Christmas Movie Suggestions

I know it seems a bit early to be talking about Christmas, but the next movie poll will be for our Christmas special episode of Audience Cut! We will watch a Christmas related movie chosen by you, so drop your suggestions below.

Keep in mind we’ve seen most of the mainstream popular ones, so the more obscure the Christmas movie the better! Poll coming in November.

Comments

Santa Claus the Movie. Terrible but entertaing!

Alex Hudson

Ok here is my Suggestion guys....A Christmas Carol 1938 is my Fav and I watch it every other year or so on Christmas. If you both have seen this one then never mind. The Star Wars one is not one I would suggest you watch....not during Christmas or ever. It will ruin Christmas not to mention Star Wars for you forever. That Star Wars T.V. Holiday Special was really Awful. However if you are interested in Completeness....it should be watched as the last thing on your Star Wars unwatched list if you have one. Even as a 12 year old when it came on T.V. I thought it was soo bad! 🖖

Duane Chancey

The Hogfather might be a thorough change of pace for you, and I’m curious what you’d think of it (good or ill)! …it is, however, very long. xD

KR Thompson

Bad Santa and Bad Santa 2

Lonnie Vannatter

Hercule Poirot's Christmas

Ken R

We actually did a reaction to this in the early days of our channel!

Josh (Target Audience)

Sounds perfect. Google says its a Christmas Movie, that's good enough for me.

Tristan Rose

Only a Christmas movie in part and would raise controversial questions about what a Christmas movie is and the role of religion in fiction. (For example, "Die Hard" is more unambiguously a Christmas movie than "LWW".)

Anthony Bernacchi

The Family Man (2000) {Nic Cage!}

Tristan Rose

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)

Tristan Rose

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Tristan Rose

It’s only 1/5 a Christmas movie, but I’d love to see the guys watch the 1972 Tales From the Crypt. The first segment is a post Edith Keeler Joan Collins as a murderous wife terrorized by a Santa dressed killer on Christmas Eve..pure camp mixed with horror.

Glenn Johnson Barnes

I've always enjoyed the Scott version, but it does (I think) depend on which version of the story you first see. Many people swear by the Alastair Sim version.

Numinous2019

It features the notorious Pia Zadora as a child. Google her if you're not familiar with her.

KatWithAttitude

Bad Santa

BossTycoon

Lion in Winter is a great unconventional Christmas movie

Jonathan

They play A Christmas Story so much that even people who haven't seen it have seen it. It's burned into our blood.

Steven Johnson

That is a great one.

Steven Johnson

Yes!!!

Steven Johnson

The Bishop's Wife is a great classic movie.

Timothy Hennon

It's a Wonderful Life is the classic Christmas movie for a reason, but Gremlins, Tokyo Godfathers, Black Christmas, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Lion in Winter, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, and The Night of the Hunter are good non-conventional picks.

Shoumik Hassin

O.K. I’m going for old , obscure, and horror. The 1974 Margot Kidder Classic: Black Christmas A cult film if ever there was one.

Thicketdweller

Or me, Now, I’m interested

Thicketdweller

It's also in the public domain due to a missing copyright notice, so they would be able to post the full reaction *with the movie itself* on both Patreon and YouTube! (The musical score is copyrighted, so they might need to mute the sound for parts of the film.)

Anthony Bernacchi

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! A classic that never ages.

Robert Edelmann

The Christmas Chronicles 1 and 2 with Kurt Russell as a very cool Santa.

T’Pynyn of Vulcan

"A Christmas Story" from 1983 is an absolute classic, and really very funny. Since it plays on TV so often, you guys have probably seen it.

PFCoffey

Gotta be George C. Scott's 'A Christmas Carol' from 1984. By far, the finest portrayal of Dickens' story. Absolutely brilliant!

Shane Davis

Wait-you are wrestlers and no one has mentioned SANTA'S SLAY? Thats your movie!..Truuust me!! If you arent hooked in the first 5 minutes -I'll eat reindeer poop...

Badger

I have to get behind this suggestion. One of my all time favorite movies

James Bottas

You're most likely to have not seen some of the older movies, I would guess. A couple I like are: The Bishop's Wife (1947) with Cary Grant and Loretta Young Christmas in Connecticut (1945) with Barbara Stanwyck

KatWithAttitude

It's hard to think of films that not everyone has seen, but I thought of 2 that are pretty under the radar and 1 well known one but a lot of people haven't seen. Krampus, a fairly recent comedy horror film. Trading Places, an old school comedy from the 80s. That one may be a bit too risque for this channel but was worth mentioning. And the more well known suggestion would be Jingle All the Way from the 90s.

THE LORE!!!

I didn't know there was a "badder cut" Got to check that out.

D Jammers

I made that suggestion also. Great movie.

Monty Crawford

I can only think of one movie that engulfs the heart and soul of both Christmas and the Target Audience. A movie with un-describable ( yes un) special effect and writing. Acting that is unmatched by any movie ever made. I am referring to of course: " Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". It also has the advantage of ( I am sure) never having been seen by the guys

Prof Moff

Either watch the original theatrical cut or the unrated "Badder Santa" cut. Do not waste your time with the Director's Cut, as it removes IMO one of the funniest scenes in the movie (the boxing ring).

Timothy Hennon

Bad Santa

D Jammers

The George C. Scott version is my favorite version.

KatWithAttitude

I watched it on YouTube last year. It was good.

KatWithAttitude

Maybe "A Christmas Carol" from 1999. Where our most british frenchman of Starfleet alias Jean Luc Picard will "engage" your hearts in his version of "A Christmas Story". :-)

Sebastian_Frodo

Great film. Wasn’t crazy about the musical aspect. But the George C. Scott version in 1984 is a more serious dramatic tone. Scott is amazing. My personal fav.

Chris S.

Although it's slightly more of an Easter movie than a Christmas movie and you've probably already seen it: Ben Hur (1959)

Markus Ruoff

“Silent Night, Deadly Night”..the original.. And I’m sure you’ve seen “A Christmas Story”, but watching it while keeping in mind that the dad was married to “queen Deela” from Wink of an Eye gives it a whole new experience ha.

Glenn Johnson Barnes

I would also add Love Actually as a suggestion. I also like Scrooge, a Christmas musical starring Albert Finney.

Deborah Osika

Harried career woman from the city visits small town and finds romance with handsome, down-to-earth, but still wealthy blue collar guy.

Timothy Hennon

I always loved George C. Scott's portrayal of Scrooge as more of a cynical, world-weary a$$hole. His Scrooge is the most relatable, for me, anyway.

Timothy Hennon

My late mother saw the 1999 Patrick Stewart "Christmas Carol" movie for the first time the Christmas before she died, although she had previously heard the audio version of Stewart's one-man show. She liked the movie so much that I think she would have seen it every subsequent Christmas if she had lived longer, although she found the opening scenes hard to watch because she loved Stewart from TNG, and it was tough for her to see him playing such a nasty character. The movie includes scenes from the book that are seldom included in screen adaptations (although the Muppet version is also very faithful to the book).

Anthony Bernacchi

2 movies that are fantastic if Alex and Josh haven’t seen them are 1-A Christmas Carol, the George C. Scott version, and 2- The ORIGINAL Miracle on 34th street with Natalie Wood!

Chris S.

It originally aired on November 17, 1978, so closer to Thanksgiving than Christmas, and Life Day is closer in concept to Thanksgiving than Christmas.

Anthony Bernacchi

Love Actually. A Christmas-themed "Chick Flick" with a ridiculously loaded all-star British cast, and where--strangely for a chick flick--the vast majority of main characters are men.

Timothy Hennon

They only have four stories, they just keep retelling them over and over and over again!

Steven Johnson

Love that one, the George C. Scott version and the Albert Finney musical (though I would not recommend that last one on this channel.)

David Wayne Fox

It's not a Christmas special, it's a Life Day special!

William Willis

The Ref. It's from the late 90's - early 00's with Dennis Leary

Katie Jackson

Good movie, better book, but it just sort of involves a Christmas as part of a long long narrative?

JD Nevesytrof

If all else fails, there are several thousand to choose from on the Hallmark Channel and Lifetime, all with roughly the same plot.

David Felgate

What an underrated gem. I like that it has an original premise instead of reusing the premise of another Christmas movie. More people need to discover this film.

Mills

But if that's not an option, the 1999 Patrick Stewart Christmas Carol.

Steven Johnson

You are correct.

Steven Johnson

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is another that should be considered a classic

Neill Shaughness

The Green Knight, Placido, A Muppet Christmas Carol, Tangerine, And The Ship Sailed on are all excellent Christmas movies

Neill Shaughness

Stewart did an interview recently with Jonathan Frakes where they mentioned that he did a stage play of it on Broadway, I think, voicing 30-40 parts, but I guess that is something different. It looks like the TNT version is from 1999 and features Richard E. Grant and Joel Grey. It's apparently 95 minutes long. I say that this or Star Wars would probably be most appropriate for this channel, depending upon what they have seen previously.

Chtphr Rrr

Christmas is a Die Hard movie.

JD Nevesytrof

Trading Places

BeatleBug69

The Long Kiss Goodnight, very underrated with a great cast (Geena Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, Brian Cox)

Phillip Grischa

Krampus (2015)

James Bottas

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

James Bottas

It is absolutely terrible

AzoriusMage

Die Hard.

Steven Johnson

Oh, come on, now... Come on! That thing is 80% boredom!

Steven Johnson

It was a TV movie as I recall.

Steven Johnson

One that doesn’t get nearly enough attention is Rise of the Guardians (2012).

James H

Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (1983) - not typical Xmas fare it’s a WWII prison camp drama.

Paul Rymer

A Christmas Carol (1999) starring Sir Patrick Stewart, one of my favorites & very high production value considering it's a TNT feature presentation. It's a must see TV movie!

Billy T. Riker

Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)

AzoriusMage

Three Days of the Condor (1975)

Jiri Luza

Die Hard (oh but its not a Christmas movie it just takes place on Christmas) don't care a very large section of people including myself have made it a christmas tradition to watch it every year on Christmas and that names it a Christmas film more than it taking place on christmas

Talon Karrde

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

Mark Chrisco

It's a Wonderful Life (1946) A Christmas Story (1983) A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) Those are great but widely seen. So is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989). 2018 Grinch? I just know of the 2000 Jim Carrey version and 1966 version voiced by Boris Karloff. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)? Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983) is only 26 minutes. There are only about a 100 or 1000 versions of a Christmas Carol; just pick a new unseen version that looks interesting perhaps. A lot of television show even did a version of A Christmas Carol. Of course, there's the Star Wars Christmas special; I remember seeing that live.

Chtphr Rrr

Patrick Stewart's A Christmas Carol? Is there a video of that? I thought it was just an audio recording. However, I am told that he creates 30 to 40 different voices for the reading.

Chtphr Rrr

Patrick Stewart's A Christmas Carol

tyranusfan

I don't think anyone talks about Mel Gibson's "Fat Man" ridiculous premise, but definitely a hidden gem in my book

Justin DiBari

Joseph Metzger

Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are obvious choices, but you both have probably seen them multiple times.

Collin Freeman

It's a Wonderful Life (1946) A Christmas Story (1983) Bad Santa (2003) The Grinch (2018 animated movie) A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) It Happened on 5th Avenue (1947) Miracle on 34th Street (1947, 1973 or 1994) Die Hard (Now I Have A Machine Gun Ho-Ho-Ho)

Andreas Schmitt

The Ref.

Monty Crawford

Violent Night

Adam Reid

I concur

Dion James Pitman

The Twilight Zone: Night of the Meek (episode)

Bret Kay

You wanted obscure The Night They Saved Christmas (1984) a bit of an 80s cult classic

Jonathan

Batman Returns 1993 is a Christmas movie!

William Willis

Klaus, Meet Me in St Louis

David Wayne Fox

Lethal Weapon. Everyone hyped of Die Hard as the action Christmas movie, but Lethal Weapon is all about that holly holly baby.

Stuart Arbury

Santa Claus the Movie

GenEx'cellent

My favorite It's a wonderful life.
