I loved this one first time seeing it growing up, i never thought that Bev was trapped inside another dimension until Worf vanished then i was like yeah that's not normal haha, great to see the Traveller return again.

I mean I like Bev and Gates, but she's hardly an Outstanding actress, she got better as the series went on, but IMHO she's serviceble

I love that this is your favorite episode so far,
Not because this is my favorite episode, but because it once again demonstrates that your opinions and reactions are genuine.
The Star Trek landscape has always been great because of its diversity of thought.
Can’t wait for you guys to see episode 7 and 12, those are my favorite.
Keep up the good work.

Interesting all the creeper comments about the Traveler but no one comments on the way Beverly holds Wesley around the waist and it almost looks like they are going to make-out. She probably bought him a tshirt that says “my mom’s a MILF”.

Yeah, The Traveler is weird. He's supposed to be a weird. He's an unusual, mysterious alien species. "Weird" is NOT synonymous with creepy, nor is it automatically bad.

I knew that you guys were going to like this episode. It's not necessarily one of the classic fan favorites, and I've even seen several reactions where they give this episode negative reviews (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXPagZ-PDs8). But watching your guys reactions and listening to your commentary over the years, I predicted way back in Season 2 that you guys were going to enjoy this one. Coincidentally, it's also my mom's favorite episodes. While not my personal favorite from this season, it's definitely in my top 5 and one that I always enjoy watching.

Ever since I watched this show as a little girl Dr Crusher was my fav. It always frustrats me rewatching the show as an adult because the writers could have done so much with her and I feel like we never got much development. The female characters on DS9 got so much more.

Alex and Josh… as you can see so far from season four, the episodes are obviously going to be more character oriented, then plot oriented from seasons, one and two. But what you’re going to probably find is that each episode focuses on a main character. For example “this is going to be a data episode“ or “this is going to be a Picard’s episode” etc. So a lot of the time, you’re going to find that each episode usually will focus on one main character. Not every single time but a majority of them. And that’s probably what you’re going to see for the most part moving forward. That’s what sets season three and especially season four and beyond above the earlier seasons.

I love these kinds of episodes where one of the characters feels like they're going crazy. There's usually a few of them in each Trek series. They did a great job holding back on the reveal so the audience isn't ahead of the characters.
I always used to get confused about what was actually happening. I used to think it was a duplicate universe and people were getting sucked into those vortexes and the universe was "resetting" each time someone ceases to exist. Yeah the episode explains that she created the universe with her own thoughts, but I guess I just never processed how that could work as a kid.
But yeah, these eps that just mess with you psychologically are always a fun time. Great episode.

I 💗💗💗💗💗 that you guys enjoyed this one. It reminds me of when I had to negotiate the remote to watch this weekly and it just being so awesome to watch. Also, you mentioned you watched the next (and the FREAKIN CAN'T WAIT one after) but Data's explanation of friendship lives rent free in my head. 🖖

That's much better. Because that's what we think is happening. The summary I got was off of cable when I saw it airing randomly, on BBC America, I think. I've been following along on Paramount Plus (no ads; on Prime I have to deal with syncing it up again after ad breaks) and the description on there is pretty benign too. (It doesn't mention Wesley's experiment, just people disappearing.)

Yeah that's a completely different scenario.
I would say the "pedo vibe" has become a lot more pronounced in recent years, but even as a kid in the 90s, I found the guy pretty weird. I've certainly heard the pedo description for over a decade, but even if you don't go that far, he's a pretty weird guy.

I've always loved this episode but it freaked me out so much as a kid. Gates did a great job of portraying how horrified and unnerved Beverly was becoming.
Seriously imagine the horror of everyone you know slowly disappearing and then literally the whole universe eventually vanishing bit by bit and you have no idea why; such an actual nightmare, it gives me shivers

A while back I looked through all the upcoming episodes, and thought to myself, "they will hate this one, oooo they will LOVE this one." I for sure knew this would be a new favorite, since it has everything you guys love. An interesting mystery that isnt spoiled for us right away, AND it's a Crusher episode. I do have one nitpick for your memories. The first time the vortex appears is when she is in sickbay talking to the computer.

Holy shit!! After seeing how much you guys loved this episode, I feel GUILTY for giving it a B-Tier rating!! I have always loved this episode and it’s Twilight Zone-esque quality, but it just never felt important enough to me! There’s a similar premise done better in my opinion in Season 7 (you TNG fans out there know which one I’m referring to)! I rated this episode B for “Banger”, so upon reflection, an A would have been more appropriate! Glad you guys enjoyed it as much as you did! 🖖

Interesting that this is second reaction channel I've seen where they rave about Gates McFadden and Crusher. While I find her perfectly fine, she was never at the top of my list of the TNG actors. Go figure. Maybe part of it was just she doesn't any where near as much to do as the other characters, usually.

Yeah I noticed that too, Beverly asks Data how many people are on board and he says ‘114’ and Beverly says ‘now there are OVER 900 people missing. At the end when the total number of people was mentioned, they say 1014, so either way it’s a Continuity error. I’m not sure that number Quice or the traveler.

2024-09-06 10:36:49 +0000 UTC
Actually, that makes a lot of sense to me that Wesley was able to sort of create this warp bubble. He didn’t quite work, right that’s why I say sort of. In where no one has gone before, the traveler tells Picard that Wesley is like Mozart, but with science, not music. Knowing what is to come, no spoilers, it really does make sense that he could inadvertently open a warp bubble dimension. And if Beverly Hatten thought it, Wesley and Jordi would have been successful in retrieving her from the warp bubble, it was Wesley‘s lack of experience that prevented him from realizing they needed to return to Starbase in order to reconnect to the warp bubble.

This episode always did feel special to me. It's almost like it's its own thing. It's one of my favorites as well, but mainly because it's actually one of the first TNG episodes I ever saw as a kid. There are a lot of episodes that are objectively better which is why the community doesn't give it an S, but it is one of the more unique ones of the series, and it just so happened to check off everything that you like at the same time.
I think this episode will be your guy's "The Bonding" of season 4. There's going to be other episodes that you'll love, and might come pretty close, but for different reasons. This one is a pretty unique mix.

So glad you guys enjoyed this episode so much! I loved it when I was a kid, and still love it just as much now. The premise is just so creative and compelling, and it's so nice to see how smart and capable and caring Dr. Crusher is, even when she is not involved in anything medical at all. Gates McFadden really sells it with her acting as well.
I also appreciate the fact that while everyone is willing to help, at the end of the day, Beverly has to solve her own problem. No one just tells her what is going on, or brings her back, she figures it out and has to save herself, which is why the third vortex does not pull her in like the previous two. She has to choose to move on from past loss towards the people she loves, to appreciate them while she can, a sentiment Dr. Quaice advocated at the beginning of the episode. S-tier for me, all the way.

This is one of my favourite TNG episodes; and both the reaction and discussion here did it more than justice. Even the segmented structure worked a lot better here than in the season's early episodes. The high regard for this episode bodes well for quite a few ones to come on TNG as well as DS9 and Voyager.

The brief synopsis of this episode ruins the whole mystery (it tells you that it's Crusher who is trapped in another reality and the crew has to figure out a way to get her out, which you don't find out until 30 minutes into the episode), so it's a good thing you don't read those.

Ah the ultimate Beverly Episode and one of my faves of the season, I’m a bit ambivalent on the resolution but the journey to it is superb

This is a great episode, to be sure. Star Trek as a whole doesn't do many of those episodes where you get that Twilight Zone vibe, but this one, and some upcoming ones do touch that sensation.
There's some more excellent episodes coming up here really soon.

Thing is everyone going to have their favorites. It's a Twight Zone type of episode. The Twight Zone is the greatest show of all time. Why? name another show that has guest main characters for every episode. The stories the acting everything about it. You want to learn how to curse without cursing watch Uncle Simon and the adjectives they throw at each other. I'm done.

I gotta say, I don't like this episode. The setup and the dilemma is interesting, but in my view the resolution is garbage. The solution to the problem is that Wesley must use his Jedi mind powers? WTF? That's not a Star Trek sfory. That's magic. To me, everything after the point that it was revealed that it was really Beverly who disappeared is boring AF.

The large windows you see behind the bridge in the intro are the ones in the conference room.

This is the perfect bottle episode. Or should I say "bubble" episode. And it uses all of the strengths of Star Trek. It's actually a sci-fi premise, but also kind of a horror premise. And it leverages the connections that we've made with all of the characters so far to generate tension.

Love this episode! Gates McFadden's performance is wonderful - love episodes that have Dr. Beverly as the focus. The Traveler is pretty silly but I suppose they wanted to have a bigger punch to the resolution than just Geordi+Wesley making a vortex/portal to rescue her.

Glad you loved it, although I'm a bit surprised at how much. Do you think you would have loved it as much if Beverly hadn't been the focus?

53:00 Yes, by the time they re-reveal the real ship, it's already really obvious that something is very wrong with Beverly's perspective. It wasn't "ruined" too soon.

Even though it’s one of the punchlines of the episode, Beverly and Picard traveling the galaxy alone in the flagship of the federation is a spinoff I wouldn’t mind seeing. And goes without saying, Gates NAILS IT!

Stunned and delighted by Josh's reaction!! One of my favs from S4. Some fun trivia, Eric Menyuk (the traveller) made the shortlist of actors to play Data, before Brent Spiner was eventually cast. Also, Gates McFadden was visiibly pregenant at the time this was being recorded. Many scenes show her with her flowy blue doctor's jacket to hide the bump!

8:08 I never noticed that when Worf inquires to the computer where Dr. Quaice is, the computer doesn't give the error sound like it did for Beverly.

I normally don't care about "Drama", but these little one-offs you guys are doing before the episode number comes up are...for me...syncing up the tone perfectly. I suggest sticking to this format, as it's "intro", it's quick, it's usually funny/amusing/interesting/WTF are you doing, and it's a nice ice-breaker for new viewers. No, don't look at the cam--
