TNG S3 AWARDS - TA Perspective Award

Which episode did TA most change your perspective or show you a perspective you hadn’t thought of before?

The winner will be one of the 5 nominees, but put your honorable mentions in the comments!

Comments

Transformers: Animated. The art style is a little off-putting for some people, but if you can get past that it's a solid show. Lots of meta jokes for G1 fans.

Jeffrey P

What does TA stand for? Thanks All? The A**hole?

Roy J.

No movements in 35 years? My grandpa had that problem, try plenty of fluids and adding more fiber to your diet, works wonders!

Vontux

A Matter of Perspective to me was a completely forgettable episode...but I appreciate it more now.

Aaron Wells

None. I have had my opinions for 35 years. I enjoy watching yours but mine hasn't changed.

Mark Wood

I chose matter of perspective. I have seen so many versions of the groundhog Day plot in my life. I didn’t give it much Creedence at the time yet watching it now I see it differently and with more complexity. The episode you most altered. My opinion on was the survivors, I thought the pacing was slow. I didn’t particularly like the wife of Kevin Oxbridge that much watching it now I see some of the performance she had is being limited by Kevin‘s perspective yet still reinforced by the spirit and character of her will in personality. And it was an episode that had initially given me Borg vibes, and I was extremely disappointed in the absence of Borg

Thicketdweller

Genuinely I forgot about the Bonding. And when I rewatched it with you guys, I was like, "Wait, this is way better than I remember."

Deep Red

When I was younger, The Bonding didn't really make an impression on me at all, but as an adult who can personally relate to Jeremy Aster's experience, it resonates more with me now. Moreover, the fact that you guys liked it so much also really raised it in my estimation. It used to be an episode I didn't rewatch that much, but your fresh eyes reminded me of all the good little character moments sprinkled throughout and how much of a turning point this episode was for the show. Also, I got to see the deleted scenes that I didn't even know existed because of you guys, so thanks!

None of your reactions for these changed my opinion or brought anything new to light for me... but I've seen most of these episodes more than a dozen times (favorites more than 20). This is not meant a criticism of your reactions. I enjoy them for the most part. I simply have very well-formed opinions about the episodes. The idea that Riker made the "safe choice" at the end of Best of Both Worlds is probably the most new idea I've heard of any for the third season. I never thought of it that way.

Stevtrek

I'm in the minority of already agreeing with you on "The Bonding". But you reminded me how much I originally liked "Matter of Persepective", even though watching the same sequence play out 4 times gets really annoying after several re-watches...!

Dan Halstead

The Bonding. I never liked it much before, not sure why, watching it with both of you wildly shifted what I could take away from it. Which is indeed great. I like the characters on the show, of course, but usually I care more about "the plot", so rewatching the show with two people who are inverse, you care about the plot but more about great character moments and stories, it becomes much more than a rewatch because of that. You could say, it's a matter of perspective.

Paul

The Offspring. Ever since my Dad died, it's hit me harder each time

Firekrys FWO

I was always bored by The Bonding until your reaction to it. While it’s still not my favorite, I might bump it up a place or two if I were to rank all the eps this season. Tin Man is still towards the bottom though.

Brian Moore

its the only one above i didnt like but like it now slightly slightly more

Narnman

Sorry, guys. I really tried, even after your reactions. But I hated The Bonding when it first aired. And I still hate it today. I can appreciate the story…but that’s about it.

Raphael Gaytan

The Bonding. Through your reaction I had a greater appreciation for the emotions of the episode.

Dru Blood

For me it was Tinman, I’ve seen it plenty of times but never really gave much though to Tam having to listen to all those thoughts non stop every hour of every day and how it would drive you crazy.

Jasonn Pellegrini

Going with the Bonding, because if I hadn't watched it, I would still think it was a different episode.

John

I was surprised at the reaction to "The Most Toys". I've always liked that episode. The guys did make some valid changes that could have resulted in improving the ep, but it was already a good one in my mind. Of course, any episode can be improved with the benefit of hindsight. I'd bet that everyone involved in making show/movie can point out a million things they'd do differently if they had another chance after their work was released.

Jason Nichols

The Bonding always was and always will be in ny top 3 for the while series. But you guys gave me a whole new perspective on "A Matter of Perspective" which I had always perceived as kinda hokey. It was a lot better than I remembered.

Daniel Garrett

None. Not why I watch kids—er, YT reactors, react to works I know very, very well. Now ... if when you get to Deep Space Nine you love it and somehow intrigue me to giving a rip about it after all these years, that'd be something! :D

J Potter

I already really liked The Bonding and Matter of Perspective, but they gave me a new appreciation for Allegiance.

BN13

"A Matter of Perspective" for sure. The holodeck has been around so long I forget what a novel idea it was to structure an episode around for solving a mystery. I'm curious if that one will age well for you, especially towards the end of the Berman era of Trek.

EnigmaticPenguin

Honorable mention to Captain's Holiday. I never expected you to hate it. I've always liked it just fine and I had never considered that perspective on it before.

Forbidden Donut

Honorable mention: "A Matter of Perspective."

dkenobi

I generally considered The Most Toys to be borderline great but after a rewatch and the guys’ review it definitely dropped a notch for me

Carl Williams

The Survivors

Collin Freeman

Menage a Troi. I didn't think it was possible to hate it any more but by rewatching it it slithered right under that limbo pole.

Lincynity

Went with the Bonding due to the extended version (which I hadn't seen).

THE LORE!!!
