2022-08-31 01:09:21 +0000 UTCPeople forget Star Trek had to be stealthy with its themes. Inter-racial marriage was illegal in a bunch of states. Same sex relationships was illegal. It definitely took a swing at this type of prejudice. Future Trek shows could be more straightforward. Gene once told George Takei he could only take on so many battles when dealing with the network, sponsors and affiliates.

2022-08-30 01:27:15 +0000 UTCThis is a nice look at how humanity evolved in Star Trek's universe. Cochrane left Earth when they had met very few aliens (he knew Vulcans, maybe a few others), but Earthers hadn't yet gone into deep space and met the truly weird alien life. Cochrane is repelled by it at first, whereas Kirk, Spock and Bones were easily accepting of it. To them, the "alien-ness" of his lover doesn't bother them at all. It's a nice view of how humanity turned out.
