UNCUT REACTION - Star Trek The Original Series - S1E1 The Man Trap

It's Labor Day here in the US, and we wanted to give everyone a little surprise!

We have gotten many requests for FULL UNCUT reactions to the first 27 Star Trek TOS episodes from before our Patreon was opened. We won't be able to do that for every episode, but we were able to restore our full reaction to our very first viewing of Star Trek back in February! So you can now watch our FULL UNCUT reaction to The Man Trap!

This post is only accessible here on Patreon, but it is going to be available to everybody as a thank you from us for following us thus far on this journey!

As always the episode is not included and you will need to sync up, and please keep in mind when recording this we did not yet have intentions of it ever being a FULL UNCUT reaction, but I still believe it is a fun watch!

Thank you for being part of the Target Audience & enjoy!

Insanely hyped for this

[I am not sure anyone will read this since this is starting when the channel has just finished 4th season of TNG but who cares, I am starting a rewatch of TOS so why not] Welcome all to the Sex Scoreboard for TOS. This board was originally started as a post on TNG so I guess this is The Sex Scoreboard Next Gen TSSNG and the board from the TNG is The Original Sex Scoreboard TOSS. No wait that is to confusing and TOSS may be confused with tossing off which would not be included on this board. [yes this board is of that level immaturity so if you do not like it do not read it]. See below the scoreboard to see detail on what it is. TOS Kirk 0 Bones 0 Spock 0 Extra: Crewman Darnell 1 new +1 First take: Well we start out with a hard one. Did Bones bone the Monica Lewinsky creature? We want to say yes but just can not find an off screen time that it could happen. If the pills given in Bones room where blue not red we may have been able to count a score but as is the verdict is Bones is NOT the father of the dream girl of Bill Clinton.(sounded dirty but does not make sense…sorry best I had). Next: Crewman Darnell is getting a +1. We think the creature went all pleasure-house on Darnell getting a little salt shaking before the desalination. Who would have guessed that the first score was from a red shi..... I mean blue shirt. So there is the first episode on the bangin' board. Read the details on how scores are determined if you like in the first reply below.

I never saw the uncut season 1 reactions so here we go

Hey, new patron here. I've been watching on and off on YT for a few months and figured I should join up and catch up on the full reactions before the backlog gets too unmanageable. The Man Trap was always on the weaker side to me. There were at least a half dozen eps in S1 that were better pilot material. Still, production was a mess in S1, and the eps aired completely out of production order. Having seen everything Trek myself, It's crazy to think about the scale of the franchise this very humble beginning led to. Little historical factoid, this episode actually aired on CTV here in Canada a couple days before anywhere else. Of the 5(6) trek shows that aired between 1966-2005, TOS was always my least favourite. As a kid in the 90s I liked it well enough, but just on production quality and special effects alone(which of course were even worse before the TOS Blu rays came out), it felt really out of date compared to brand new TNG at the time. Aside from that though, TOS is much more retro futuristic. Trek in general is supposed to be this hopeful vision of the future, and to an extent TOS is, but so many of the ideas of technology, culture, etc.. just scream 1960s. Unlike other trek shows, I can't really watch TOS and feel like I'm looking at the future, I always feel like I'm looking at the past. Still, without it, we wouldn't have the rest of the franchise. Kirk, despite some hammy dialogue, comes across as a pretty even keeled, professional captain. Most of the main cast handle the situation well enough. The crewmen not so much. Roddenberry was in the air force during WW2 and Starfleet is largely based on the US navy, but you can tell this was long before women were really integrated into the military in a meaningful way. The 2 crewmen ogling yeoman Rand in the corridor, or the guy at the beginning just blatantly comparing "Nancy" to a hookup/prostitute he met on shore leave, just a tad unprofessional. Regarding the creature design, it always reminded me of the design of the morlocks from the 1960 Time Machine movie. Creepy as all hell. Really good job for the time. The mouth is actually a modified gas mask. Also I know it was mostly just a joke, but orbiting a planet is actually the best way to "save gas". To hold still over one spot, they would need to keep the engines firing to avoid falling out of the sky. In orbit, gravity and momentum cancel each other out and they're just coasting.

How did I get back here? well I better start at the beginning. How I miss that TOS Music OG head bob..

I was at a convention with George Takei in the mid-1990s in Leeds (UK) and he was saying "oh myyy" quite a lot in general conversation. So I think it was just something he said anyway that got picked up by Stern. That was at the time before UK conventions got really big, so the actors there were just hanging out chatting to people most of the time. Maybe it was more relaxed than some of the bigger US conventions so they could do that.

I know how the George Takei “Oh myyy” happened because I was listening to radio the day it happened. I was listening to the Howard Stern show in the early to mid 2000’s. A prerecorded prank call to Takei from one of the characters from the show pretending to be Ricardo Montalban (Khan) was played to Howard and the audience for the first time. George conversed kinda skeptical with the imposter at first but slowly bought into the con. At one point George says “Oh myyy” and Howard flipped out and stopped the tape and said something like this was the real diamond or gold in this phone call. He began playing that voice sample for different things on his show to the point George was made aware of it and came on the show. George kinda became part of The Stern show from that point on.

This is the perfect bonus feature for the anniversary of Star Trek this week.

Kinda goes to show that NBC was right back in 1966. They decided to air this episode first, instead of "Where No Man Has Gone Before" or "The Corbomite Maneuver," which were the first two filmed. This one hooked you guys, so I guess the network was on to something!

Thanks for sharing, guys!
