EARLY ACCESS - We FINALLY Watched The Cage | NEW Star Trek fans FIRST TIME REACTION

Robert Butler who directed The Cage died November 3, 2023, at the age of 95. I guess he outlived all the actors in the episode except for some of the minor background actors. He also directed Strange New World, a TV pilot and the third attempt to create a series around a post-apocalyptic future created by Gene Roddenberry.

Ugh. I wanted to write you a message about this funny pattern I found. watching the TOS episodes in airdate order, one wouldn’t notice this. I wrote them in production order and listed the writer and director. I noticed there would be two primary directors for a season and they would alternate. It would be like Joe Pevney, then Lucas, then Pevney, then some different name, then Pevney.

Geoffrey Linehan

Gentlemen, you say you've watched the final bit of the original Star Trek television series. That's not technically correct. The Star Trek blooper reel was cut together by Rodenberry Productions to give them something new (along with "The Cage") to show at conventions in the 1970's to drum up interest in a reboot. Before I saw The Next Generation or Star Trek: The Motion Picture, I saw "The Cage" and "The Star Trek Blooper Reel" at conventions. And while parts of it (and the editing) are corny and silly, there are many moments you owe it to yourself to see. There be chuckles here! https://youtu.be/UpcZVWpCMEI?si=w-S17-fkUcaANM_F

Why did this moment have such a cultural impact 😂 I was 8 years old but vividly remember it

That whole drama from 20 years ago suddenly makes a whole lot more sense if Jessica Simpson is one of those who grew up calling canned chicken, chicken tuna. Speaking of Chicken of the Sea, Grace Lee Whitney - Janice Rand - was apparently the model for their original mermaid.

Is this chicken what I have or is this fish. I know it's tuna, but it says Chicken by the Sea. -- Jessica Simpson, c. 2003

Apparently though chicken tuna is just a colloquial term for canned chicken, there's no actual tuna in it, but it came to be known by some as chicken tuna because canned chicken could be used as a substitute for canned tuna

Dion James Pitman

Ah okay. Thanks for the clarification!

That was the unedited version.

I thought you posted this a couple of weeks ago

I haven't tried chicken tuna, but I eat tuna on a turkey sub. Came from when I saw a listing of sub prices and the last one was "Turkey/ Tuna", so I ordered it. The turkey balances out the tuna and the tuna acts like a seasoned mayo. My favorite sandwich. We call it a turkey tuna or a "Jim" sandwich. Served in finer sandwich shops in the area ;)

Since you mentioned it at the end, there is one episode of TOS you haven't watched! The original pilot version of Where No Man Has Gone Before :) Some scenes were cut to make it into a regular series episode and the intro narration is different. It uses title cards between the acts and a completely different theme song as well. It's an experience!

I was hoping you'd watch this! It was released for the first time in 1986, so you're still in release order ;-)
