D. C. Fontana also wrote one of the most original and classic Star Trek episodes Journey to Babel which also involves the Enterprise transporting aliens to a Federation-type meeting. That episode was so much better than this one. I think William's Shatner's stunt work is part of what kept him alive into his early 90s; there's none of that in this series. This episode feels like it had leftover unused parts from Journey to Babel. Perhaps D. C. Fontana simply added those parts to the original script by Michael Halperin, and it looks like this is Michael Halperin's only writing credit as it looks like he is most known for writing on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Did we ever see those aliens again? The original series would have reused those costumes several times. Another very uninspiring episode stuck on the Enterprise.

It's great that you are enjoying this series so far, but (spoiler alert) the best episodes of this season are the last few. If you guys are enjoying TNG so far this much, you are going to just love the following seasons.
