UNCUT REACTION (FROM THE VAULT) - Star Trek TOS ep8 - Miri

Comments

TOS Sex Scoreboard To clear up something. This is NOT the BONK BONK board. This is actually the BOINK BOINK board. Therefore we once again (thank god) have no additions. Kirk -1 Bones -1 Spock 0 Janice -1 Extra: The above entries are only temporary I am sure but after this blah blah blah episodes the above will surely reduce their sex count by one to avoid ever having these yard-apes.

I'm gonna sound like a hypocrite seeing as I JUST commented on the ST:V reaction that if you love a franchise you need to embrace the good with the bad, but this is one of those episodes I just can't. Now that said, if I'm doing a full trek rewatch(which is rare given the scale of the franchise), I won't skip even the terrible bits. It's just the completionist in me. But there are some episodes I just don't try and find any good in, because there isn't any. See the thing is, you guys shouldn't have needed this episode to realize you wouldn't love every episode. As of writing this, there are a little over 900 episodes and 13(10) movies of Trek. Easily up there as one of the biggest tv franchises of all time in sheer amount of content(outside soap operas and procedurals, but they don't count😁). It's IMPOSSIBLE for it all to be good, in fact it's almost certain some of it would be terrible. Spock's Brain, The Alternative Factor, And the Children Shall Lead, Code of Honor in TNG. These are just a sampling and there are certainly quite a few real stinkers to come. Some are very uncomfortable like this and make you wonder what the writers were smoking. Some are just plain weird........and make you wonder what the writers were smoking, but at least they're in the "so bad they're good" category. Others are just stupid/boring, but are fairly self contained and you can forget them and move on. When Trek is bad, it can be REALLY bad. On the flip side though, when Trek is good, very few shows can match it. Peaks and valleys. By comparison, Stargate SG1(another show worth checking out at some point if you haven't see it) I always found to be much more even in quality. In my book, it rarely reaches the same peaks of quality that Trek does, but it also rarely has genuinely bad/cringe episodes. There are a few, but they're a lot more bearable. The majority of the franchise hovers between decent and great. Trek just hits excellent more often. So yeah, worst episode of TOS in my opinion. There are some others that are pretty terrible, but none make me want to call up Chris Hansen.

No blah blah blah!

[Edited due to my original error] I checked online and all the articles I could find (admittedly in about 15 minutes) stated the BBC refused write-in requests to RE-broadcast this episode from their audience members for ST TOS until the early 1990's. I never saw 'Miri' until that time. Yes, 'Miri' was broadcast in December 1970, but I was just over two years old at that time.

You sure I am in the UK and remember seeing it way before the 90's or maybe it dropped later as I was watching Trek since the 70's (born in 1970)

This was slow, but I don't hate it. There are worse.

Growing up in Ireland this episode wasn't shown on BBC TV (which we received here) until the 1990's. Presumably because the BBC considered it inappropriate for impressionable younger viewers. I found out eventually that I wasn't being deprived of much of a viewing experience (besides Grace Lee Whitney).

I am sure it was pointed out in the original reaction on you tube how completely unrealistic this story is. A lab created virus that was meant to help humanity that in fact destroys people and the older the more deadly. How ridiculous as that could never happen.
