UNCUT REACTION - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Prophecy Girl S1E12

We have reached the end of season 1!

Here is our full uncut reaction to Prophecy Girl the season 1 finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

We have had fun with this season, although we didn't love every episode it was still a good time. We discuss at the end about continuing the show and that it will be up to how these videos perform on YouTube & whether you, the Patrons, want to see more.

Next up on our plate is Star Trek TAS, the Star Trek movies, and then starting Star Trek TNG. We will be watching a series during the time we watch the Star Trek movies (poll will be up on Patreon this week), but it will be a show with a shorter season. Every season of Buffy moving forward is 22 episodes, so if we watch season 2 it would most likely be later this year after the first season of Star Trek TNG.

If you are a Patron solely for Buffy content, then we understand if the Patreon isn't for you until if/when we get back to watching this show, but we appreciate you taking this journey through the first season with us!

Thank you for being a Patron & enjoy!

I started watching for star trek but became a patreon for the buffy star trek combo. My 2 favorites in one place!

Elana Resnick

Im here for Buffy so i hope you continue it.

Alyssa Dyson

I became a patron in the hope that you will continue watching Buffy. I enjoy your reactions and would love to see them in response to this great (and surprising) series.

Mateo Latosa

I'd love for you to continue both Buffy and The Walking Dead and would be fine with paying more a month and having it as a Patreon Exclusive so you wouldn't have to take the time to edit the videos.

I now try to think about the early episodes of season 2 and how good they actually are, the show definitely kicks ass by the season's midpoint but I kinda worry about me cringing through some other mediocre episodes where the guys look not that impressed and I'm thinking "It gets better, I swear!", there are 2 or 3 episodes that are kinda season oney I think.

I think if you do watch season 2 later and still feel "meh," then you'll certainly have given it a fair shot. But as everyone else says, it really gets rolling in season 2.

We are strict about release order. We will be watching the first 4 movies then starting TNG

Buffy wasn't paralyzed with fear when she first faced the Master, he has powers of hypnosis that froze her in place. As for why she was stronger after she came back, that's not really clear, but she was still wearing her crucifix and not being burned by it, so her being a vampire is out. The fight choreography is one thing that improves *massively* in season 2 onward. They just didn't have the budget for it here, especially after creating the demon emerging from the hellmouth, so Buffy's second round with the Master was just "I can break through your hypnosis now; get wrecked". I do hope you give season 2 a chance, or at least the first half to see how the youtube numbers do, since a lot people just really don't care about season 1. I'd recommend using season 2 episode 3 as your estimate for how the show will perform on youtube in general for season 2.5 onward. Re: Star Trek. You say you're doing TAS, then the movies, then TNG. How strict do you plan to be about release order? There are 6 original series movies, but TNG started airing between movies 4 and 5. Movie 5 came out I think around season 3 of TNG, and movie 6 came out around season 5.

"There's gotta be more!" Yeah, there's 6 more seasons. lol Thanks for being "generous" I guess? I subbed for Buffy and I'll be back if you do S2. Hopefully, you'll start to mesh with the show. Good luck with your channels.

I wasn't keen when you started this but by the end I would be happy to have some more seasons. Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for watching S1. It was certainly worth my money and I hope it was worth your time. I know there was skepticism and I appreciate the open minds you brought even though the fandom is quite close-minded about the first season (with good reason - we're grading on a curve). I wholeheartedly recommend eventually watching S2/3. The WB signed Joss to 44 more episodes and you'll see the roots of today's TV/streaming environment unfold as he blends monsters-of-the-week with heavy serialization. The fandom will say the show starts in S2; however, we tend to disagree on which episode it actually "starts". Be prepared for a lot of "Welcome to Buffy" comments when the fan's particular episode is uploaded.

There are multiple references to TOS as well as TNG through the series (some subtle, some overt). A couple of years ago I saw a compilation video on YouTube of all the Trek references and it had a few that I had totally missed on previous viewings of Buffy. I do hope the TA continues with BTVS, because it's a hell of a ride!

Totally agree that the first season is meh, that's actually pretty spot on. But when it comes to the show as a whole remember that it's still popular 25 years later, it has stood the test of time. That wouldn't be the case if it didn't improve significantly because while nostalgia helps no one would have Buffy as their favorite show if it was season 1 quality throughout. ;) As for why they wrapped everything up and there are no hooks for anything really, the entire first season was filmed before it premiered on tv, they had literally no idea how they would be perceived and if there was a chance for renewal.

Xander made a Star Trek: Next Generation reference in the library. It was in the past in 1997 but it's in your future in 2023.
