EARLY ACCESS - Kirk's Unbelievable Transformation! First Time Watching Star Trek TAS REACTION (Ep13)

Paramount were paid about US$ 28 million by cinema owners to be able to show 'ST-TMP' by December 1979. This is why Paramount weren't as concerned about the budget over-run as not being able to meet the December deadline. Paramount have to take most of the blame for the problems, since they also approved that story, the first special effects company and the unchangeable release date.

The only issue I have with any of the Director's Editions is that some alternate music cues are used, especially the opening credits. I prefer the music on the original 1979 cinema release (as on the original Blu Ray).

Absolutely right about JJ's franchise murder spree! haha

The 2022 update to the Director's Edition of the first Trek film is being said to be EXACTLY how director Robert Wise (of "The Sound of Music" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still" fame) had intended it to be viewed, so I personally recommend that version. That one does indeed reflect the actual script, such as it was ..... and is absolutely amazing - and the pacing is far better than the first theatrical release, which is now described as the "rough cut" without proper editing and special effects (some scenes in the original release actually had NO special effects, such as the planet Vulcan's sky - all black with no stars. The studio legally guaranteed a Dec. 7, 1979 release date and would not change it even with the movie not finished - but the 2022 cut IS THE FINISHED PROJECT as originally intended.

Someone else may have mentioned it already, but the Director's Edition of TMP is far superior to the theatrical cut. https://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Picture-Directors-Remastered/dp/B000S95KTY/

You are going to experience severe whiplash moving from TAS to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which was the 3rd most expensive film yet made at the time of its release. US$ 24 million just for the special effects alone. US$ 47 million in total costs. I'd advise a couple of stiff drinks before watching it.....and maybe gather as many cushions and pillows on your sofa as possible.
