series but we would wait until the gallery is on it’s feet and has an audience first before doing anything too time consuming

Josh (Target Audience)

One idea, I know you guys didn't want to commit to a full show series with multiple seasons, which makes sense. But how about mini-series with just one season? If you'd be down for that, I think The Haunting of Hill House is as masterpiece that you'd both love.

Paul

Love all the horror movie recommendations so far everyone! Reminder that The Horror Gallery will also heavily feature anthology TV as well! Remember to submit any episodes you’d like us to cover

Josh (Target Audience)

This reminds me it will probably be a good idea to put a list together of what we’ve seen.

Josh (Target Audience)

So looking forward to this! Got some suggestions (you may have seen some of these): Jacob's Ladder (1990) The Omen (1976) Poltergeist (1982) Misery (1990) Frailty (2001) House (1985) House 2 (1987) I am so happy you will be watching They Live. It is such a wonderful film with a great message, plus I LOVE John Carpenter films. :)

Echo Moon

I would like to make a submission for the list, an old 1960's British movie made by the master of B horror movies, Hammer Film Productions. "Quatermass and the Pit" released in 1967 and released in 1968 in the USA under the retitle "Five Million Years to Earth". It's one of the studios better movies, with a lot of famous British actors of the time, great acting, good story, good suspenseful horror that does not rely on gore, and stars Julian Glover who also has familiar roles in Star Wars and Indian Jones and the Last Crusade. I first watched this movie at a Saturday Matinee when I was 9 years old in 1970 and it scared the piss out of me.

Monty Crawford

So bad it’s good can definitely be a part of the Gallery. We are lovers of Troll 2 after all

Josh (Target Audience)

I actually haven’t (Josh)

Josh (Target Audience)

Josh (Target Audience)

Yes, The Thing (1982) is one of Alex’s favorites and we actually watched it for Patreon a couple years ago (not first time watching). It’s available in the MOVIES collection

Josh (Target Audience)

If you are looking VERY BAD horror movie then "Manos: The Hands of Fate" is probably the worst movie ever made which makes it a fun watch. (serve with generous amounts of alcohol). If you looking for a lighter TV series watch (not so serious) then duh Scooby Doo where are you? ( again the original TV series not the stupid movie) Actually I do not have any suggestion BUT I love the idea. It has been a while since I watched some old scary stuff.

Prof Moff

You've probably seen Tremors but I'll recommend it just in case you haven't.

Phillip Grischa

They Live is a very cool movie, haven't seen it in years but I remember liking it a lot.

Phillip Grischa

Not my cup of tea. Wrestling is neither. But I respect the obscure hobbies of my fellow Trekkies.

Sam Langanke

Believe it or not but I've never seen "They Live". Will be a good excuse for my first viewing. I'm assuming you guys have watched the 1982 version of "The Thing".

Monty Crawford

No. There will be an announcement when PO Box is opened.

Josh (Target Audience)

You might consider adding two William Shatner episodes of the Boris Karloff anthology series Thriller to the Horror Gallery: "The Grim Reaper" (1961) and "The Hungry Glass" (also 1961). Both episodes are available for free on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjqInY4RoSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTLBrV9MuQM

Gaius Frakking Baltar

P.O. box yet? Have some things to send to you.

thebeefmaster

Definitely need to watch The Cell. It's a mix of detective, suspense, and horror.

Justin Craig

That’s the plan! Going to check out some classics we’ve missed, but also want to dive deep into the genre! The weirder the better!

Josh (Target Audience)

I like horror movies, and I hope you'll go off the beaten path a little with this series. There have been a ton of great horror movies over the past 15 years that not everyone knows about.

Charlie's Illiteracy

The best horror movie no one has ever heard of is called "Triangle" and it starred Melissa George. It came out in 2009. Although it might appear to be about the Bermuda Triangle, it isn't at all. It's actually much more frightening, and tragic, than that.

Charlie's Illiteracy

Sounds good. Looking forward to it 👍
