I don't think a series of films based on those books would be financially viable. Also Peter Weir would not have directed more. I think he would have been burned out making the first one.

Carl Sagan was one of my heroes growing up (I watched the original PBS Cosmos in 1980, something that can still give you goosebumps) so anything he wrote I knew would treat its subject matter with respect.

Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Bill Paxton, and the GOAT himself, Sam Elliot as old west lawmen? Hell yes please. Sure, sure, it does Johnny Ringo a little dirty, but it's still a great overall portrayal of a practically-mythic time in the US West. (But no joke, I hope you come back to Master and Commander. An absolutely fantastic movie that to deserved to spawn followups that never happened). Make sure your mustaches are in good form for this movie, because the mustache quality here is legit.

I am a lifelong trekkie but embarrassingly I have never seen the complete ST:TOS from start to finish and there a bunch of eps I have never seen at all so I am about to check out your reactions to those too while I work my way through :-D
