Guys did you notice Yar wave goodbye to the camera as Picard and Bev are exiting the bay? This was her last full ep before she gets killed.

Their whole society is geared towards PAYING for the drug that they don't recognize they're addicted to. You may say the Prime Directive stuff was out of nowhere, but so was the drug addiction thing.
