I just want to say that you absolutely made my day when you said the grief you had with so much yuri is that it's too close to the Cute Girls Doing Cute Things category and I'm like THIS IS WHAT I KEEP SAYING oops hit enter too soon BUT LIKE FOR REAL, its not that i have anything against wholesome romances as a whole and I even like some of them (like Shirayuki x anyone, but especially Obi), but I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't a little bit more drawn to relationships where there's some fucked up shit going on. LET GIRLS COMMIT CRIMES. I didn't even like Citrus that much when I read it once upon a time because I was just so annoyed by the cast, but I would rather watch/read it ANY day than most of the yuri that makes it to the anime sphere because oh my god. at least these girls are committing crimes. I support womens' wrongs etc etc. if there was a yuri version of Super Lovers i would eat that shit the hell up in a heartbeat

I think it's wonderful and In my opinion there is not another anime out there like it and for its time, the thought of having gender roles being messed around with, because it was the '90s lol, like that was a big deal. Yes it has tropes but I honestly don't know what creator you're talking about, and also I think that it's like a classic in the way that evangelion is and I feel like utena gets a lot of extra hate because of the fact that it's two women. Like I feel like if it was a man instead of a woman, AKA utena was a man, that more people would know about it number one and number two realize that a lot of anime today takes from utena. And then also utena takes from sailor Moon which you'll see in the opening if you watch it, and then I don't know In the realm of things that are controversial, I don't understand how utena is different from any normal anime. Now it is goofy as hell at the end but! It's you know... My partner, who is Gen X, said that that's some zoomer concern lmao. He's not gonna assemble though (funky frog bait did a video on that lol). He said that it captures the dichotomy of feminism and being oppressed and also fighting for liberation. It's very metaphorical and surreal. I mean if you watch it up to the end where there's this surprise they'll go oh that's what that one chick was talking about, then you'll understand that you have to take that all metaphorically and I literally can't say anything because it's so... It's so random. My partner also said that if you watch it, there's so much content to comment on and there's like a bazillion things to talk about and there is. I've seen clips and I've seen the clips of the ending and omg wtf lmao. There's also a movie and a series. Okay I'm done with my persuasive essay lmao Also yeah I know that it's not performative and it's really appreciated because I don't know of any commentators or YouTubers that put up those resources to help people in the capacity that you do and, in the realm of content creators and YouTubers, that is one thing that like you take number one spot on and I sincerely respect about you. 2024-10-09 16:04:11 +0000 UTCforreal, it's a somewhat fascinating "culture shock" even when its coming FROM guys in the west but i think even that is highlighting WHY exactly some male yuri fans are seeking it out since the objectifying lesbian approach is something associated with toxic masculinity and men confident in their masculinity (to the detriment of the world around them LMAO) who view the world as their oyster and are "playing the game the right way" which SOME of these male yuri fans very much are not and they want to escape from the overall pressures and environments that those behaviors would occur in. Its just so FASCINATING like i totally went into this video intending to shit on himedanshi but i came out of it like "damn im sorry yall feel this way" XD. I can also agree that my general disinterest in yuri stems largely from popular character design choices, Im overall a very aesthetic influenced consumer so while im open to mostly everything at this point anime-wise (besides maybe horror, just dont care for it), it could check all the boxes of tropes i like for all i know but i dont CARE if it doesnt suit my aesthetic tastes LMAO. From what has been highlighted to me it seems that theres a lot of yuri that isnt roly poly girls but the anime adaptations seem to favor stories with those art styles as of late (and thats before taking into account how ROUND most anime has become in general artistically). Coming from the western culture and having guys always trying to pressure two straight females to make out for them to watch, the bait seems like an odd thing for the male viewers to get upset about. I'm pansexual and do enjoy BL and I'm not against watching or reading any Yuri content but I do wonder if your point of how the characters look have had something to do with it not seeming to peak my interest.. maybe I should look into Yuri more for "research" purposes. Anyway your video was entertaining to watch as always! Also not sure if it's the time of day you were filming but whenever the lighting is like that your eyes look so pretty! And all those name were cracking me up but I think I liked Jen De Envy the best. Thanks for the video!
