UNCUT REACTION - Star Trek TAS ep20 - Albatross

Comments

As much as the one voice actor might have sucked at VO work, I actually don't mind so much here because at least it was a different voice for a change. God bless Doohan, Barrett and the rest for making the most of it, but there's only so many ways to change up your voice for different characters. I get they were short on money, but it can still be rough at times. But overall, not a terrible episode, but not great either. They got one more McCoy story in before the end of the show at least. I also like the little bit of dialogue at the end where Kirk is saying he can't wait to get back to starbase. Now sure, they've visited starbases in TOS before, but I think it's a bit different here. TOS S1-3 take place in 2266/67/68, and TAS seasons take place canonically in 2269/70. I'm not sure if it was intended, but my read of that line is that in the near future, their 5 year mission officially comes to an end and they can get some proper R&R.

Cool idea but definitely bad Execution.

Always good to hear a different perspective!

Disagree with the consensus. I think this is one of the best of the animated series. It's got a well-developed story with several plot twists and an interesting alien race with some really cool background mattes depicting the planet. Really good dialogue. "Albatross" is good Star Trek in any incarnation.

Okay, that epissode was boring. I thought for a minute we might at least get a zombie. Thanks for the reaction.

Whoa whoa whoa. The government prosecuting a doctor for misleading the public about a vaccine program? Suspension of disbelief: shattered.

One of my first memories of TAS was the crew being sick and changing color. Although many think Lou Schiemer voiced Demos, I am pretty sure it was not him (I can tell his voice). Lou did, however, voice the guard keeping an eye on McCoy. No credit for Demos is listed in IMDB so maybe they actually did pluck someone off the street or the office.

Mike Rogers

I had to laugh, in that thumbnail it looks like Alex is reaching to pick McCoy's nose

Another meh animated story. I think with this episode and the next one, the producers were either running out of ideas or just did not give a damn. Speaking of them, producer Lou Scheimer did the voice for Demos. They should stay in their lane. Josh, you may be right about how they determined how much filler Enterprise shots to use in these episodes.

Collin Freeman

This episode would definitely benefit from more time, but I think they told an interesting story in the space they have. I also think the alien designs are pretty cool. It's one thing they really took advantage of in TAS.

Bret Kay

So many of these episodes would have made great TOS episodes if they had the time to expand on the story more.

And I don't have anything else to say about this episode other than that it isn't the absolute worst thing you'll ever see. It's just mid.
