Loved the original BSG in the seventies as a kid (my Star Wars in a way ;-) and so a little skeptical about the remake. Got the Mini-Series-DVD sometimes and wow! Hooked immediately (thx Tricia). My favourite show next to Trek.

IMO, when the point is that the character is supposed to be unlikable or with obvious character flaws, and the actor delivers that to the point you become as irritated with them as the other characters, then I would say that's a win on the casting and the writing. He wasn't supposed to have an arc, nor was he supposed to be redeemable. He wasn't there to be liked or sided with. He was there to be an example of what NOT to be. Mission accomplished.

The problem is, good or bad writing, an abrasive character is an abrasive character. You can have an asshole character who is actually immensely likeable... Of course, if the goal is that they're just not likeable, which I think that was the goal here... It's not really the writings fault. Jeeze, this turns into a rabbit hole.

And since they mentioned the promo in other comments: Part of the reason the promos were beloved was because this guy did the promos to mostly every show of my childhood.

2024-05-05 03:45:50 +0000 UTCI don't see this guy as a badly written character; just abrasive. He feels like he is owed this breakthrough and have his name attached to it. In some things, he isn't wrong but he for sure has major character flaws like all humans do. In fact, I like the character for this point exactly. Just because you live in a supposedly idealized society doesn't mean everything follows the ideal. Is it the best season opener? Not even close, I agree with that.
