UNCUT REACTION - Star Trek TAS ep10 - Mudd's Passion

Comments

TOS (and TASs) Sex Scoreboard Mudd wrestling but Harry is still not in the mood because of Stella. Kirk 12 Chekov 4 Spock 4 Bones 4 new +1 Scottie 2 new +1 Uhura 1 Extras: M’Ress +1 random red skirt +1 Transporter duo +1 We thought we’d get a Chapel – Spock two finger tango, but no. Not true on the enterprise. Bones and a hook up using the pivoting medical table I am sure. AND a big caber toss for Scottie and M’Ress. Yes it counts (though creepy). Evidence is clear. They flirt, get close, move to off screen, come back and Scotty is tired. Then to give even more proof, a little while later Scotty says he does not really like her that much. Of course we also almost interrupted a full blown rompfest in the transporter room. There was some clothes about to fly off, and some beaming was in motion.

Easily one of the most entertaining episodes of TAS. I'm glad they brought Roger Carmel back rather than cheaping out and getting Doohan to cover the role. It doesn't feel too dumbed down either, the writing is pretty in line with the TOS Mudd episodes. Chapel's infatuation with Spock has to be the most revisited plot thread in both shows. Felt bad for her when Spock shut her down after she gave him a compliment. I guess at least now she has a preview of what she's missing, though that's probably worse than not knowing if she won't have it again. It's always fun in Trek when the whole crew gets affected by something that makes them act out of character. I was laughing when M'Ress started flirting with Scotty though, because the first thought I had was "oh no, she's going to turn him into a furry"🤣. This would also count as the first appearance of rock monsters in trek, at least of the kind originally planned for ST:V and later on used in Galaxy Quest. Though I suppose the Horta was a rock monster of sorts. And if everything else in this episode wasn't crazy enough, Kirk was demoted to redshirt for a few frames 21 minutes in.

well you'll get more harry in strange new worlds but you willl hardly recognize what they did to him

You can't get too much Harry

You know, my memory was fuzzy on that. The voice for Mudd sounded right on the money. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVuA_UOef8I

Steven Johnson

Stephen Kandel, the oldest living original series writer at 97.

Another actor had to have done Harry Mudd's voice, unless they used older voice recordings. Roger C. Carmel died in 1986.

Roland Khorshidianzadeh

The actor does return as Mudd one last time in the 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites point and click adventure games. (Along with the entire original cast, AND William Campbell as Trelane.) That's the last time we have the entire OG cast "together" before we lost Deforest Kelley. This is a solid one. This one really does feel like the original series, and when you consider some of the subject matter, quite shocking for a "children's show" references to sexual attraction, hang overs, drinking, etc.. Not the edgiest ever, but still pushing some limits and not watering it down for the kiddos. One of the main strengths of TAS. 10 episodes in, dudes. "Whoa-ohh, we're halfway there!"

That cutaway to the two crew members dancing away to some lounge music was hysterical

Harry shows up in a Discovery short episode called "Short Trek', played by Rainn Wilson. That episode was the only Discovery related thing I thought was remotely watchable. He was also in a full length episode of Discovery, but it was stupid af.

Edweirdo

I think Harry comes back played by a different actor in one of the later series. This series does little for me but I do like how they always work in some aspects of the original show.

Thanks for a fun reaction to a fun episode. I just can't get enough of Harry Mudd.

Gary Leyh

From what I remember TNG writers were working on a Harry Mudd episode called Deep Mudd. Development ended when Roger C. Carmel sadly passed away.

Harry Mudd's the best!
