Ah, I did not know that. Thanks.

Of course Data is so honest. "I must try to escape then "

Josh Turner

I feel you did need the planet scene. Their only evidence that Data was taken was that he skipped a monotonous radio call out that Geordi said ANY human pilot would have skipped. So I feel they needed the extra "clue" to his motivation. Also, the fact that Data fired the phaser is a little glimpse into the plot of most AI movies. The robots are supposed to protect humans. But humans kill other humans, so the way to protect humans is to kill the humans. Faja basically said "you won't kill me, but if you don't, I'll just keep trying until I'm dead, but you can't kill me".

Josh Turner

I always found it strange how strongly Worf tries to cling to "that's how Klingons do it". He lived on Earth since he's like 8yrs old. He's may have read all these things, but he's never experienced them.

Josh Turner

I like the scene with Worf and Crusher on the planet. I liked seeing Worf doing Data's job and doing a pretty decent job too!

Groovybaboon

I found it pretty easy. The guys should watch it and comment on it.

Philbot

I was trying to watch this on my tv, but I couldn’t find it on YouTube yet?

Philbot

I am looking for Rappaport's footage on YouTube. Anyone know were I shoukd look?

Hunter

I love Saul Rubinek in this episode, later playing a recurring role on Frasier. Josh doesn’t like his performance? Kiss my pasty, shiny white… Android skin. Well, I didn’t like your performance… err, reacting, then. Yeah, there you go. Yeah. Yeah. That’s right. Uh, yeah.

Bagofsoup

you guys should check out some of the original scenes filmed with David Rappaport as Kivas Fajo, they had to do some last minute re-casting

Benjamin Eide

The “Overacting” award on the Rewatchables podcast is named after Saul Rubinek, who played Kivas. He was a pretty big booking for the show, had big roles in True Romance, Unforgiven and Nixon not long after this.

John McDonald

David Rappaport was cast as Kivas Fajo and had shot several of his scenes when he attempted suicide and had to be replaced. Saul Rubinek came in with no prep and they had to reshoot all the Kivas scenes. It isn't his best work, but understandable given the circumstances. That also may have forced the director to pad the enterprise stuff to fill in gaps with the data story line that they didn't have time to shoot.

John Pierce

Knew they wouldn't like the crew not knowing, but if the crew DID know right away they would have found the guy and the episode would have been done in 30 minutes. I think they have the right idea of it being an average to good episode that could have been better. The episode won't work for you if you don't like seeing the crew being outwitted by a guest character.

Andrew Buel

I know this doesn’t have to do with the episode, but RDJ is Dr. Doom!!! Mind Blown!!!

Eric Bundy

You guys are right on the money with your summary reaction. I'm really ambivalent about this episode. It had its great moments with Data and a couple with Worf, but the rest of the crew not so much.

Ron Hubbard Jr

Ya know guys, it’s possible to program the safe to only accept password entries at a certain rate of speed so Data’s abilities are negated. Keep stuff like that in mind in future so you’re not shooting holes in every plot line. Thanks!

Rob

Thanks for committing this. I was just getting ready to.

Jennifer Peters

Data can have secrets, doesn't have to tell everyone everything in excruciating detail.

Jovet

Alex and Josh Starfleet commentators "Let me talk to ya!" Kivas Fajo... Stealing Data? Nah Nah. Let me put it like this.. Brent Spiner is a MegaStar, Yyyeah! Appreciate you guys!

Gordon Freeman

I'll leave it to the others to fill you in about the original actor who played Fajo. The "perhaps something happened" line is a nice sign to us, Riker and O'Brien that Data is growing closer, if only slightly, to being human.

Paul D

ROTFL!!

Jovet

For the record: David Rappaport did NOT end his life during the filming of this episode. He did try, though, and the producers wisely chose to replace him. He was successful later, just before this episode actually aired but after its production was over with.

Jovet

Geez, that is so sad, I had no idea too.

RoyRoyRoy

If it makes you guys feel better, I had a coworker who had the exact personality and vibe of Kivas Fajo -- true and total pain

RoyRoyRoy

Gotta have the not so good to appreciate the awesome. This one is in the middle for me. I enjoy it but it's not one I immidately go to for a re-watch. Thanks as always for doing what y'all do

Dru Blood

Worf and Troi baby would be a menace. Warrior that can feel the enemies fear.

Brandon Bennett

Data pulling the trigger on a evil slave master, he is on his John Brown arc.

Fishing Trip

Huh star trek trivia I didn't know. Cool

Fishing Trip

I'd love it if you checked out and compared the original Kivas Fajo actor (David Rappaport) performance with Brent Spiner's friend who stepped in after Rappaport killed himself. He never finished the episode so they recast Kivas Fajo and reshot. It's on YouTube and people have edited them into side by side comparisons.

Leyton Jay

First! Brilliant, already watched the uncut reaction and loved it, but its always nice to see what parts made your shorter cut. It really condenses the experience into something memorable.
