Mirror, Mirror is Star Trek TOS at its Best

Great discussion! Great editing. Thank you.

The music of TOS is second to none. I listened to this video like it was a podcast and the music is just all over it. This was a great episode and TOS > all other Trek

Evil Alex drinks Earl Grey tea. Evil Josh doesn't trick his friend into promos. Wait a minute...

I'm pretty sure there's a music group named Spock's Beard, but I have no idea what they sound like or if they're still active.

A true classic. I've watched Mirror, Mirror soamy times and there's never been a dull moment.

"I think I might change my screen name to 'Spock's Beard'...LOL" Well, there is a rock band named Spock's Beard. Wikipedia: "Spock's Beard is an American progressive rock band formed in Los Angeles. The band was formed in 1992 by brothers..." Perhaps everyone already knows this as 7 of their members and former members are famous enough to be in wikipedia.

16:13 Also, only huge nerds would notice this aspect, but the Enterprise actually changes. They use the "Pilot" version of the ship in the mirror universe, which doesn't have glowing engine caps, and it has a bigger dish on the bottom of the ship. ... Implying that the technology in the mirror-universe isn't as good, maybe? All their petty squabbling has slowed things down.

Old time Trekkie who’s seen every episode and movie. Mirror, Mirror has always been my all time favourite episode.

Interesting prop reusage, the Mirror MIrror agonizers are donated to the Klingons in season 3's Day of the Dove. Which, intended or not, almost plays like a bit of commentary on who the Klingons are in the main reality. That brutality definitely becomes a part of the Klingons in Star Trek 3 into what we've seen of TNG so far. Mirror Mirror is always a high-ranked episode. I can't remember a single TOS Marathon from the 90s that didn't include it. This is a great choice for a rewatch. This is one of George Takei's favorites, because not only did he get quite a bit to do, he got to really go outside his characters general persona and play that cut-throat, almost pirate-like character.

No, Kosh! No! Keep the dream alive...!

That's the one episode that I wish had been a two-part episode. They would not have to pay any guest stars as the bad guys were just the regular actors. Besides it would seem too silly to transport characters back to this universe all the time, so have as much story as possible in this mirror universe while it is available. There was a really interesting idea that William Shatner or one of the guest writers had. It was that the Tantalus field did not kill its victims, but transported them to a different time or location. Shatner probably borrowed or expanded the idea. That idea probably would have been a much better idea than Star Trek V, although I am starting to appreciate Star Trek V more, but that only took me about 35 years. In one proposed story, it would have been revealed that, sometime after the events of Mirror, Mirror, Spock had used the device on Kirk, depositing him on a remote planet in a different time. I think the Shatner-version of the idea might have involved getting transported to a Klingon prison or something.

I was surprised to learn that this is the TOS episode that is best known in popular culture. I thought it was more of a treat intended for the fans when it was written and wouldn't be the 'break-out' story. I always thought Klingons, Tribbles, God-like aliens, Kirk's semi weekly romances, expendable security personnel and transporters would be the immediately identifiable things. But a goatee is a universal symbol of evil counterpart for even those without direct viewing experience of TOS.

Military uniforms, they have awards and medals and such, and Mirror Universe Terrans so much more militaristic.
