One summer (early 90s), when we were home on our own, my brother and I grabbed the ketchup & mustard and went at each other. We were smart enough to do it outside at least. But when our Mom got home she was momentarily panicked that one of the cats had exploded or something. We owned up pretty fast -- admittedly not an easy thing to hide -- and spent the rest of the evening with scrub brushes & soapy water, cleaning the driveway.

I was in a food fight when I was a teen at Boy Scout camp. When the adults came back we got yelled at for the mess and were made to scrape the food off the trees that had gotten hit during the fight. It was great!

oddly as a kid I also enjoyed the smell of gas, but not so much now as an adult
As for Sam, it always has some wiggle room depending on what the story requires but technically it is Sam in his own body, just everyone sees him as the person he leaps into so in this case people would see him has a skinny teenager but he has his own size & strength

The Star Trek shows sure will keep them busy for a while, just think about how many seasons they still have to watch. Plenty of time to mix in QL and still have time for other stuff to try out

After the show was done I think the best summary was probably that he's a bit of a mix of both people. He certainly seems to always inherit some character traits and physical properties from the person he jumps into. And i doubt even Sam ever knew what happened to him exactly each time around

Can you even imagine them doing a show like highway to heaven today? And I'm not even religious, but dsmn I'd love to see characters again that are just truly good. Instead everybody loves stuff like breaking bad where literally everybody is an asshole

This show does have some continuity with Sam’s backstory and Al’s. Rewatching this in reruns, and this one was rerun a lot because the 30 year old bully kid became one of the most famous 30 year old teenagers starring in Beverly Hills 90210, had its advantages because they edited out most of the Michael Jackson sequence. That was just weird. I hope you get a chance to get to later seasons where they do some world building with this.

Also, I expect pretty much the whole reason for the car racing element is because they were still in Rip Off Popular Films mode and they were doing "American Graffiti." At any rate, as nice as Cam's car was, it's still a station wagon and would have been a pretty dorky choice for a racer of the time.
Also, maybe put the Continue with QL question as a poll? I'm pretty confident of the results you'll get. (I'm a strong support myself)

They usually establish Sam retains his own body and all his abilities and strength in each leap, although of course they fudge it now and again when it'll serve the plot.

Which ties into the very common trope in classical science fiction.... Machines can't replace humans. We're always going to have the edge.

Alas, modern writing is way too cynical. It can't dare show a good deep emotion. You notice how any time in modern cinema when things get genuinely serious or emotional someone says something sarcastic or jokey to break the tension? That's not an accident.

Hehe yeah by the end of season 1 it got a bit annoying. However thus season has some of my favorite episodes. I love the one where he helps the nun, snd this one because of the sister. Call me old fashioned but sometimes I like a guy coming to the rescue of a girl in this way. Very beautiful stories from the heart. I wish modern entertainment had more wholesome stories again with characters you can actually look up to...

I definitely prefer the show intro they start using in season 2, around ep 14. Would love to see some more QL reactions in the future fellas!

I always felt the biggest success of the show by far was the fact thst 8n every single episode across all seasons Sam feels like he is the character he left into after just 10 minutes. Every story he leaps into works so naturally even though he's Sam everytime. Scott Bacula managed to always merge Sam and the replaced character just enough to make it work. Really outstanding acting.

Yeah my impression was always that he had a main mission and a side mission

Personally I never felt like the leap trigger was the wrong one. I slways felt they had the main goal right and the rest was just something extra he had to do before leaping, like a side quest.
Oh and no his background is NOT going to be a throwaway thing like on star trek. Sam's background will remain very consistent and things will be referenced again. Sam's life is basically the continuity of the show.
Oh and yes the "Oh boy" will continue. It became the trademark of thr show and you'll find memes and parodies of it everywhere hehe

51:46 Nah, he has to do both. It's just the secondary element isn't always immediately obvious to the characters, or Ziggy/Al.
They did this in the pilot where they thought all he had to do was survive, but in reality he had to survive and save "Samantha." It's a byproduct of not wanting to be too straight lined.
As has been pointed out previously. The first season is a little rocky, because they sincerely weren't sure what exactly they could or couldn't do. So, for example, Al is a constant horny weirdo. They tone that down. We see shades of what Al is more like later on in the previous episode where he really gets into his own personal history with civil rights. It's like Spock smiling in The Cage, only it took them nine episodes to experiment through everything and fine tune it. The byproduct of a somewhat rushed preproduction methinks.

"You know what smell I do like? Gasoline." Okay Rorschach!
You guys had some zingers on this one. LOL.
If you want to try a classic 50s/60s style burger I know two restaurants in Washington state. Dick's Burger Joint. they have a 50s style drive thru/park and pay setup. If you enjoy it, it s a rule, you have to say "I love Dicks."
There's another one near Tacoma, Washington called Burger Ranch with the juke box setup and everything. Get a malt and a burger. We used to go there all the time as kids.
"I'm gonna look him up and see if he's cancelled." I mean he's dead. That's pretty cancelled, right? Can they cancel you after you're dead? Can you imagine being in the afterlife and getting a note that you've been cancelled?
Here in this little town in Oklahoma we have "Brahms" which uses farm fresh beef. Good burgers. There's also a little restaurant down the street that has axe throwing and some damn good food. The owner of that restaurant is now the mayor of the town.
There was one food fight that I heard about that happened at my middle school while I was out sick. That's the closest to the food fight wars I have ever been. The horruh. The horruh.
Abe Lincoln came out with the beard and stove pipe hat is what you're saying? Four score and seven months ago...
You guys should do a Hansen vs Predator reaction special. For Halloween. Or Christmas. Whichever is funnier. Maybe Valentines day next year. I don't know. Easter?
