I'm sorry, it's definitely Deanna for me. I hated her character season 1 & most of season 2. She grows on me in S3. Worf & Data were both badasses S1 & S2 so it's pretty hard for them to show momentous "growth" since I already loved them and will continue to love them through every season/show going forward. They are top-tier characters already. Two of my favorite characters period. Geordi is fine... Wesley... remains meh for me.

2024-08-13 10:25:59 +0000 UTCI have to give my honorable mention as a duality to Geordie and Wesley. Both of them had a slow burn of character development whereas Worf was right in your face all the time and Worf was the most significantly developed character of the season.

2024-08-12 19:08:59 +0000 UTCAgreed. I think by giving us more of his background, we were able to understand why Worf was so stoic and honorable. At times, it could seem over the top, but episodes like Sins of the Father make you realize that Worf takes his culture’s teachings to heart, and he is in fact, the best Klingon a Klingon can be.

2024-08-12 16:54:24 +0000 UTCThis is the season where they finally converted over to character-driven storytelling, so naturally all the characters got much better development. It’s night and day compared to season 1.

2024-08-12 15:56:38 +0000 UTCI feel like this was the breakout season for almost everyone. They finally figured out how to use Deanna without her just being an emotional wreck like she was in Encounter at Farpoint. Wesley is finally growing up, Geordi actually got some from that one girl, Worf became a standout character with all the Klingon lore, Data became a father and inches closer to humanity every day, Crusher came back (yay!) and even got to be shooting phasers on away missions. This is the season when TNG started to become the great show we know it as, so honorable mention needs to go to the writers and producers for best improvement from one season to another.

2024-08-12 15:41:48 +0000 UTCThe thing about Wesley season 3 that I didn't appreciate until seeing some of SFDebris' commentary is that season 3 basically saves the character and this goes some ways towards the overall revitalization of the entire series. The season premiere, Evolution, serves as a critique of Wesley's character in S1 and S2. Dr. Stubbs represents what Wesley would become on his current path and it's no mistake that the episode makes them the two big players. The episode has Wesley finally screw up and having this happen while highlighting Stubbs' own flaws all while he tries to push Wesley along this path of a kind of hubris. The title "Evolution" is intended to refer, not just to Wesley's nanobots, but more importantly to Wesley's OWN personal evolution. It's very noteworthy that for the very first episode of a season that makes so many improvements and fixes on the series they chose Wesley as the very first thing that needed to be fixed. In the end Wesley chooses the path of humility and in subtle ways the rest of the season continues Wesley's "redemption" from the insufferable Mary-Sue character he's parodied as to something much better. For instance, making Wesley a full ensign in a normal uniform is a way of saying that he isn't some special prodigy, some boy wonder who is so special that he gets to be one of the 8 top people on the ship without even being a real officer. When he saves the day in Menage a Trois, he does have this breakthrough nobody else did, evocative of S1/2, BUT he also in doing this makes a subtle act of humility, sacrificing his own future to help other people. Whereas S1/2 Wesley goes out of his way to try to be a part of Starfleet when he technically doesn't belong yet, this Wesley makes a choice that he thinks is throwing away the chance to be part of Starfleet. Worf is the other choice people might make, and I understand why. His character development in S3 is important and really has very lasting impacts on the rest of the franchise in terms of Worf and Klingons overall. Wesley's change is definitely the most substantial and the greatest, though.

2024-08-12 15:32:11 +0000 UTCI completely disliked Michael Dorn’s portrayal of Worf in Season 1. Probably most of Season 2. Probably, some of that came from the various directors. But as the series progressed, there was nuance and gravitas to his performance. His development is much more pronounced than Data… but that’s mostly because Data (and Spiner) started in a better place.

2024-08-12 15:31:33 +0000 UTCHonestly, lets not forget about Picard too. Granted, he hasn’t hit the ceiling yet, but I feel like we finally “know him” as Captain, and as a person.

2024-08-12 15:05:18 +0000 UTCWorf will win this but I’ve voted for Deanna Troi as her character has developed significantly since season 1. It’s been more slow and steady so far unlike Worf.

2024-08-12 15:04:05 +0000 UTCHonorable mention for Picard. It started with measure of a man in S2, but multiple episodes like sins of the father, booby trap, and yes, even captain’s holiday really expanded on the depth of his character and his appreciation for his crew.

2024-08-12 15:04:01 +0000 UTCPersonally I feel this is worf even if it is only based on a few episodes and mainly sins of the father but THE LORE!! that one episode brings up and possibilities it opens for the future regarding any worf storyline is why he wins for me
