THURSDAY'S YOUTUBE VIDEO - Discussion on Star Trek TNG S2E16 - Q Who
The plan is to get these Patreon releases to be earlier than on YouTube, very soon. Schedule has been busy recently with channel and non-channel stuff. Will make more effort to get these posted earlier. Thanks for understanding! YouTube link in comments.
One of the best comedic things I've seen for the Borg is a bunch of characters are having a party at Spider-Man's house. There's a knock on the door. Spider-Man answers and it's the Borg. He tells them to leave and closes the door. The Borg knock again and Spider-Man answers. Before he can close the door again, the lead Borg puts his foot against the door to keep it from closing. :)

One of my favorite things about the Borg that we see in this episode is their ability to adapt and quickly become resistant to new threats. We see the first time the Enterprise fires on the Borg cube, they inflict a lot of damage (20% of the cube is damaged). The cube absorbs the damage, goes into hibernation/repair mode, fixes itself and adapts. When the Enterprise fires again, they do no damage at all. The cube then pursues the Enterprise and is able to catch it in a tractor beam, cut it up, drain its shields, and the E is helpless. Basically, the first time you encounter the Borg, is when you will have the best chance of defeating them because it is when you will be the most powerful. If the Borg survive your first attack, they will quickly adapt and you will be powerless after that to stop them. An enemy that can learn that quickly and render your strengths meaningless, is truly terrifying.

Its not a spoiler. They know the show lasts 7 seasons, so I just call it a “7-year mission”.

It's not really weakness for Picard to ask Q for help. Q put them into the bad situation. He's asking Q to get them out, because they learned their lesson.

It's crazy, Q seems a little bit scared of Whoopi. I never understood that.

Gotta remember, this was the 80s. Probably the First "hive mind" use. Everything after was a copy.

When I watched this as a kid, I remember it being weird to me (as an adult I would describe it as "unsettling ") that the Borg ship was a big Cube. Within Trek Canon, the way the ships fly doesn't require aerodynamics, yet they all look like futuristic jets. So the fact that the cube looks like it would fly or float, yet was faster, fixed itself, the borg drones were seemingly infinite, AND expendable. #nightmarefuel

Hey guys. I wanted to tell you that I think titling the youtube episodes as "new fans" is genius. If I was scrolling through YouTube that would pop for me.

John, if we're calling them by their first names 🙄

The reason families are on board is because they’re on a 7-year mission, and so they wont be away from their families that long, they decided to allow families to stay together, which is really risky, but probably alleviates some home sickness and depression.

I hope you noticed the Borg are chasing you...
The crew knew Q (triple rhyme!) was there, they just didn't acknowledge him. If they were going to flip out every time something unexpected happened on the ship they would all be like Ensign Gomez.
Guinan's species is specified in a later series that I haven't seen. To avoid spoilers I'll let someone else post it.

Bjorn was better than McEnroe.

That's a very interesting idea. We don't know what the contracts were like for guest actors. It's possible the producers had an option on more episodes for the actress. Your idea would have made for a more effective emotional punch to the episode.

Now this is how you start a long weekend, Target Audience discussing the Borg, and season 2 episode 20!

When I saw this episode I thought the whole point of meeting Ensign Gomez was because we were going to find out she was one of the 18 crew members lost to the Borg and that way they wouldn't be faceless causalities.
But nope, she's just there to spill hot chocolate on Picard and be a puppydog hopping around Geordi.
