I love your Star Trek videos and I'm so excited that you're watching Buffy now! One of my favorite shows of all time.

The characters also deepen and grow out of their initial cliched stereotypes.

Even though Buffy is specifically a vampire slayer, the show features a wide variety of monsters and villains (zombies, witches, demons, etc.) and not just vampires. This helps to keep the show from getting monotonous. Also, like Firefly, the show has both stand-alone episodes and ones that advance season-long story arcs.

Buffy the movie was quite a bit different in tone than the TV series. If the series is any indication, I can see why Josh was upset. The movie is okay, but more comedic, less serious.

Collin Freeman

I was speaking just of the pilot we watched, like I said I’m sure it evolved as the show went on

If this was the kind of show to watch with your brain turned off as you said, it wouldn’t be a Joss Whedon show and it wouldn’t have this enduring popularity. It’s not mindless fun. I don’t know if it’s still true but at one point it held the record for the number of academic studies.

To be continued... You gotta at least do the next episode.

Season 1 was extremely low budget because the network had no money at the time and the pitch of remaking a 5 year old movie that bombed did not bring much confidence, but you do see the better than average writing for teen shows in the mid 90s

Jonathan

Season 1 is somewhat different from the rest of the show. Mainly, it has way more 90s campiness than the later seasons. It's still good when you're in the mood for that though. Buffy really finds its footing in season 2, and you start seeing more of that familiar Whedon style you talked about.

Jeff Cornell

This is great! One of my favorite shows of all time. Much better than Charmed or Supernatural. Buffy is awesome! You have to watch the whole series.
