It will be on the poll at some point

I'm glad you both liked this but please consider reacting to THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. That movie, with Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, is far superior.

I think most of the dutch angles aren't actually dutch angles, at least not in the sense of being a purely stylistic choice. The camera is correctly portraying which way is up, and it's the submarine that's at an angle because they're either diving or surfacing.

My late best friend used to be in the army. While serving, he knew a guy in this unit that wanted to be an actor. That guy got a job as a military consultant on the film. Tony Scott liked him so much, he gave him a small part working with Denzel. His name was Armand Watson and he played Seaman Davis. This was his only credited role.

Jack Shipley

Ooh, put that one in the lottery!

Steven Johnson

Thanks for the recommendation Steve!

I made the joke that the only reason I wanted you guys to watch this was for the Star Trek references, but I did want to reveal a little more about what my thinking was there. So, other patreons were suggesting this movie, it's one i really enjoy, but it clicked for me watching you guys talking about Balance of Terror again. You guys were talking about "what if this was only from the Enterprise's perspective." And that got me thinking, because my initial reaction was "no, that wouldn't work." But... I mean that's basically what Crimson Tide is. It's Balance of Terror without the Russian insight. This is one of several movies that my uncle recommended to me as a kid to watch. He was a career Submariner, and if you ask anyone they will tell you this movie is not "realistic" but it is "authentic" if that makes sense. In terms of putting you in a sense of place. The sounds you hear, the way the ship shifts about. It does not do a good job with the minutiae... But it wasn't aiming to do that, either. This is, first and foremost, a character piece dealing with a tough decision. JUST like we see in many episodes of Star Trek.

Y'all should watch RICOCHET too. That one is Denzel vs. John Lithgow.
