Welcome to the Patreon everyone! Here is our UNCUT reaction to the full episode of Star Trek TOS: The City on the Edge of Forever.

Please keep in mind this is our first time doing a full episode reaction from a filming and an editing perspective. So any feedback on the technical side or from a reaction standpoint would be helpful!

Once the YouTube edited version is done you will get early access to that as well!

UNCUT REACTION - Star Trek The Original Series - S1E28 The City on the Edge of Forever

TOS Sex Scoreboard eps 23 - 28 We do have two big scores this update. Honestly it is hard to crack jokes about either since both a very emotional ones and have tough endings. Kirk 4 new +1 Bones 1 Spock 1 new+1 Extra: ep 24 - Spock scores big with an upside down hanging from a limb position. I can’t be sure where her legs go but Spock has calculated the perfect angle for pleasure I am sure. That is why all the chicks dig him. Ep 28 – Kirk is the one that falls for the girl in this one. You may argue that nothing happened but I disagree. I am sure over the few days an offscreen gazing into the night turned into a soup kitchen romp ( okay not my best one but dude….she died). Close to the end of season. Now the full eps are all up going forward all eps with a score and a few without will have an update of the hated/disgusting/immature Sex Scoreboard. We will be catching up to the Star Trek 6 movie post on TA with ST 1- 5 included, so I’ve got some watching to do.

While Devil in the Dark is my favourite TOS episode for it's message, I can objectively see that City is one of if not the best episode of the show. The performance from DeForest, Leonard, and especially Bill are among the best in the series. Harlan Ellison wrote a fantastic time travel story that didn't get too bizarre. I do question this one social worker being able to affect America's entry into the war, but it's a small nitpick. The ending especially is such a gut punch. Kirk was probably thinking and hoping that they would just find McCoy and keep him out of the way and in doing so restore the timeline and the Guardian would bring them back leaving Edith to her fate. Given his feelings for her, that's hard enough to deal with, but having to not only watch it happen, but actively ensure that it did is such a cruel position for Kirk to find himself in. The way he just leans up against the door frame clearly hating himself for what he had to do is top tier acting from Shatner. The network wanted the line "let's get the hell out of here" removed. Hard to imagine something so tame being a problem today, but back then using hell as a curse was uncommon. A masterpiece of an episode that really stands the test of time. For me a very close second favourite episode of the series.

Almost a year later and a few Quatloos short (lol), I would say that was my only complaint as well. But it WAS your very first Patreon full reaction so I'll let you slide... THIS time... NEXT time I'll feed you to the ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal... or maybe just drown you guys in a sea of Tribbles lol. On another comedic note, I'm a long-time rock musician. I keep wanting to write a song called "Edith Keeler Must Die" but it hasn't materialized yet... Anyone else wanna try? Go for it.

I signed up for the patreon just to watch these full reactions

I am in the future coming back to watch this..lol

Badger

You asked how they got back. The Guardian explained that they would be returned if they were successful.

Thanks, guys, for doing the full reactions! This was a great episode to kick it off!

This was bought on Amazon, so most likely it's the remastered, I would hope.

Firekrys FWO

Yes, it's gaps between the commercial breaks that vary with different sources.

Zefram Cochrane

My 2011 DVD copy is the fully extended version of the episode and matched precisely with their watching all the way through. The syndicated version cut a few scenes out or shorter due to commercials etc. Be sure the copy you are watching is the remastered version as this is most likely where your 2 minutes were lost.

Brad Barter

Plus most if not all of his previous roles were in Westerns which helps add to McCoy's simply country doctor motif.

Am glad I have TOS, TNG, the original and TNG movies as well as DS9 on DVD so I can watch along with the full reactions on Patreon.

Deforest Kelly was the most experienced actor in the show - so that might explain why you like him so much. He does a good job being the third wheel.

Ricky Johnson

The Original version of the script is in comic book form. Check it out.

Michael Nemo

I said this in the YouTube cut but it bears repeating...Written by perhaps the best scifi fiction writer of all time, the master Harlan Ellison. Check out his short story fiction piece "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" and you will understand the majesty of this episode https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlan_Ellison Great reaction fellas!

And if you ever decide to release some of the raw footage from earlier in the season, I'm not gonna suggest any *ManTrap*cough*SpaceSeed*cough*CharlieX*SquireofGothos*ErrandofMercy*cough*EnemyWithin*cough* but that would be totally awesome. I've been wishing from the beginning for the chance to enjoy a full episode with you guys.

Appreciate the feedback! Definitely a challenge when watching something for the first time to know the best time to talk/react. I think this is a skill we will get better at with time.

Sync worked fine for me. My only complaint was your discussion with each other was over dialogue that should have been listened to. Talk over the well known bad episodes (it would be welcomed) but if one is considered really good I would try and give lee-way to the dialogue. I would be complaining if you guys were talking over Barry a lot as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! For the discord it wouldn’t be for live during our reactions but just an active server for the community to use in general. Great idea on showing the picture for a few seconds for syncing purposes! Showing the first few seconds after it comes back from a “commercial” could be a good time for that since those happen every 10 minutes or so.

YAHOOOOOOO!!! Bought this episode and the next, and when I get my paycheck I'm 'investing' in Season Two, so I can't miss a minute with you guys. This is definitely one of the top favorite episodes. Most TOS fans will have this on the upper end of their list. I wouldn't recommend doing a Discord chat while watching, as there's so many people typing that you can't stop and read it, and keep watching at the same time. The one video I watched on another channel, they displayed the chat on the side of the video and watching the comments scroll through was quite distracting. But that is just for me. Few suggestions - I know for copyright you are showing just a timer over the picture, but my video didn't have quite the same speed as yours, so I would sync it and it would be fine, but after about 10-15 minutes, it's a second or two ahead. If you could play at least a few minutes with a clear picture, it can help me sync it up better. Up to you, but I have seen one channel go back to blurry picture and every now and then show a clear picture just to make sure you're synced up. This helps slightly because if you get too much out of sync, and your time code isn't correct, you might have to go to the beginning to get it right. I was still able to make it work, and I'm just glad to enjoy this entire episode with you, especially since it's one of the best

Firekrys FWO

That's awesome! Thanks Rich!

Thank you Gary!

This was so awesome! I got the email notification last night at midnight and couldn't wait so I threw the episode on my projector and had this reactio0n vid on my phone so it was like we were in the same room. thanks for the patreon page. Glad you both really liked the ep. more greats coming up REALLY soon.

Rich Cirivilleri

Thank you! I'm so glad you started your Patreon with this episode and not "The Alternative Factor!" :-) This is a great episode, it's not my personal favorite (that's coming up in season two) but wow...this is some of the best of Star Trek! That ending still gets me! I'm grateful you started posting on Patreon because it's gives me motivation to re-watch these episodes (it's been a while - there is so much great new TV to watch). I really enjoy watching you guys and like hearing your opinions! Also, I'm looking forward to catching up on Barry Season 3 with you! Keep up the great work!
