Agreed - this is definitely the best Kirk vs. Computer episode. I think the guy playing Dr. Daystrom really made this episode.

Doohan did a lot of voice work over the years. He was a pretty good voice actor.

I think this is the best of the Kirk vs computer episodes, mainly from the interplay between the characters and the actors portraying them. Also, the stakes of the Enterprise vs the 4 other starships gives it more gravitas to me.

God I hate when they do that. In Europe they do that A LOT. I saw so many TNG and other show episodes getting cut down to almost nothing, just to fit another commercial break. Disgusting. That's one of the reasons I haven't had cable TV in at least 20 years. It's pointless

I think Spock was fascinated by the technological achievement but at the same time Spock would not consider any computer superior to a human captain. Not in a million years. He always respected Kirk's command ability. Spock is not the type of character that would have considered this even for a split second, no matter how much McCoy might tease him about it. Spock knows that computers can be great tools but don't inspire trust, loyalty or friendship. All things that Spock values deeply.

Funny how Kirk gambled on Wesley's so called humanity after being called useless by him earlier. There weren't many episodes that had their own music score due to budget and other factors. Each season pretty much had its own library of scores to reuse. 3rd season will have some new scores with little reused from the first two seasons.

DAMN! I miss the live stream! Shit! Well anyway, I wanted to point out that the voice that you hear at the very beginning of the episode of the Commodore whose line is something like “the explanation is beaming aboard your transporter room right now “is the voice of none other than James Doohan. And it is the only time in the series where are you will hear his natural voice without accent or affectation. Go back and listen to it again. That’s what he sounded like when he was screaming at you for asking dumb questions at conventions. He was also, of course, the voice of the M5 computer. And a couple of other voices in this episode, too. I’m looking forward to watching this with you later on today.

I like how McCoy is more on Kirk's side than Spock at the beginning of the episode. Often Kirk follows Spock's advice more.

I want Bones imprinted on a computer too. That's my favorite line of the episode. Regarding Spock's dialogue, I saw this on facebook and it sort of fits in with this episode: tinyurl.com/3z55a83t

I like this one, particularly the parts where Kirk is getting more desperate when he finds there's nothing he can do to stop the attack on the other ships. But agreed, the final resolution is too abrupt.

An interesting point, I think. Because these were made in the 60's they were 50 minutes. But when they were re-aired in syndication in the 70's and later, they had to edit out parts to allow for more commercials. A lot of times, the really good dialog was cut out. There are scenes in this episode I totally don't remember because I may have never seen them.
