Event Horizon is interesting....a combination of sci fi and horror

Deborah Osika

We watched this a few months ago, it’s on our YouTube channel

Josh (Target Audience)

Groundbreaking film and still really entertaining.

James H

Has anyone mentioned Forbidden Planet (1956)? It was one of the main inspirations for Star Trek and runs 98 minutes.

James H

Also, The Day the Earth Stood Still was Gene Roddenberry’s favorite movie.

Rich Cirivilleri

Also they were both made at Desilu.

Rob

After watching your last Star Trek reaction if you never did watch It I would say Mission Impossible 1 with Tom Cruise. It’s 104 minutes till end credits. Those two franchises were linked way before JJ Abrams. The original Mission Impossible series was presented with Star Trek by Lucille Ball as her two drama series pitches. Also Leonard Nimoy moved to the cast of Mission Impossible after Star Trek ended.

Jonathan

Dr. Strangelove 1964 - amazing characters(writing), acting, and direction. If not I'm with Paul C. above - Dark City 1998 - just creepy good - similar to Matrix but before the Matrix.

Ricky Johnson

escape from NY 99 minutes

Prof Moff

Yeah omega man and soylent green both opposite concepts yet same great star too bad Rollerball is too long but trust me you'd love it

Sherman Lin

"The Omega Man" 1971 98 minutes

PFCoffey

"Dark City" 1998 100 minutes run time.

PFCoffey

"King Kong" 1933 clocks in at 100 minutes exactly.

Rob

Speaking of John Carpenter, how about "Dark Star"? Written by Dan O'Bannon, who went on to do the screenplay for a little movie called "Alien".

Rob

The original 1951 version of "The Thing From Another World" runs 87 minutes. I think you would enjoy seeing how it compares to John Carpenter's remake.

Rob

If they do Buck Rogers, I think it ought to be as the whole series (or at least season one, before they lost their writers).

Nerd's Gold

Run Lola Run (1998): 80 minutes - in German with subtitles

Dion James Pitman

Yup. I think these guys would like the delivery of the dialogue.

Michael Nemo

I love Rope! Those great long takes and one set. It's like watching a great stage play. Hitchcock is brilliant.

Gary Leyh

Crawl from 2019. 87 minutes. Surprisingly good for a low budget creature feature.

Gary Leyh

The Last Starfighter (1984) is exactly 100 minutes.

Nerd's Gold

Legend (1985): 89 minutes US cut

Andreas Schmitt

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein 83mins, Blazing Saddles 93 mins, Invaders From Mars 1953 83 mins,

Ken R

Sully: 96 minutes

Andreas Schmitt

Cool Runnings: 98 minutes

Andreas Schmitt

Tremors: 96 minutes

I was going to suggest switching it up with a comedy, but my choice was The In-Laws (1979) and it clocks in at 103 minutes, although I bet at least 5 minutes of that is credits. I also like the Airplane and Princess Bride suggestions. Airplane II has William Shatner in it, but it's not as good as the first Airplane movie. Dr Strangelove is a classic - don't know if black&white is a turnoff for you or not, but it was made in 1964.

Collin Freeman

Looking at the list of suggested films by my colleagues above, I agree with: **Doctor Strangelove **Monty Python & the Holy Grail **The Princess Bride **Airplane **The Day the Earth Stood Still . I would also ADD: **Predestination (2014) (93 min) (a great time-travel film with Ethan Hawke, based on Robert Heinlein's most famous short story, "All You Zombies --".) **Fantastic Planet (1973) (71 minutes) (a weird French animated science-fiction film, also available dubbed in English) **Gandahar (also called "Light Years" in English) (1987) (79 minutes) (Another French animated science-fiction film, with a great voice cast in its English translation) **Zardoz (1974) (102 minutes, so maybe too long for you), a post-apocalyptic, trippy film involving immortality, artificial intelligence, and nearly everything else. Stars Sean Connery and Charlotte Rampling) **Fantastic Voyage (1966) (100 minutes) adaptation of Isaac Asimov's short science-fiction novel of the same name. Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Donald Pleasance) **Conspiracy (2001)(96 minutes) (NOT science fiction; dramatization of an actual historical event, the notorious Wannsee Conference of 1942. Kenneth Branagh, Stanley Tucci, Colin Firth, Ian McNeice, and an almost-too-quick-to-catch moment with a very young Tom Hiddleston) **The Producers (1967)(88 minutes) (ALSO not science fiction; Mel Brooks's absurdist comedy involving Nazis, Broadway, and fraud, starring Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, and Kenneth Mars). . ...I can think of a whole bunch of wonderful, mind-blowing films that are 5 or 10 or 15 minutes too long for your purposes...

Ken Schneyer

If you want to do more sci-fi I think you would like The Final Countdown it’s 102 but some of that is credits.

Jonathan

STARCRASH (1979 92 min.) is the most ridiculous Star Wars rip-off ever, IMO. Laugh out loud special effects, dialogue, acting and story. Light years from from works like Star Wars, Alien and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Have some beers and tear this movie apart. You’ll have a good time.

BURKE Wells

The War of the Worlds (1953) - 85 minutes

tyranusfan

I don't sense a theme, so these will be all over the place. I'm just going off of some of my nostalgic movies and doing a quick Google search to check run times... A lot of these are older, as that was more common to be closer to 100 minutes Invasion of the Body Snatchers - 1956 - 80 minutes The Hobbit - 1978 Rankin Bass Animation - 78 minutes Return of the King - 1980 Rankin Bass Animation - 98 minutes (recommending those two, because everyone and their cousin has done the live action, and these were the OG) Dark Crystal - 1982 - 93 minutes - the practical effects are just awesome for its time The Last Starfighter - 1984 - 101 minutes Flight of the Navigator - 1986 - 90 minutes Twelve Angry Men - 1957 - 99 minutes - I think you'd like to analyze this one. And I'd also like to cast votes for some of the above suggestions - Planet of the Apes Day the Earth Stood Still Princess Bride Monty Python Truman Show And I love these movies, but they are over 100 minutes Silverado Magnificent Seven Untouchables Rear Window Superman and Superman II Will come back and add stuff as I remember more

Firekrys FWO

Yes! I vote for this too!

Firekrys FWO

Bad Santa, a great Christmas-themed comedy. Clock in at 91 minutes (theatrical) or 99 (extended).

MaskOfBorro

I support Westworld, great movie (the series is even better though) and Dr. Strangelove (a classic)

MaskOfBorro

I would love to have added "The Truman Show", but it's 3 minutes too long.

David Felgate

Comedies and animated films are often under 100 mins. Just about any animated film would qualify (Disney, Pixar, etc.)

David Felgate

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - 93 mins The Princess Bride - 98 mins Tangled - 100 mins Airplane! - 88 mins The Fly (1996) - 96 mins Raising Arizona - 94 mins

David Felgate

Metropolis (1927) - 148 minutes Dr Strangelove (1964) - 94 minutes Planet of the Apes (1968) - 112 minutes The Andromeda Strain (1971) - 130 minutes The Omega Man (1971) - 98 minutes THX 1138 (1971) - 88 minutes Westworld (1973) - 88 minutes Dark Star (1974) - 83 minutes Logan's Run (1976) - 118 minutes Superman (1978) - 143 minutes Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979) - 89 minutes Time after Time (1979) - 112 minutes

deconstructionist66

According to IMDb, the Day the Earth stood still 1951 clocks out at 92 minutes. This movie would be a great choice because it’s one of the best movies ever made, IMO. The alien character,Klaatu, Was acknowledged as one of the main influences for the Mr. Spock character in Star Trek. It’s a perfect film, heavy on character dialogue and story, and not on aliens and explosions in special effects. Light years ahead of its day.

Rich Cirivilleri

Cat-Women Of The Moon (1953). Budget sci-fi that is like proto-Star Trek and also hilarious. So bad it’s great. Just watch the trailer - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0045609/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Paul Rymer

ALFRED HITCHCOCK'S ROPE

Michael Nemo

Ooooo, Aniara...106 minutes. Unique and mind blowing. Substitute my vote with this one :)

Ian C Johnson

Well crap, I vote Enemy Mine but the runtime is 110 minutes

Ian C Johnson

I highly recommend Children of Men from 2006, which clocks in at 109 minutes, if you're willing to fudge. It's so good. Also want to submit Soylent Green, 1973, for your consideration, which runs at 97 minutes according to IMDB.
