Since Abed was re-enacting 'The Fugitive' movie with Harrison Ford (in the opening episode)... hopefully you'll watch it soon. And that tag with Chang with the uniforn / saluting close-ups was almost shot for shot imitating a famous scene from 'Patton'.

The War was about 4 US cities and small towns, its inhabitants and the soldiers from those places that served and died in World War II. It is an excellent documentary and that was also Keith David narrating that Community episode in the same format of The War and The Civil War.
