Tear the pages from the symbol and they turn to paper. Push down the statue and guess what? They put it right back up same as you put the pages back in the bible. The inconsistencies don't matter, the narrative built from them does. Losing your virginity doesn't do anything, it's just a symbol. And symbols matter.

It ties in PERFECTLY with the Jayne Myth. Jayne is learning the same lesson as River when they both say “it doesn’t make sense.”
