I've been thinking about starting a channel myself about model building, but there are so many that already do and they don't have a very big audience.

Monty Crawford

@StonyD I know it's not really Colin's fault, but the "learn-to-love-him-Doctor" did not work for me at all. The show was really off the rails by that point. I quite liked McCoy, though. The movie was terrible but McGann seemed good. The "new Who" numbers get tricky, because plot. So is Tennant NOT in your list?

Jovet

"2040" HAHA. Alex thinks he's going to be done by 2040. HAHAHA! HAHA!

Steven Johnson

If you're going to watch Unforgiven you have to watch at least one John Wayne western, and Outlaw Josey Wales, and Good Bad and the Ugly. Unforgiven is like a head cap to the western genre. It doesn't mean nearly as much if you haven't actually seen a few good westerns.

Steven Johnson

Party at Alex's house. BYOF!

Jovet

I enjoy Colin....I don't enjoy his coat or some of his stories. But Six is one of my favorite incarnation. Of course, I started with Tom, so it's all downhill from there lol I also like 9, 11, and 12 from the modern era.

StonyD

I do enjoy Angry Orchard, but it’s so damn sweet and full of sugar I started fearing cavities and kidney stones 💀

Josh (Target Audience)

Many YouTube/Patreon channels which react on movies and TV shows trie their hardest to be "professional" and produce as much content as they can. With the result of feeling staged, rushed and almost "work-wise". Please keep your way of being just two friends talking and having a good time. Not only talking about the shows but also about yourself and anything. Although the name we don't want to be your "target audience". We just want to hang out with you.

Marriage proposals incoming.

In the 2015 episode of South Park called "Safe Space," Leopold "Butters" Stotch is tasked with filtering and censoring all the negative and mean comments left by others on Eric Cartman's social media accounts. Seeing only the (very few) positive feedback comments leads Eric to believe people like and look up to him. Butters is so good at it that he is tasked for doing it for others, such as Steven Seagal (a guest speaker at the school) and Demi Lovato. Having to read all of the terrible comments people write, and not getting any sleep because he's so busy, take a terrible mental and physical toll on Butters.

Jovet

I quite enjoy ALL of the "Classic" Doctors... except for Colin.

Jovet

"So is classic Doctor Who (my fave of all time!)" A man of taste! Pertwee & Baker all day long.

StonyD

Don't listen to them! Fireball Bros forever!!

StonyD

Matt, now I’m curious. I have Prime, and I have Paramount plus as a separate channel, what is the difference/advantage to having it on Prime?

Blazing Saddles 💯 Maverick 💯

I'd spent a couple of years driving a white van in Birmingham, UK, when I came back down to the south coast, where I'd grown up. One night, at about 1am, I ran an amber light, saying "city driving!", not realising that a police car was immediately behind me! I got away with it by saying, when they asked me "what does an amber light mean to you?", "uhh, it's about to turn red?". It was 1am, the guy was just itching to do at keast SOMETHING

I'd suggest finding a nice hard cider, you might really enjoy.

Josh, well alright let's watch some westerns! Whether it's ones based on real people and actual events like 'Tombstone' or the 'Young Guns' movies... or original fiction like 'Unforgiven', 'True Grit' or 'The Quick and the Dead'... there's a neverending well of great films there. But you never know if you're putting off discovering your next obsession... Take this for what you will, but I was scrolling twitter the other day and saw a tweet from some random person that said "I've gone my entire thirty year life never having seen Tombstone, and now I've watched it twice within the last 24 hours"

James Bottas

Alex, Glengarry Glen Ross is one of my all time favorite movies. I get why you'd call it a hidden gem, it's not commonly mentioned these days.. nevertheless, it has one of the most 'stacked with all time great actors' casts ever and like you said, scenes that are acting class staples. Another reason people tend to know this movie is if you work in sales. If you're a salesman and you hang with other salesmen, you've probably been told to watch Glengarry Glen Ross.

James Bottas

Clearly I missed a reference somewhere along the way. No idea what that means.

John M.

Delivery guy just knocked on my door loudly right as Josh was describing the plot of that demon on the bridge movie. I jumped

James Bottas

Yeah! Just have Butters do it!!

Jovet

Hey Josh, I'm no expert on Westerns, but I'd really recommend Clint Eastwood's film Unforgiven (1992). Shane (1953) is also very good. If you'd prefer to ease into Westerns with some comedy, check out Mel Brooks' fourth-wall shattering Blazing Saddles (1974) or Mel Gibson in Maverick (1994). If you can find a little-known comedy western from 1979 called "The Villain" in some countries and "Cactus Jack" in others, it is worth a watch. It has some pretty big names in it, but most people haven't heard of it. The best thing about Glengarry Glen Ross is that it gave us this- https://youtu.be/J_vSirIJEsY?si=6nRIy_ifOSbGVJzc

Re:YouTube comments. Why not just have moderators send you five to 10 great comments they see? Aside from your mental health, I just hate to think of all the times you've been/will be spoiled. Re: What will you be as you become Star Trek fans: you're already there, obviously. And since you won't start catching up with new episodes until sometime in late 2031 (at current pace), probably best not to worry about it. :D

John M.

My favorite western is "Man Who Shot Liberty Valence" but the one if you asked Spielberg and Scorsese, they'd tell you "The Searchers". Both the same director. I'd say the reason to watch something besides ST is the old expression about variety being the spice of life. Glengarry Glen Ross has Jack Lemmon, who never gave a bad performance and could play characters one bad day from a breakdown better than anyone. For Paramount+ I had to cancel my account and add it to Prime so I could watch there.

I left another comment on YT but then I kept thinking about Alex mentioning Aftersun and I realized I have seen it and liked it a lot! I think it's a good exploration of how suicide can affect those left behind, especially kids. I thought it captured the feeling of being depressed in situations where we're expected to be happy and the struggle of having to put on a "happy face" and as someone who has dealt with depression (and had to deal with it in pretty much the same area where the movie takes place!) it resonated with me. On the other hand I can totally see how someone who is into more traditional narrative structures could be indifferent to it. There's no stakes or an antagonist or even a problem to be solved here, more of a general vibe (and a sad one at that). I think it's like comparing rock music with standard chord progressions and verse-chorus structure with something like electronic music or jazz fusion. Both can be as expressive and well crafted but not everyone will like both. And that's not just ok but great since it means there is limitless possibilities when in comes to creating stuff, whether we're talking movies, music or even food and clothing.

Captain Proton

MASH is an excellent show! So is Magnum PI. So is classic Doctor Who (my fave of all time!). So is Red Dwarf. So is Silicon Valley. ugh, I could go on...

Jovet

You could, you know, put it in a glass. *ducks*

Jovet

It will take years, but they'll do it! They really love Star Trek (so far), so they are strongly motivated. TNG is my favorite Star Trek, by far, so I'm just giddy and excited for them right now!

Jovet

You almost dare me with that to go on a mission to find a whiskey you like :D

Andreas Schmitt

It’s very odd, I hate the taste of almost all alcohol. Most beer I can’t even drink, I find it nauseating. Fireball though I can drink like water 🤷🏻‍♂️ - Josh

Josh (Target Audience)

As for sticking around after Star Trek.. dude I'm old. By the time you're done with Star Trek I'll be in a nursing home or the cemetary probably :P (well not quite but.. When Star Trek is over I'll force you somehow to watch all 11 seasons of MASH :P)

Andreas Schmitt

Love the sitdown sessions :) But for the love of god, if you have to chug whiskey, let someone send you something that isn't fireball :D

Andreas Schmitt

"Once Star Trek is over" lmao - lol you'll never catch up :D EDIT: the only way to watch Paramount Plus is to have it as a channel on Prime Video. Their base service is ABSOLUTE TRASH.

Matt Newmark

Glengerry Glen Ross: EXCELLENT film. Coffee is for closers

Collin Freeman

ROTFL @ "Bagel-Taint"

Jovet

yep I've never heard of it. Though, I've never claimed to be a "big movie guy," as I tend to only see things I know or strongly suspect I'll enjoy.

Jovet

Josh, put Akira Kurosawa on your list of foreign film directors. Start with The seven Samurai and Yojimbo. Then go watch some westerns. It will all make sense then.

Collin Freeman

Just don't go down in flames, Alex! 😁 hahaha

Jovet

You guys were drinking Fireball? I thought that was apple juice in a Fireball bottle...

Darin Wagner

Interesting that you brought up the Russo brothers, Alex. My friend Ande Parks wrote a graphic novel called Ciudad which became the blueprint for the extraction movies on Netflix with Chris Hemsworth. Ande worked with the Russos on the plot and then wrote that graphic novel.

Collin Freeman

26:29 RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2!! ME TOO!! It is my literal CRACK these days. I am currently deep in trying to find all of the Legendary Pelts. My horse's name is "Bagel-Taint" and he's a good 'boa'...

StonyD

It bothers me you give mouthbreathers from YouTube comment section a moment of your attention. The growth of your channel and Patreon should be more than enough proof that you two are doing everything exactly right. Star Trek will end, but I'm here for the long haul. I'm going to watch you two grow old. ...yeah that last bit sounds creepy. Sorry.

StonyD

Yes, The Nice Guys is cool. Alex, I hope you get a chance to finish it. It's clever and funny. Gosling's best performance imo

StonyD

I know, right?? 😍😍 No idea why I was surprised, but I was!

Lady Beyond The Wall

I’m interested in watching Session 9 with you guys. Alex’s comments alone have me intrigued.

Collin Freeman

Part of the charm of your earlier videos was the folksy, at home look. I think it felt more personal, less produced. Don’t get me wrong: I like the green screen very much. But don’t sell yourselves short on the old stuff. Aesthetics aren’t everything.

Collin Freeman

Definitely watch the big Lebowski. I think that would be a good one for the target audience. I love it.

Collin Freeman

Alex and Josh, I could clearly see you became Star Trek fans a long time ago. You just have not seen it as much or as long as many of us. And don’t get me started on the Trekkie, Trekker, Trekist B.S.

Collin Freeman

Agreed.

Collin Freeman

Single and ready to fireball! 🤠

Josh (Target Audience)

1:03:00 My favorite hidden gem on YouTube is a spoof Australian cooking show called The Katering Show. Some of the funniest shit ever, to me. Shame there are only fourteen (~10 minute) episodes! NSFW though. It's mostly harmless but there is language and one shock scene.

Jovet

1:01:00 Don't be too hard on your older stuff. Don't forget your roots! And appreciate how far you perceive you've come.

Jovet

46:16 Oh!? Which railroad? What did you do there?

Jovet

19:30 You're already Star Trek fans. 🙂 You just haven't seen all of Star Trek yet. I mean, I haven't either.

Jovet

17:45 I suspect you were listening to Glenn Haege. The man was a master! He did that show for over 30 years! Much respect. He died in 2017.

Jovet

11:00 It can be difficult and take practice, but life is better when you stop worrying about what people who don't care about you think.

Jovet

Alex is single?? 😮😮😮

Jovet

I only drink when I watch you guys...
