I'm looking into recording more full processes and sharing them here! So as a start, I thought I'd get into painting and talking at the same time a little more :) I feel it would become incredibly dry and repetitive if I were to just explain the technicalities of what's happening on screen all the time, so one of my goals is to also mix things up and talk about a little more than just that.
Feel free to check out the video and let me know what you think! As always, I'm incredibly gratef...

Remember I mentioned a couple months back that I was going to sketch a lot more? The schedule hasn't let up so I haven't had the time to really get into it... Still I'd like to show some sketches I've done so far! I've been sitting on these for a while hoping I'd get more time to start coloring them up (I think I will soon!) but I thought now would be a nice time to share them anyway :)
As always, I'd love to hear what you think, and thank you kindly for your support ♥

Hey everyone, the process walkthrough is up for this set! It's quite a bit of new territory that I've covered in this series, so feel free to listen in on how challenging it was :) As always, these are as much a sharing and instructional video as they are open calls for questions, so if you have any regardless, please feel free to ask it below!
Additionally, if you've happened to send me a DM regarding any drawing question, feel free to comment below to remind me as well, I know I can ...

It's been a little bit since the last set! These are as challenging as always - picking and creating an interesting story, finding a good composition for the opening frame, and balancing things so they flow reasonably.
This time I went with something I've actually never really done before - having characters emote strongly with their facial expressions and body language! I know the characters I draw are almost always incredibly stoic, but honestly that was just because I couldn't reall...

It was fun to create an alternate design for her after all this time!
As a figure design there were some considerations to try and make things a little more flowy, hence the larger coat and let down hair! And to contrast the heavier coat, I thought a more form fitting outfit might work well :) It's an honor (and really cool) to see something that just started as a drawing years ago become physical! Let me know if you guys want to see more photos and what you think.
Thank you so muc...

Just like for the other process walkthrough this month, my voice couldn't quite make it so we're back to the old format just for a bit! I think it's nice that it's more digestible for those who might not have the time for the longer video explanations so there's a little bit of silver lining :)
For this piece my struggle was really on getting the cloth folds right, so much so that it prompted me to make a quick guide...

A special rare goody this month just for you guys :)
Clothing and fabric folds have always been a huge pain for me so I thought it might be good to get two birds with one stone this time and make a bit of a concept or revision sheet for you guys (and myself too)!
Just a couple of notes I couldn't quite fit into the sheet itself -
Think of the density of cloth folds as a zero sum game (almost) - usually when a certain area is very foldy and bunched up, it means other ...

The process steps are up (and very promptly this time)!
We're temporarily reverting back to the format of yore for this month as my throat is still pretty inflamed from flu:( It went away and came back once already so I'm being a little careful, fingers crossed). This piece really went through a wild ride of lighting and composition setups because I really couldn't find the right mood until the very end!
As always, thank you so much for your support and patience, and the comments a...

Ding ding ding *new character time*!
It's been a while since I had this much fun (maybe it was really high time for a new character)!
Something about being free from design constraints, self imposed as they might have been, has quite the healing effect. Drawing the motorcycle was really fun, but horrifying daunting at first until I realized I didn't actually need to draw that much of it :) I've uploaded the process steps together with the piece this time too. A fun set of poses I found and wanted to give it a go painting! This time the color palette is really simple, which is a nice change of pace :) Cloth folds are still a weakness of mine so I'd like to make a video really consolidating what I've learnt this time (hint: it's quite a bit, but still not enough) - so please look forward to that!
As always, thank you so much for the kind support here and more works to come soon!

The process breakdown is up! It was a tough set this time, so there are plenty of lessons learnt and a lot of build on. The more "surreal" setup of setting and lighting this time compared to my usual stuff definitely brought me out of the comfort zone to say the least and made the process one of significant frustration... There are plenty of areas to improve as well, with perspective being as important as ever. Still, it was a good experience!
As always, I would love to hear any questio...

A new set! This one really went through a lot of back and forth between different ideas trying to get them to fit together as well as I can! It ended up taking quite a bit longer than I expected, and some unfamiliar elements were not easy to manage. Ultimately I decided to have the location be the main connecting factor here. As always, I'd love to know what you think, so please tell me below :)
The process breakdown video will be up very soon as well! Thank you as always for your kind ...

Hey everyone, if you recall, Part 1 of my basic character illustration course with Coloso launched at the beginning of this year (time really flies...) - and now Part 2 focusing on basics of character design is out :) The above are some of the drawings done via the class! It's a lot more of a long form format compared to the more free flow content here, so if you're interested in checking it out (and there is no pressure...

The process breakdown for the latest works are up! I've prepared a bit more of a detailed process steps sheet this time (8/9 steps vs the usual 6!) Since I've struggled a little bit with these pieces, I did some critique and analysis for this video as well! I'm started a daily sketching schedule, so I'll start sharing those here soon too - (maybe once a week by batch?)
As always, I'd love to hear any of your questions in the comments :) Thank you so much for your support as always ♥ I...

It's been a while since I've been able to draw these two with everything that has been going on, so it's really good to be back :) Thank you all for being so patient and supportive!
It's a nice feeling when as you work on each drawing, you feel that one you're currently working on is surpassing the other, and that you get to go back and forth with this feeling for the duration of the work. I think it's a sign that I was able to really enjoy the process and paint what I wanted to. It's ...

The second live paint video for the month (First one here)! Just showcasing my natural painting process while trying (my best) to commentate as I think. It's a lot harder than working with a more structured tutorial or recapping a process walkthrough, so I'd love to hear your feedback, even more so than usual!
Thank you so much as always for your kind support here, it means the world! And I'll see you very soon ...

Trying out a new format of video to spice things up just a little! This time we're live painting works that are not yet finished - I think it feels really different to commentate and paint working on something that is still in progress versus going back to analyze a finished piece. I think they each have their pros so I wanted to try this style for a little bit!
I really want to know what you think about this format and if you've got any feedback - for example, would you like something...

The event is finally done and dusted! I've had the best time speaking to everyone who came and liked my work - given it's Osaka (as compared to Tokyo) and at a ticketed venue, there were surprisingly many people who knew me and had come! It's at these times that I both feel a sense of happiness, but also anxiety about needing to get even better. (It's mostly great though!)
My favorite part, aside from being able to talk to some of you guys, has to be the behind the scenes stuff. It's re...

Thank you so much for all your kind comments and support recently regarding this set and OIA.
Tomorrow is the last day of the event, and these artworks have just been listed for sale here.

The final of 5 pieces going to OIA next week! I'm really looking forward to seeing it printed out in real life :)
If it looks a bit familiar, it's because I decided on remastering an original piece rather than creating a new one for the final slot. I was already 60% done with the initial candidate when I really considered what I should bring to the event. (I'll share that with you guys soon too!)

The third and fourth pieces of the set, these felt surprisingly relaxing given the intensity of the previous two! The goal here was to almost avoid my usual lighting style so we can make the composition a bit more print-friendly, so I ended up fighting with my instincts towards the end a little!

The second and also really hard piece of the set to draw, this one also took quite a bit! I had warmed up a lot from the first piece, but I was also fatigued by it... 😂This time I was able to keep the explanation to 20 minutes though :)

The first and toughest of the set to draw, this one probably took over a month of drawing everyday! At the very beginning of the video I said I'd keep it to about 20 minutes, but it seems my explanations turned out just as long winded as the drawing itself 😂...

The 4th of 5 works! This almost about concludes the reveal (there's a bit of a surprise on the last one!) of the artworks going out to my first major art fair next week. I'd like to write a little about how I've prepared the whole thing so feel free to read along!
Art fairs are a sort of event that most of us regular internet people don't really come into contact much, or at all for that matter. When you think of fine art and stuff that's pretty hard to understand, that's the main kind...

The third of five artworks in the series I'm bringing to the art fair! Things have taking a slightly more abstract and fantastical turn here, and I'm not too dissatisfied with the results!
As with before, the consideration is to create something that looks as good as possible printed at a fairly large size, so I went with a main character that is "easy to print", with bright whites taking up the main p...

A tribute of sorts to everyone who creates through art (kind of!). It was an interesting concept that I had a lot of fun painting, but quickly it felt pretty overwhelming to have to draw such an expansive scene in sufficient detail. The line between carefully referencing real buildings and just drawing freely started to blur given the time constraints, and ultimately I think the result isn't too...

This already took so long, but somehow I feel like it could do with just even a bit more detail...
This is probably the highest resolution piece I've ever drawn so far! But we will be printing it for an upcoming art fair in May at A0 size, so I had to do it. Speaking of which, I'll be in Osaka at the Osaka International Art 2025 art fair with this + 4 other brand new works! So if you're in town from 31st May to 1st June, feel free to come to the Osaka Jo Hall - I look forward to seeing...
