Why We Love Low Stakes Episodes in Star Trek TNG

Comments

8:24 Small thing but worth noting nevertheless. Lwaxana is an Betazed ambassador in the Federation and not in Starfleet. The Federation is a civilian government while Starfleet is a "military" organization that predates the federation. This also explains why starfleet is predominantly human, as some members of the Federation still maintain their own fleet/defense force, whilst other have chosen to integrate into this unified military. Lwaxana doesn't really have any power withing starfleet itself which just makes the whole more hilarious in my opinion. Love these discussion videos. Could easily watch a longer version.

My problem with TNG is almost every episode is Low Stakes.

I always took Mr Hom putting his hand at his eyes as a reference to Riker. Because that is the level that Riker comes to realitve to Hom height wise....🤷‍♂️

Greg Quinn

The holodeck only malfunctions when it's necessary for the plot. Most of the time it does exactly what it is asked to do.

You have your subline wrong on YouTube: "Today we discuss season 2 episode 19 - Up the Long ladder."

The one thing TNG excels at over TOS (and just because of its era) is taking time for character development and building interpersonal foundations. The reason we love the campfire scene in FINAL FRONTIER so much is because we have never seen those characters like that. As much as they are family, it's always business on the original 1701. At the most you'll get two minutes of a chess game. TNG is not that animal.

I love low stakes episodes as well 💗
