Jeff, That makes sense.

The writer of this episode, Melinda Snodgrass, once commented about this episode, "I wanted to take Data one step further in his development as a Human being. I wanted to stress him and have him face a situation where logic isn't enough, to show that in order to command you have to have charisma. You have to learn how to wave your dick and hope your dick is bigger than the other guy's."

Apparently, the producers were not happy with the voice performance of the actor playing Goshaven and had all his lines redubbed by another actor. The actor was so pissed off, he insisted the pull his name from the guest credits.

Yeah, season premieres weren't big events back in the day. You didn't necessarily want to waste a strong episode there in case the audience wasn't aware that the new season had begun.

There's water falling in the background. It absolutely has to be ADR.

Thanks for the reaction my dudes. One of my favorite episodes of season 2, looking forward to your discussion. 👍

You know, there is another famous voice-swapping that happened.... Long long ago, in a galaxy far far away. Just saying. Do we know what the actor's voice sounds like? Is this even his? He may sound like Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. ;-)

David Reynolds

Definitely should’ve been

I always think of “The Ensigns of Command” as the season three premiere. I’m ALWAYS surprised to see it’s actually the Wes/nanite episode, even after watching TNG for thirty years! Hahaha!

Rob

The “Worf Effect” is a technique where the writers of a story have a new character fight the existing toughest character (such as Worf in Star Trek TNG) and beat or at least do well against him or her. This quickly sets up the new character as being very tough without a lot of exposition

Dark Kronis

Worf gets progressively more swole and still gets beat up.
