Jason and the Argonauts was amazing!

2023-10-02 16:18:27 +0000 UTCMy suggestion is Don Chaffey's 1963 Jason and the Argonauts film, which I think is interesting for the score (composed by Bernard Herrmann who is known for his collaboration with Hitchcock) and the top-notch stop motion special effects (this is peak stop-motion, imo). I also think there are elements in there of healthy, non-toxic masculinity and camaraderie. It's also a great adventure based on a classical tale. Just something to keep in mind. Don Chaffey also directed our main man Shatner in the TV series "T.J. Hooker", so there's a connection for ya! As for voting I went for 12 Angry Men, which I urge you to watch even if you don't end up reacting to it; it's definitely one of the most important films of the 20th century and its message resonates to this day.

2023-10-01 23:12:27 +0000 UTCI had trouble voting, but went with 12 Angry Men. It’s different from your usual fare on the channel, and might be a tad slow for you. I ended up choosing it precisely because it is different.

2023-10-01 03:35:26 +0000 UTCI voted for 12 Angry Men. I'd just love to see you guys react to more classic films, as I'm a classic film fan. If you haven't already seen it, I'd like to recommend both "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946) starring James Stewart and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939) also starring James Stewart. Both films are directed by Frank Capra and I have the feeling you'd really like his films. I'd also like to see you react to some Alfred Hitchcock films, my two favorites being "Dial M For Murder" (1954) starring Ray Milland and Grace Kelly, and "Rear Window" (1954) starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly.

2023-09-29 05:15:38 +0000 UTCAll of these are great choices, except for Legend. Wife and I rewatched it a couple of years ago and it just was not as good as I remembered it. I must have been drunk the first time. But I picked 12 Angry Men because of the different genre, not to mention it's a damn good movie.

2023-09-28 22:42:20 +0000 UTCIf you watch Tombstone, there are tons of Western movies after that. I don't know which ones you would find faced-paced enough for you. I remember liking The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and High Noon which are black and white movies, but I haven't seen either one in decades. Then there is William Shatner's 1968 movie White Comanche which "is listed in Golden Raspberry Award founder John Wilson's book The Official Razzie Movie Guide as one of the 100 Most Enjoyably Bad Movies Ever Made."

2023-09-28 22:41:21 +0000 UTCIf you have never seen My Cousin Vinny, you could watch that after Twelve Angry Men, as that is about the only other popular courtroom movie found on reaction channels.

2023-09-28 22:31:13 +0000 UTCYeah I see what you mean. Love the movie but had never really heard anything about or looked into it's production

2023-09-28 22:29:41 +0000 UTCI think Ed Harris or somebody was almost drowned to death while Cameron was shooting the movie. I've actually never seen the movie. I've just heard all these crazy and dangerous stories about when it was made.

2023-09-28 22:25:58 +0000 UTCTo be honest, for a lot of this kind of stuff, I would prefer you just did a post-watch review or an edited for YouTube reaction) rather than a full length reaction. I mean, I’ve seen “Twelve Angry Men” a few times. And it’s not the kind of thing (like Star Trek or Galactica) for which I’ll be willing to hunt down the stream or even purchase it online or on DVD (like I did for Galactica) just because I want to watch it along with you. I don’t really need to see it again. That’s why I’m not watching the full length “Quantum Leap” reactions. I don’t really want to hunt it down, I saw most of it when it originally aired, and it’s not really something I live enough to re-watch anyway. (Luckily, “Firefly” was easily accessible on streaming.) Also keeping full-length reactions synched up is a pain in the kiester.

2023-09-28 21:05:49 +0000 UTCHoly crap. Apparently Harris punched Cameron! Amongst other things. Spoilers: https://screenrant.com/the-abyss-things-didnt-know-80s-sci-fi-movie/#the-resuscitation-scene-was-grueling

2023-09-28 20:30:14 +0000 UTCThe actor who plays the main character also has a connection to Star Trek (not going to mention any names to avoid spoilers).

2023-09-28 20:24:29 +0000 UTCOh wow. K, interesting. I did a quick general search and immediately saw a headline saying Cameron almost died making it, and another which is one of those "These actors hated working together" type articles 😆. I'll check these out

2023-09-28 20:16:49 +0000 UTCI think there are a lot of crazy stories about any movie which is filmed in the ocean or underwater like Jaws, Waterworld, and Titanic. Those movies also become very expensive very fast which causes there to be a lot of stress on the director, actors, and crew. I think a few people almost died while The Abyss was being made. I think the director James Cameron is blamed for a few things. Apparently the lead actor Ed Harris refuses to talk about the movie in any way.

2023-09-28 20:12:51 +0000 UTC12 Angry Men. I shouldn't have said it doesn't lend itself to being reacted to "at all".. but I liken it to a TOS episode or two where the guys commented that it was challenging to record because it's very talk-y. Tough to react to because you're just trying to pay attention for the most part. I'm sure some good review discussion can be had tho. I'll leave it at that, not trying to crap on anyone's pick
James Bottas
2023-09-28 19:37:54 +0000 UTCWhich one would that be in your view?
Steven Johnson
2023-09-28 19:26:47 +0000 UTCThat made me curious.. what kind of crazy stories? Like, behind the scenes making-of type stories? Drama and/or scandal? Can you point me in the direction of what to look up?
James Bottas
2023-09-28 19:26:21 +0000 UTCWhile I do totally agree those 3 are all great, 2 of them lend themselves to being reaction content very nicely... while 1 of them does not at all...
James Bottas
2023-09-28 19:06:21 +0000 UTC12 Angry Men and Tombstone are great in various ways. You should probably re-watch the Star Trek episode Spectre of the Gun before or after watching Tombstone. Time After Time is neat as it is by Star Trek's Nicholas Meyer, but I don't remember much about it as perhaps I never saw the whole movie. I don't know as much about the other three. I have never seen The Abyss, but there are lots of crazy stories about that movie.

2023-09-28 18:55:30 +0000 UTCSuch a good poll. Hard to choose but went with 12 Angry Men for something different. Suggestions for future polls. Final Countdown and Flight of the Navigator. Both sci-fi movies.

2023-09-28 18:28:08 +0000 UTCAnother fun fact about Time After Time - the great David Warner has a prominent role in it. No spoilers so obviously not saying who but Mr. Warner appears in multiple roles in the Star Trek franchise over the years.

2023-09-28 17:57:02 +0000 UTCPicked Last Starfighter. The only other one on the list I’ve seen is The Abyss, and I don’t think that’s actually a good James Cameron movie. I think it’s actually bad.

2023-09-28 17:16:02 +0000 UTCFelt like I had to vote 12 Angry Men since I proposed it initially and it’s a favourite movie I haven’t seen for ages but I’ve never seen The Last Starfighter…
Andrew Duffy
2023-09-28 16:49:31 +0000 UTCNon-spoilery fun fact: Time After Time was made by Nicholas Meyer, one of the main writers of Star Treks 2, 4, and 6 as well as Director of 2 and 6! For that reason I'm giving it the vote, although there are several of these I'd like y'all to see!

2023-09-28 16:34:32 +0000 UTCNot even a choice. Tombstone all the way!
Stephen Wright
2023-09-28 16:27:47 +0000 UTCI mean, the top three are all bangers. 12 Angry Men, Abyss, and Tombstone. Can't go wrong.
Steven Johnson
2023-09-28 16:17:46 +0000 UTCI would throw in on Tombstone but now I feel like I have to spend my point on merely keeping The Abyss alive for next time... while "reaction channel staple" 12 Angry Men runs away with it... 🙄😂

2023-09-28 16:03:34 +0000 UTC12 Angry Men is one of my favs. Great bottle movie!

2023-09-28 16:00:58 +0000 UTCI'm very happy to see Tombstone on the list and even though for now I'm sticking with The Abyss, I really hope Tombstone can get watched soon. A true story that happened in your own country's not too long ago history, that unlocks an understanding of a TOS episode you don't currently have. Chalk full of badass characters and quotable lines. Maybe just maybe it'll spark some more interest in the genre. And if it doesn't, well now we know. As for The Abyss... it's James Cameron. C'mon everyone. ;)
James Bottas
2023-09-28 15:34:20 +0000 UTCI gotta go with Tombstone. They're all excellent choices, and you can't go wrong with any of them, but knowing the perspectives of both gentlemen on the subject it might make for a very dynamic conversation piece.

2023-09-28 15:07:58 +0000 UTCI mean they weren't into Star Trek either, until they watched it. (cut to cosplaying wrestle battles)

2023-09-28 13:58:38 +0000 UTCThe only one of these I've seen is 12 Angry Men. I watched it myself for the first time about a year and a half ago and it immediately became one of my all time favorites. I have little to no interest in any of the others, so guess which one I voted for.
KatWithAttitude
2023-09-28 13:45:37 +0000 UTCGahhhhh. all good choices, Tombstone is a classic, but so is 12 Angry Men. However, I haven't seen The Last Starfighter in a few decades. That could be postponed for another time, (as a double feature with Flight of the Navigator?? ;) )
