A bit of Trivia for you guys, I'm pretty sure you did not recognize the voice of Lucifer at the end of this one since you said nothing about it. So I guess you have never seen the original Lost in Space T.V. show from 1965-68. The voice is Jonathan Harris also known as Dr. Zachary Smith on the whole series (see my profile pic). He has the perfect voice for Baltars IL Series Cylon Sidekick.

Sure but they did the take where Baltar reacted to being beheaded

Check out this behind-the-scenes footage of Muffet played by Evie the chimp on Youtube, starting at around 19:30. https://youtu.be/wMAhz5rUjQg

John Dykstra, one of the producers of this pilot, was in charge of special effects on Star Wars, so good deduction. The opening casino scene gives me Studio 54 vibes from the 70's. Nerd trivia: Reggie Nalder, the actor playing casino croupier to Starbuck in the beginning of this episode also played the Andorian ambassador Shras in the Star Trek episode, "Journey to Babel".

Collin Freeman

Apollo becomes more likable after the pilot movie. He’s still a goody-two-shoes, but not so much of a stick-in-the-mud. The show as a whole really hits its stride about halfway through. And it wasn’t a kids’ show… it was trying to capture the whole-family audience that Star Wars appealed to. (Now, the sequel Galactica 1980 was much more kid-oriented, due to its earlier time slot and network interference… but still managed to have one good episode.)

In fact, they didn't even have to reshoot the scene. They just reversed the film so the Cylon took his sword halfway out and then put it back in.

Thank you!

There are a few episodes which are great but just like Star Trek if you continue there are also a few stinker episodes too as well as down right silly. This was because their target audience for the series were children and young teens more than directed towards an adult audience. If you do decide to move on then I suggest switching to the 2000s mini-series and follow up series so you can see what's different and similar and it is a much more adult oriented and serious show comparedly. Also another series you guys may want to consider as well as more modern is Farscape which like the original Star Wars trilogy utilizes puppets from the Jim Henson company under the control of his brother Brian Henson.

The original movie version which I have also but on VHS had the scene where they didn't stop the beheading of Baltar but rather cut the scene by quickly moving the camera away while the sword cut off his head. When they decided to make the series that same shot was refilmed having the Cylon stop midway of taking out his sword and the imperious leader saying to take him for public execution. Obviously they removed him from the Basestar that was destroyed and taken away from the Caralon system to the Cylon homeworld.

Brad Barter

That would be a logical next step after this series is finished to continue with.

I got lucky with synchronicity and picked the correct scene of my movie to where the episode *actually started*. Going forward I believe the multiple part episodes are no longer joined up on my dvd copy.

I think I may have to depart from the Battlestar Galactica journey after this episode, my dudes. I just don't think the scripts and acting are very good. A product of its time, I get it. I do appreciate the hard work you're putting into your channel, though, so thank you for that. You'll still see my mug pop up for Star Trek and Firefly. 👍

Lin Phillips

Dudes, the reboot is a thousand times better!

Tom Occhipinti

Originally it was aired in three parts, then they cut it down to 2 hours to put in theaters. There's a few bits here and there that are different (lines, cuts) but nothing major. They were trying to recoup some of the money they sank into filming the pilot with box office ticket sales. The opening credits change after this to their standard TV format, so they won't be as long going forward. :D

If the quality of the episodes are around the level as this one and the first part then I think it will be pretty enjoyable, but we shall see!

Josh (Target Audience)

I haven't watched it since it originally aired - it has not aged as well as I had hoped. I do remember some episodes fondly - I think it gets better but my thoughts are colored by the memories of a 12 year old.
