No, I exclusively carry gold coins now.

Do you still trust you home computer to access your bank account even when you know how many people have been hacked? You have to make sure you are patched and keep moving on with life.

Jim

It's an A for me, though I would bump it up to an S if the B storyline was cut from the show. Doesn't add much and most of the scenes surrounding it fairly weak.

LMPGames

I brought that up in my Patron Take .... who takes a sabbatical and dumps their kids on a deep space starship that faces destruction every other week? I thought the point of a sabbatical was to get away from work and spend more time with family, etc.

JGoss

I always found it difficult to believe that Starfleet wouldn’t have a major issue with Data after he essentially mutinied, abandoned his post, and sabotaged the Enterprise. I’m aware that he was not in control of his faculties but how many more times is he going to be hacked in such a way ?

Just another Red Shirt

The worst part of the kid plot is them staying on the enterprise while their parents went on “sabbatical” 😂 “Your kids got blasted out an airlock during a Romulan attack..How was your vacation?”

Glenn Johnson Barnes

I agree with you. This episode never lives up to its potential.

Numinous2019

Yeah, the kid plot is not great. I don't care about those two kids' problems (no one does), and it really feels shoved in there -- you KNOW it's there for the sole reason of giving a ticking clock to force the crew to get control of the ship back.

Ian Westcott

Solid A, almost S, but the kid framing plot is the only knock I have. We get to see something new and unique happen on the ship (blue alert, journey to the transporter), and again another top notch Ron Jones score.

JGoss

In a void, S tier. Coming up against experiencing Family just before, A tier.

Paul

(THE) LOREEEEEE!

Julian Predel

The entire first act with Data commandeering the Enterprise is perfection - outwitting every move by the crew. The whole thing carried by a brilliant score. I love the interaction with the computer throughout, "Computer: recognise Jean Luc Picard, Alpha Two priority, and re-establish separation procedure immediately", "Orders regarding command functions are no longer accepted from your present location". I used to dream of being able to talk to a computer like that.

Gavin Scott

I love the little family theme the beginning of this season is running with. Like Data needed an entire episode devoted to him rather than cramming his stuff into the previous episodes.

Deep Red

I feel like this is a good use of the B-story... to give us another view of what our main character brothers (Data and Lore) might be "feeling." In a good script the two stories explore different perspectives of the main theme and/or give the viewer a better understanding of the main plot. TNG writers do this better in these later seasons than in the first two seasons, where they were more like two individual stories running simultaneously.

Stevtrek

My brother and I had an entire VHS library of recorded TNG episodes. Man, the 90s were a great time to be a kid. We would record the TNG marathons that were shown on weekends once or twice a year. Nothing much makes me so excited, even to this day.

Justin B

A memorable, just a small bit of S tier. Just outside of top 10 Tng of all time and that list is stacked. Maybe 17th place or so.

Brandon Bennett

It's not going to be much of a contest for me, as in my opinion I'd say 2/3rd of S4 is A-tier. Couple are B-tier, maybe one or two C-tier, but I've always preferred S4-5 as my favorites.

Firekrys FWO

If the whole episode was Spiner, it would be S-Tier.

Nerd's Gold

B-tier for me. It's a good, solid episode; I'm just not entirely sold on it.

John

There was a time when I watched TNG constantly, but watched specific episodes much more than others... this one always was a favorite. Especially because I started recording TNG on VHS at the beginning of this season.

THE Fans

An almost perfect episode IMO. A great performance by Brent Spiner.

Andrew Buel

I like this episode and the music is also really unique and good.

GalacticGod

You should keep E tier as F tier. I'm a little bit attached to the letter E and hate to see it tarnished...

Evan Guthrie

It's EPIC!

Daniel Garrett

Agreed

Chris S.

B. It's OK. Another episode with rough, uneven writing and competing plotlines with unearned, just-so progressions.

J Potter

I’ve always thought this one was more than the sum of its parts. And I think it turned me gay.

Smear Campaign

It's my belief that the "S"es should be declared very sparingly.

Jovet

Very solid season.

JP RFL

This was a great episode. Almost an S, but I think the “S” episodes are reserved for the top 10 or 20 episodes of the series. Thats why I revisited BOBW and gave it an S, because it has the largest impact for Picard over the entire series (overall). Anyway, not sure what would have given it an S, because sometimes you cant put your finger on it. Its just missing that “something”. Maybe it didn’t make me cry, regardless of what happened for some reason, or some “Oh my God!” Moment. That could have been it.

Chris S.

Hahaha!

Chris S.

Often Wrong Soong, I believe it was.

Thomas Cole

A tier for me given that this is probably my favourite season of Trek. So much to enjoy coming up, I’m on my umpteenth rewatch and it’s hard to resist going forward ahead of your pace.

Paul Rymer

I think all three lead actors on the planet do a phenomenal job, but especially the guy who plays old Dr. Soong. (Or “wrong Soong” as we affectionately know him).
