*UPDATED* Here are some tips if you want your take to be read in the video:
- NEW here? Put that in your take! We love introducing new Patrons to the community through reading their first take!
- Keep it brief! If it takes more than 10 seconds to read aloud, we will probably skip it regardless of the content.
- Be unique! If your take is about the same thing as several others, you’re limiting your chances.
- Ask a question! Putting your take in the form of a question makes it easier for us to engage with it and more likely to be read.
- Have fun with it! We want to include takes that make us or our audience laugh and have a good time!

The two authors were GR’s assistant and her spouse. I’m assuming the affair was past tense at this point, but don’t really know for sure.

2024-07-20 02:25:23 +0000 UTCPretty weak episode with one silver lining. It's the first real dive into Ferengi culture and I found that interesting.

2024-07-19 21:17:57 +0000 UTCDid they actually establish they hook up sometimes? I thought it was pretty established they're mutual friends and good with where they are.

2024-07-19 20:47:15 +0000 UTCThis appears to be a divisive one. I enjoyed it, but I liked Captain's Holiday. I felt with that one, the guys took it straight when it was meant to be heavily camp, and sort of interpreted it from the wrong perspective. I mean, you could still recognize it as camp and not like it, but if you don't get that, it would be a bit like looking at the 60's Batman and thinking "this is terrible" not getting its supposed to be campy. Of course in that case it was many people's first introduction to the character and many kids liked it as a straight show and notoriously were surprised by how "dark" the Burton movies were. Anyway, my guess is they won't like it as I don't think they dig intentionally campy star trek. It is interesting how much this is a product of it's times, the idea of playing Lwaxana as having to pretend to be into this Ferengi she's disgusted by for laughs isn't something that would be done today. For that reason, it's interesting to notice how some of the scenes feel "ouch, people are going to be pissed about this" but people weren't at the time, as far as I know. it's definitely a tonal 180 from the previous episode, and personally I like how TNG could do all different kind of episodes. TOS had a few "humor" episodes but always had to be "adventure'" stories. As a kid I loved TNG but had a hard time getting into TOS, now I have seen TNG so many times I sometimes find it a little slow paced and find TOS more consistently exciting. But yeah, my guess is they're going to absolutely hate this, it has a lot of elements they don't like.

2024-07-19 20:37:11 +0000 UTCnever heard about that. Its trashy, but who was the assistant? Surprised Roddenberry was having an affair at this point in his life, as people say he was clearly suffering from some sort of dementia.

2024-07-19 20:35:33 +0000 UTCThis is probably One of the worst episodes in all the Star Trek.

2024-07-18 22:06:44 +0000 UTCIt was not a bad episode, but it was a letdown from the previous one. Still, the "best" is yet to come!

2024-07-18 20:00:34 +0000 UTCLove Lwaxana or hate her - there seems nothing in between. Except for one thing: You love to hate her. Im my case she reminds me heavily of a high school teacher I had back in the days of the first airing. She was Bulgarian and taught French and Italian. I really did like the languages but God did I find her annoying and ridiculous. She also was middle aged and oversexed. Above all she treated us teenagers like little children. As Lwaxana does with Deanna.

2024-07-18 11:35:11 +0000 UTCThis is actually one of my favorite episodes. Funny throughout, with good Riker/Troi moments, and a hilarious climax. I bet you hated it.

2024-07-18 06:40:02 +0000 UTCI’m sure you guys will call it “their weird open relationship” again, and maybe it’s just the polyamorous in me, but I’ve always found Deanna and Riker to be the level of mature and intelligent about their relationship that I would hope to see humans achieve someday. They each do their own thing, and that’s ok. And they come together whenever the time feels right. More mature than I’ve ever seen…well, almost anyone.

2024-07-18 02:36:10 +0000 UTCThis is one of those episodes I skip every single time. Awful episode. Even worse than Captain's Holiday.

2024-07-18 01:50:22 +0000 UTCThis is a fun one and gets you a Lwaxana episode with a side of Wesley.

2024-07-18 01:30:04 +0000 UTCThat last shot with the whole cast on the bridge... when I think of TNG, that's THE image in my head. That crew, those uniforms, that music. If it could've lasted forever I'd have been good with it.

2024-07-18 00:35:26 +0000 UTCLove Picard’s act at the end, when he plays the jealous lover for Lwaxana. This one is a nice change of pace, where she isn't coming on board and causing trouble, it's more of an adventure involving her.

2024-07-18 00:32:26 +0000 UTCThis is an episode that certainly exists.

2024-07-18 00:30:23 +0000 UTC100%. Lwaxana has gone from my least favorite character on a first watch to among my most favorites. She's direct, abrasive, and often just floats above the plot with her own objectives.
#MaxwellDidNothingWrong
2024-07-17 23:44:54 +0000 UTCWesley's character gets a bad rap, but this episode show cases him as a 'gifted' child more believably. Not as an uber-genius, but simply by noticing a pattern that no one else did. I think season 3 did a much better job of writing him sympathetically, but is it enough to overcome how the first two seasons portrayed him?
#MaxwellDidNothingWrong
2024-07-17 23:40:30 +0000 UTCOverall this is a fun episode, but it's not without it's problems. For one thing, I really can't stand how Lwaxanna treats Deanna in this episode. She's in full blown narcissist mom mode, and the plot has nothing to do with this at all, so why is that in here? I wish the episode ended with some sort of resolution there where something plot related made Lwaxanna finally respect Deanna's autonomy.

2024-07-17 23:07:32 +0000 UTCLiking or hating this episode is dependent on if you love or hate two things Lwaxana and Ferengi. I have grown to adore both in my middle age. So I like it it's a nice light hearted breather of an episode strategically placed after the heavy Sarek episode.

2024-07-17 22:57:04 +0000 UTCOnly nice thing I can say about this episode is that it introduces Oomox and the final scene almost makes it all worth it. A lot of this episode is a serious slog

2024-07-17 22:30:13 +0000 UTCI dislike almost every Lwaxana episode. She's insufferable. This episode is one of only two that I like. It's a fun romp with some laughs and endearing moments with Wesley. After this, you'll be even more confused about the Riker/Troi relationship. It's a solid B-Tier for me.

2024-07-17 22:21:13 +0000 UTCGreat fun, we get to see Betazed at last - which looks suspiciously like a botanic garden in San Marino.

2024-07-17 22:20:57 +0000 UTCThis is an episode I have seen maybe twice. No more than that. Generally speaking, unless I remember the episode fondly, TNG era Ferengi are bad. Lwaxana Troi is bad. Seeing both of them in the episode description is skip, skip, skip. But I do know I've seen this episode at least once, and possibly a second time. There are some amusing parts, but... I think this is gonna be a bit of a disappointment on the heels of the magnificent previous episode. Patrick Stewart doing Shakespeare is always worth the price of admission though. I could watch that scene any time.
John
2024-07-17 22:19:54 +0000 UTCOh this is an odd one - any pretence that the Ferengi are a credible threat is well and truly buried by now. Most of this is annoying but some of it charming but not many shows would do a tour de force for Patrick Stewart in Sarek and then switch to an OTT Shakespeare reading in this one. The Wesley stuff could have been cheesy but it’s so endearing it’s my fave scene of the episode. He looks so much better in uniform.
Darren Seal
2024-07-17 22:15:31 +0000 UTCRegardless of what you think of the rest of the episode, it's worth it for the Shakespeare scene at the end. Patrick Stewart must've loved it!

Mike Rogers
2024-07-17 22:05:28 +0000 UTCAn interesting episode in that it's largely just fine, Picard's EXCELLENT use of Shakespeare non-withstanding, that would be totally skippable if not for Wesley getting his uniform. But I also think it's a decent Lwaxana episode.
Nolan
2024-07-17 22:04:02 +0000 UTCI enjoy SHADES OF GRAY more than this episode. It's as if the writers took all the worst elements from 10 different episodes and said, "Let's put them all into one." Then they agreed, "It's definitely NOT Shakespeare." So, they added some Shakespeare.
THE Fans
2024-07-17 22:01:40 +0000 UTCAccording to Ronald D Moore, Gene Roddenberry rewrote the picnic scene to include Lwaxana pulling a large phallic fruit, complete with engorged veins, out of her basket and trying to get Riker to eat it. Mercifully, it got changed to the leafy thing seen in the episode, but her line about "sap running through the veins" is still there.
THE LORE!!!
2024-07-17 22:00:18 +0000 UTCI like how in the final scene, Picard starts off with reluctant bad acting because he is trying to keep his distance from Lwaxana and then starts having fun with it once he realizes he is actually trolling the Ferengi hard.
Chris Mickelson
2024-07-17 22:00:09 +0000 UTCHonestly, Trek can sometimes be bad, but it can also be outright embarrassing.
Alan Thompson
2024-07-17 21:59:50 +0000 UTCMy favorite part of this episode is Wesley‘s promotion. The red uniform just makes him seem much more part of the crew than he ever did before. He’s not just some kid now. When Picard annunciates “Ensign Crusher” it really drives home that fact. Fun trivia: Gene Roddenberry presented Wil Wheaton with his lieutenant bars from his service in World War II during the making of this episode.
Column Meanie
2024-07-17 21:54:00 +0000 UTCThe Roddenberry is strong in this one! Apart from more believable and less stupid chemistry between Troi and Riker, this could be first season. Weasel saves the day again, but gets a uniform, a real improvement. Seriously, written by Roddenberry’s personal assistant (with whom he had an affair) and her husband, starring Roddenberry’s wife, and with the title Ménage à Troi? Good grief!

2024-07-17 21:50:00 +0000 UTCHeroic Lwaxana, conniving Ferengi, overacting Patrick Stewart, Ron Jones score, what more does anyone want?

2024-07-17 21:47:43 +0000 UTCThis one is one of the few of season 3 that I skip regularly. Really the only redemption is Pat Stew getting in some Shakespeare. What do you guys think of the Ferengi as an antagonist species after this episode? Personally for me this moved them solidly into ‘not serious threats’ territory, maybe slightly above the Pakleds
Matthew Riley
2024-07-17 21:47:41 +0000 UTCThis is one of my favorite episodes. Majel Barrett really gets to have fun as Lwaxana, and Patrick Stewart at the end just NAILS it.
