I’ve met him. Nice guy.

Actor David Frankham who played Larry Marvick is also apparently still alive; he turns 97 tomorrow on February 16, 1926.

Director Ralph Senensky is stated as currently the oldest living production staff member who worked on Star Trek; he will turn 100 on May 1, 2023.

Jean Lisette Aroeste (1932-2020), a University of California librarian, was one of four writers with no prior television writing credits (David Gerrold, Judy Burns and Joyce Muskat were the other three) to sell scripts to 1960s Star Trek.

There some on ebay for as little as $24.99 :D

Jean Lisette Aroeste writes one more later in the season, which is also an excellent episode. Next up; the Enterprise takes a wrong turn at the signpost up ahead and winds up in the Twilight Zone. Or maybe it's the Treklight Zone.

Roddenberry wanted Nimoy to wear the pendant on a regular basis during the season as advertising, enraging the actor.

"After viewing the rushes, co-producer Robert H. Justman walked out of the screening room saying, 'I wonder how she looks in a red wig', jokingly referring to another possible appearance by Muldaur in a potential fourth season." I think most non-Trek fans know her from a memorable scene from the 1980s show L.A. Law.

So well written. The setup for the reveal about Miranda was incredible.

It’s definitely odd but I won’t lie….. I’d buy one

IDIC: Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.

The IDIC pendant is probably this episode's only blight. It was a marketing ploy by Roddenberry (who had withdrawn from day to day duties on the show, but was selling memorabilia through his new company Lincoln Enterprises) who wanted it on screen so he could sell them by mail. Leonard Nimoy was offended by the blatant money grab, so demanded they rewrite the scene to make it less obvious. The dialogue remains a little stilted whenever the pendant is brought up.

I always loved the twist with her being blind. Really well done.

I've always liked one. Big chunks of it are kind of like a fever dream, but it fits the plot. The next episode also has fever dream moments. You won't see Diana Muldaur again until Season 2 of TNG. She'll play a sort of a female version of Dr. McCoy.
