I myself enjoy the Sci Fi aspect of of the show much more than the cultural stuff. Like, I always found the part about Geordi's visor much more interesting and well realized than the rest of the episode. But, the extremeness of these Klingon's view of the world really allows Worf to be a more interesting character in the long run. Some have complained about the dialog, but I think the Klingon dialog is pretty masterful and meaningful.

Jovet

Yeah, that falling through the floor and cracking the next was a GREAT touch!

Jovet

The first Worf centric episode and the first where they let him NOT get his ass kicked! The seeds laid in this episode would be the basis for who the Klingons are in TNG and going forward.

Eric Bundy

I forgot that was Vaughn Armstrong. He much later down the road becomes a recurring character on a Trek show, in which I to be honest found him pretty boring. He really does well here, though.

Joe Concepts

This will definitely be a favorite of yours I predict.

Mike Rogers

What’s interesting about this and how the Klingons were portrayed in the early seasons, as having joined the Federation when around season three it would be retconned as there being an alliance between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.

Leighton Cressman

One of the strongest entries in season one of "TNG" and first to allow Michael Dorn to take centre stage as Worf and he rises to the occasion. He's matched by a terrific performance from guest star Vaughn Armstrong. The sequence with Geordi allowing the crew (and us) to see what he sees is also memorable as well. Solid story,

William McRae

As a kid, I watched TNG a bit out of order, so I didn't realize until much later that this is the episode that makes Worf an actual character and establishes what Klingons are in this century. Knowing what's to come in the next 10 years of TNG and DS9 makes the episode much more enjoyable to watch now. But it's also not bad on its own, definitely in my top 3 Season 1 episodes.

This’ll be a good episode for me to watch with you guys while I’m in the hospital recovering from my (very painful) appendectomy. Thank you guys for all you do!

Ragnarok

Awful episode, too much stupid klingon stuff.

Phillip Grischa

I loved that Mal finally got lucky and I wonder if River was actually reading the baby's mind: "who do you think is in there?". Oh wait this isn't Heart of Gold. Well I can finally put Mal on my Scoreboard

Prof Moff

First episode that tries to characterise the Klingons, gives them an identity beyond an allegory for the Soviets (especially in this setting where they're in a military alliance with the Federation) At this stage they're still working out the kinks so the Klingons will continue to evolve through the next few seasons. And it Will take many seasons & in a different show, but They Will make that Death Scream Look Badass

Justin DiBari

This is a great episode, we finally get some Klingon lore, and the death ritual really is interesting. The following Klingon episodes in this series are rich with lore and backround, ESPECIALLY Worf’s personal trials during the series, which fully fleshes him out. Not only will the guys love this episode, but I think they’ll like almost all the Klingon episodes! (Then again, their tastes vary). But they seem to like lore and world-building, so we’ll see!

Chris S.

Couldn’t agree more!

Chris S.

MMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

Strife

Hey, another one for my top 10....getting real crowded in there. Good thing there are not many more episodes left this season! You guys got the Worf Ep. you wanted, what was the best part to you guys? That's it! 😀🖖

Duane Chancey

these last two episodes are like spoiler minefields this is only going to get harder to navigate. I think you’re going to love this one finally , some heavy background for Worf and Geordi.

Thicketdweller

Like the last episode this is one of the many you’ll see that gives character development and is hugely enjoyable. I liked that the Klingons were consistent with the version established in Star Trek III.

Paul Rymer

Speaking as a person who had no sight inn my right eye as a child and low vision in my left eye I spent a lot of time thinking about perception and trying to understand why what I saw did not somehow match what others saw I contemplated that perhaps what I saw as blue might actually look orange to another But that as we could not perceive the world through each others eyes that we could not actually know the differences in perception such as color blindness and how the inability to communicate beyond simple perception challenges us to grow and find words and ideas that communicate beyond those limitations a concept that is represented in many stories throughout Star Trek and really well represented visually in this story I think the opportunity to see through another’s eyes would be enlightening and it seemed to have that effect on Picard while viewing the Visual Acuity Imagery We have all heard “it’s a matter of perspective” but really “it’s a matter of perception” “if you could see what I hear” We got to see some heavy lifting in the look at the world through someone else’s eyes

Thicketdweller

One of the nuggets of S1 gold. Fantastic direction. Love the final shot of the Klingon falling through the engineering floor. Another Rob Bowman classic

Jon1701

I think they would be followers of commander Kruge (yes, he is dead but some considered him a hero) or at least the faction of Klingons that want unbridled conquest

Thicketdweller

This is the beginning of Worf becoming one of the best characters. Such a great episode, and really begins fleshing out not just his character, but Klingon culture in a new way.

Chuck Rice

ok so this episode rocks. I've been waiting for this one since the beginning and I think you'll like it a lot. Our first Worf episode gives us a lot on Worf's background and where things stand with the klingons and federation. It plays with the question of, can Worf be trusted? Last time we dealt with klingons they were straight up villains and it's not like we've had the chance to get to know Worf yet. He ends up showing his character by admitting that he has his inner conflicts but betraying Starfleet was never going to happen. I could go on way too long about this episode but I want to call out the performance by Patrick Stewart in two key scenes... both times the klingon death ritual is performed. The first time, Picard is kind of taken aback. He's got this WTF look on his face. He's us, we've never seen this either. At the end though, when Worf performs the ritual for Korris, Picard's look has changed. Now It's a look of understanding and respect. The juxtaposition between those two scenes hits me like a ton of bricks every time. That is top tier Trek to me. The meaning of the death ritual: a warning to the dead that a klingon warrior is about to arrive. That's hard AF I know this post is probably unusable for the video LOL but that's ok

James Bottas

This is the episode I definetively point to as a defence for this season. Deep dive on Klingons, Worf, his relation to Starfleet, great action, great direction... And remember, Klingons typically view dead bodies as worthless husks. That death ritual is FIRE world-building. And finally, you now get a ahem, sense of what Geordi sees.

Nolan

LOL ok that was funny

James Bottas

Yikes! Those phaser shots are a lot nastier than I remember.

Matthew McKinnon-Gray

Yeah, it’s a great episode but I can’t hear “the traitors of Kling” without laughing. It sounds like he’s disappointed in Velcro.

Matthew McKinnon-Gray

Here's a question for you: How well do you project that these Klingons represent the Klingon culture and mindset as a whole?

Jovet

Don't you know that it really shines in the original Klingon? (LOL)

Jovet

Oh! That's this episode? I thought it was a few seasons away... I really liked that part of this episode.

Jovet

I think their dialogue got maybe a bit too Shakespearean, but it still laid the foundation of where the Klingons are going.

Joe Concepts

Won't be long now before we reach an episode or two that I'm sure your viewers can't wait for you to see.

Joe Concepts

Two things I'll say: 1)Still love the scene where the non-Worf Klingons use pieces of their armor to help them escape. 2)Don't get used to the Klingon homeworld being called "Kling". Someone probably realized how dumb that sounded.

CM Waters

With increased serialization in this series (as compared TOS), how do you think that the motivation behind the three klingons exile will be explored throughout the series, with worf and with other klingons in the future?

TivAcrid

Hopefully you paid attention to Worf's back story. You'll learn even more details about it in the coming seasons.

Joe Concepts

Star Trek III gave us the first real focus on Klingon post-TOS, and that gave us the full-on Klingon language, and you may notice the uniforms from that movie are the basis of the TNG costumes. It is this show that really creates most of the Klingon culture, and they are important parts of almost every later series, to one degree or another.

Joe Concepts

Even though she had departed TNG many episodes before this was produced, I believe this was the last TNG episode co-written by D.C. Fontana. It won’t her last time writing for Star Trek however.

Glenn Johnson Barnes

So now you know what Geordi can see. For me that part was a little...underwhelming. I liked the Worf plot better. Not in this episode, but I think in many of them Worf gets the funniest lines.

KatWithAttitude

This is where I believe you guys will perceive the "world building" aspect of TNG is really cooking: it's not a spoiler that EVERY character of TNG, and also those not yet introduced in the series (remember, 7 years is a LONG time, and there are 1,014 people aboard the Enterprise-D, which has 8 times the volume of Kirk's Enterprise according to the show's original ship specs), will have stories revolving around them - each of them - during the 7-year span of the series. That length of time allows a LOT of character development, and lots of time to explore the backgrounds of EVERYONE on the show. THE WRITERS CRAFTED THIS SAGA, based upon Gene Roddenberry's vision and inspiration. You guys are gonna love this!

Rhett Coates

I smell Roddenberry’s hand in how the Klingons came across in this episode

Collin Freeman

Following up the one Wesley episode that I like with probably the one Klingon episode I don't. They make the same mistake with the Klingons as they did with the Ferengi in their first episode. Too over the top.

Nerd's Gold

Waiting a long while for you to see this episode. We finally get Worf’s background. What the heck did one of them say to the other when they were about to break out of the brig?

Geoffrey Linehan

Worf finally gets something to do. The audience reception to this episode proved to the producers that Worf was a viable and important character. The Klingon lore will get tweaked as the series goes along, providing some of the best stories.

Collin Freeman

Wow! I’ve been waiting for an Worf episode, and it did not disappoint! Not only did we get to learn more about this intriguing character.. but also more about the Klingons in general. Loved the Death Ritual. And a side note, was also cool to know a little more about Geordi earlier in the episode.. and how he literally sees! This may be my favorite episode so far!

TalynStarburst

If I had to pick a favorite episode of this season, this would be it. The music is great, echoing Goldsmith's Klingon theme from The Motion Picture, the lore we get on the Klingons fits with what we've seen before and opens up many opportunities for the future. Michael Dorn shows he is a versatile and capable actor.

Steven Johnson

Couldn't wait for this one, since you kept asking what Geordi can see. Also an amazing episode about Worf and Klingon culture in general. I bet you loved this one :) Yet another for the top list :)

Andreas Schmitt

Klingons, Geordi vision, and starting to build out Worf as a character.

Gregory

For me, the chance to see what Geordi sees is better than the Klingon story here. While the tidbits we learn about the Federation-Klingon alliance are good, the characters themselves were less interesting than the Klingons we’d previously seen in the films. Nice to see Tasha doing her security job, though.

tyranusfan

Oh man, Alex and Josh are legit going to love this one! It's got everything, from lore (the backstory, not the evil Data twin), a decent story, good action, this is a highlight of season 1! Fun Fact: It's probably obvious, but the Klingon ship on the view screen is reused footage from The Motion Picture.

The Game Show Reviewer

This is where Star Trek begins to expand on the Klingon lore and culture and Worf finally gets something to do. The seeds planted here on the Klingons will start to grow and be built upon throughout the franchise. They start to become less of an allegory for cold war era Russians, and into their own thing.

Ca$hWednesday

Here we go, Next Gen finally begins to put its own stamp on the culture of the Klingons, a change which began back in Star Trek II. Also if you think they'll never address why the TOS Klingons were so different from the ones going forward, you will be very surprised.

JD Nevesytrof

Great to see Worf get something to stick his pointed teeth into, and nice to get a bit of Klingon lore!

SinocTheHodgeheg

Well, you finally got your Worf episode, was it everything you hoped for? I loved this episode, it was a great introduction to Worf and Klingon lore.

Gary Leyh

Klingon lore!
