How I will update development (Public Post)
Added 2020-04-29 19:21:23 +0000 UTCI wanted to put this down real quickly while I have my thoughts. I will try and update at least once a week and/or more often if important to do so. I'm not sure how a lot of people that make games like this update this kind of thing, but I will be very precise if I can with specifics. For example, if I am updated up to 40 renders and say 1,000 words, I will say exactly that so one can really have a rough idea where I am overall. Now, not every week will be as productive as every other week as some are good and some will be not quite as good due to a number of factors in real life, but I think anyone paying deserves precise information, so that's what you are going to get every week from me. No vague "nice progress" this week but exact numbers.
Example of say a Week 3 in 0.2 update: not real :)
This week: 75 renders, script 2,000 words
Overall Progress: 197 renders, script 6,300 words
(ok, if I can do this in three weeks I'd be ok, haha!)
To note: Version 0.1 was about 18,500 words and 450 renders (I am not counting the introduction in that total which was about another 20 renders) overall. This is maybe a decent estimate of what to expect with an update. It may be a little shorter or longer as it greatly depends on the context of the overall narrative and what makes sense, but I would probably not release an update under 400 renders no matter what and if I crossed like 600 to 650 renders, I might begin to wonder if it's time to stop. As I said in another post, if I pass 12 weeks, I will stop billing until I finish an update. So if on July 31 I do not have 0.2 finished, August will not bill anyone!
Desired time frame: Go hard May 1 to July 1 or so and finish everything. Try to take 7-8 weeks to finish, and 3-7 days to edit, add music, and test (my last things I do). Version 0.1 took EXACTLY from February 18 to April 21 to finish, and I released publicly on I think April 24th, so that gives a rough idea of what I hope is similar output. I hope I am slightly faster due to the very steep learning curve for 0.1, but I expect a similar curve for putting together a 0.2 to connect to another code for the first time too. I also don't know how COVID will impact free time both positively or negatively as my work is a business that can ebb and flow at times. I think 0.3 actually is where I will speed up the most to be honest. Or, alternatively, if I manage to improve my computer, that probably helps a lot as 80% of my renders in 0.1 exceeded 6GB and I had to tweak on some level! Thank you and stay safe out there and enjoy every moment you can!
