PATREON EXCLUSIVE UNCUT REACTION - Whiplash (2014) - Our Favorite Movies #2

With Damien Chazelle's newest film Babylon releasing this past weekend, we thought it would be a good time to rewatch his first studio movie Whiplash

Whiplash won several awards when it released, including J.K. Simmons getting the Academy Award for his supporting role. His performance, as well as the ideology of his character in the film, is one of our favorite discussion points about this movie.

We both have seen the film once before, and agreed it would be a great inclusion for the 'Our Favorite Movies' series which is exclusive for you all here on Patreon!

If you have somewhere you are able to watch this one online, make sure to comment it below to help out other Patrons!

Would love to hear your thoughts on this movie!

Thank you for being a Patron & enjoy!

I enjoyed rewatching this with you. I hadn’t seen it since it first came out. I did pick up on more this time. I always saw it as Fletcher dissatisfied with his level of fame. He may be a big shot as a teacher at that school but he isn’t playing Lincoln Center either which he takes out his failure on everyone else hoping one of them will lead him to greatness. This leaves a lot open to interpretation especially since it is based on Damien’s bad experience trying to get into music at school before focusing on film making. Paul Reiser starred in one of my favorite 90s comedy’s Mad About You. You should check out an episode or two when you are looking for a laugh. Since I have some more time in the winter I usually try to watch more critically acclaimed movies leading up to the Oscars. This was a good start to my 2023 list.

Thanks Jonathan! We know in the US it is also free (with ads) on YouTube

The the US it is currently on Tubi but you have to deal with commercials. January 1 it is leaving Tubi and moving to Showtime.
