I felt it was more egregious in Avengers. At least the army in Phantom Menace was droids. The army in Avengers were alive and still shut down.

Thanks. "The part where the parasite enters Remmick's throat reportedly took many takes because the bulging effect was made by (make-up supervisor Michael) Westmore blowing into (a) bladder under a false neck and (director Cliff) Bole kept trying to make Westmore hyperventilate from the exertion." Wow, I didn't think about that being a practical effect. I guess maybe I did back then as there was no really CGI until Terminator 2 came out a few years later in 1991. I think there's an even more awesome special effect in an early second season episode as I had never seen anything like it at the time.

In The Phantom Menace, they blow up the droid control ship and it instantly deactivates all of the droid army. It’s a common movie trope to easily defeat an “army” of some kind by just taking out one enemy or thing. Phantom Menace is just an easy one to reference, because it is so blatant in that example.

I'm dumb. What does The Phantom Menace reference mean? I usually try not to think about The Phantom Menace except for those final light sabre duel scenes.

Your reaction to the last 3 minutes of this episode is worth the price of being a patron this month...

This one was always difficult for me to watch not only because I don't like gory things, but I also have a very strong gag reflex. Just seeing the creatures crawling in and out of the mouths, no matter how fake it looks, can set me off. On a TOS note, David Soul just passed away at the age of 80. He was best known for starring as Hutch in the 70s detective TV series "Starsky & Hutch". For TOS he was in "The Apple" as Makora, one of the natives who learned to kiss by watching Chekov and Yeoman Landon.

Thomas Paine was one of America’s most famous Founding Fathers. He wrote “Common Sense” and a series of pamphlets that touched off the independence movement. He is also one of the major examples of Founding Fathers who explicitly rejected Christianity and the idea that the country must be founded on Judeo-Christian principles.

I've seen 2 versions of this episode down through the years. The one you watched (original ) and one HEAVILY edited version where they hit Remmik's head for like a second and then cut away, and he's dead. Glad you got the original 😃

I think that most people trash season 1 and 2 is that watching reruns over the years we only watched season 3 and on. When 1 and 2 came on we’re like “eh” and that led to “seasons 1 and 2 suck!”

Terminaldogma01

Truly a bizarre episode. Almost like The Outer Limits snuck their way into the writers room.

Terminaldogma01

I will complain about season 2. Three is where it hits its stride. There are better episodes but a few embarrassing clunkers. As far as a season 1 episode. … this one was amazing.

Crankygrandma

Well, see? That would never occur to me. :D

Obviously, but it is

12:30 The fight scene isn't supposed to be funny...
