It’s all about choosing the right colors, and making sure you blend them properly! That sounds easier said than done, but in this video, I’ll show you exactly how you can do that ✨

MONTHLY CHALLENGE // brushstroke master study

It’s time to dive back into master studies! This month, we will be studying the expressive brushstrokes of a few painting masterpieces. These artists were incredible at creating rich and realistic detail from just a few expressive brush strokes, and there’s so much we can learn from that. That’s why the reference images consist of close-ups from paintings: that way we can really see the individual lines and strokes that created their beautiful work. Let’s learn from these paintings an...

EARLY ACCESS // iridescence

This month's challenge was on studying iridescence! This challenge was about capturing shimmering, rainbow-like color, which is a great exercise for better understanding color transitions and conveying different types of surfaces. It's a very 'painterly' challenge which is why I think it's so valuable to study! It was also a great excuse for me to draw one of my favorite animals: the pigeon. My tiktok feed...

EARLY ACCESS // Iceland studies

Last week, I went to Iceland for a short one-week trip! It truly exceeded all my expectations. I was staying in the capital city (Reykjavik) and doing some smaller day trips, so I didn’t think I would be seeing such stunning scenery. Boy, was I wrong! The thing I learned about Iceland is that everything is beautiful - as soon as you get out of the city, you’re in stunning wilderness. There’s also a kind of strangeness about it, like you’re on a different planet.

TUTORIAL // drawing a stylized portrait in Procreate

Every now and then, I add an older tutorial to my shop so they can be purchased individually. This tutorial is from 2023 and it's about how you can draw a stylized portrait in Procreate! Basically, it's about how you can analyze a reference picture and build up your portrait in a way that diverts from realism - from initial sketch to final rendering. It also runs you through my Procreate workflow, from brush sets to how I organize my layers.

Key lessons include:

PROCESS VIDEO // flower - phone recording

When painting, I usually record snippets of it with my iPhone so that I can make reels and tiktok videos out of it! It’s not the full process from beginning to end, but a few snippets throughout. If you want to watch the full uninterrupted process video, check out the feed - I just posted Part 1 and Part 2 of that!

PROCESS VIDEO // flower - part 1

This month, I decided to put together the process video for my Flower painting! I think it’s a great example of how I layer on color transitions and soft edges very gradually - and a good companion process video to this month’s tutorial, which is about soft blending.

EARLY ACCESS // flower

After doing some darker chromatic aberration studies, I wanted to paint something that was a bit brighter and had more of an iridescent feel - once again starting from a older sketch from my sketchbook. I really enjoyed painting this one - I’ll never tire of pink and blue as a color combination!

EARLY ACCESS // glow

You may have spotted one of these sketches in my most recent tutorial on soft blending! I wanted to build further on the chromatic aberration studies I did last month, so I took some sketches from my sketchbook and added some color to them. I’m having so much fun with these kinds of saturated colors and slightly spooky rendering style. Hope you like it!

EARLY ACCESS // tension studies

This month's challenge was on capturing tension in a pose! It was all about capturing the look of fully tensed muscles, including the tendons and veins that show when this happens. It was really far outside of my comfort zone, since I usually gravitate towards soft and flowy poses. That's why it was really good to practice, even though it took a while for me to land on a rendering style that worked...
