C. Base line ep. Some character progression, fundamentals are there, decent finish. Nothing special though.

B for me. A good episode, but not a superb one. The interaction between Wesley and Picard is good and Wesley isn't annoying. There are some great lines from PIcard, "Oh, I envy you, Wesley Crusher... You're just at the beginning of the adventure." "Wesley... You remember - I was always proud of you"

Binty McFrazzles

Definitely a B-Tier episode. Farewell and adieu, Wesley. And then there were seven…just like TOS! 🖖😎

Raphael Gaytan

"you don't look so shipshape yourself sir" - love that line - this is A tier for me cause of the moments when Wesley has to take charge - like his character all along so farewell works too

jan

But it gets rid of Wesley, instant S-Tier! ;P

James Knight

He is the famous Starfleet grounds keeper, referred to several times…

marty63026

I think this is the second best Wesley episode, but it’s because of Picard. It reminds me of the episode where Wesley and Picard are in a shuttle and they eat sandwiches 🤣. Sort of bookends their relationship. I also live when Beverly shows up and she so concerned for Picard, she’s a good doctor but a better friend.

marty63026

I don't know why it's rated as highly as B. This is D-tier, C at best. Tasha had a better exit that respected the audience; here you can see the blatant marionette strings being pulled and you just have to grit your teeth while we "celebrate" Wesley's obvious final mission.. I really hate when shows have to make a super "important" character exit, so they get the most Mary Sue plot to themselves as possible. The overall plot made little sense, it was a bunch of fairly random nonsense for the boy genius to overcome. The guest star was terribly, insultingly-stupidly written. This episode sucked.

Ian Westcott

Agreed, so I never got the hate. I really liked him

Firekrys FWO

Not a memorable episode for me.

Jim J

Wesley was given responsibility and was treated like any other adult despite being a kid. He was listened to and allowed to participate and contribute. This is what a lot of young adults want most.

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

Not a bad Wesley episode, but not my favorite. Necessary catharsis and character wrap ups inside a forgettable plot with no deeper anything.

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

Ah, I missed that. Thanks!

Josh specifically said that to reduce the number of notifications that go out, Patron Takes would no longer send out notifications. New video content and Patron Tier lists are the weekly notifications, as well any any special content (like announcing the video lottery time)

Jeffrey

Janeway name drops him again in voyager

Patrick Smith

I'm getting e-mails for the tier lists but not for the patron takes.

Steven Linden

I know Josh said they were going to limit the notifications to certain updates. But I personally did get an email for this one.

D Jammers

So I immensely enjoyed this episode. I liked the bond the show created between the two characters and was able to empathize a lot with Wesley, in spite of however it was portrayed or written. So this is an A tier for me, as out of all the Wesley episodes, this is pretty much the highest. And I've never understood all the Wesley Haters. I liked Wesley a lot, mainly because at the time I was the same age so I empathized with him a lot.

Firekrys FWO

Question that I'm not sure where else to ask - are notifications for the patron takes not going out anymore, or is it just me?

Steven Linden

C as in C You, Wesley

JD Nevesytrof

My Favorite Martian.

tyranusfan

Please explain how that name is important in a non-spoiler way because I don't recall hearing that name before.

Collin Freeman

Have always had a soft spot for this one. The location filming is a nice change of scenery. Wil Wheaton turns out his best performance of the series. Much like Tasha Yar we get the strongest scenes and moments for the character in their farewell episode. If only they had given him more to do in previous seasons! I think this episode is a nice hint of what could’ve been: watching Wesley mature and grow into a young man and become a leader. What could have been.

Column Meanie

Boothsby name drop.

Patrick Smith

Wesley = bad, but the episode was decent. So, C

Charlie's Illiteracy

C tier. Highlight is Wheaton leaving the cast.

Phil Ken Sebben

I heard that Wheaton quit the show do to a scheduling conflict. Check Wikipedia for details

Keith S

Wheaton asked to leave the show because he didn't enjoy how Wesley was being portrayed. He eventually came to regret his decision. The episode is really good between Picard/Wesley, but other than that, largely forgettable. Still, I think the Picard/Wesley dynamic puts it into relatively solid B-tier.

John

This happens a lot in later trek, where they don't have enough time to do the final stuff so you get an ending where "and everything went off without a hitch." The show really would have benefitted from having a streaming home 30 years ago, and being allowed a full hour per episode instead of just 45 minutes.

John

Back in the day Nick Tate’s appearance was promoted as a big deal due to the cult popularity of Space:1999, but he was nothing like Alan Carter (also a pilot) so fans being what they are were disappointed.

Paul Rymer

Great scenes with Picard and Wesley - otherwise it’s decent enough.

Darren Seal

It is a send-off episode, but I don’t believe there is an actual send off at the end. It’s just assumed it went through as expected.

JP RFL

If I hadn't read Nick Tate's name in the opening credits then I never would have realised it was him as the untrustworthy captain.

Numinous2019

I actually thought Coming of Age was pretty good.

BN13

I don’t love this ep but it’s a much better send off than poor Tasha.

Sharron

A-/B+. Sad that it took Wheaton’s last episode to give Wesley something substantial and decent. Nice scenes between Patrick Stewart and Wheaton.

Collin Freeman

B-tier. It's good, but not great. No episode with Wesley at the center has ever been or will ever be great. But it's a good episode.

Darin Wagner

A bit better than just a middle-of-the-road episode, but it is skippable if I see it airing or if I'm just watching some episodes. Not bad at all, but kind of boring.

harrypothead42024

Wesley hanging out on the ship for "reasons", season after season, had definitely run its course. An ok send-off. I really can't think of any future episodes where I thought "I wish Wesley was here." ... dang. Wish I could say what I'm thinking. Did someone say "games"? Love that episode.

THE Fans

B-tier, I think it's a decent bonding episode for Wesley and Picard.
