Whiplash (2014)

Incredible movie I did not expect this at all. Regardless of intent and the end result that guy is vile. You can be a strict teacher with that type of attitude but physically abusing your students and emotionally abusing them to the point of suicide is not good teaching. This movie shot up my anxiety it was crazy

James

I wanted to watch this movie for a while but I am so happy I waited for you guys to react to it! What a great movie, I am really impressed.

Flopsi80

Such a good one. Anxiety inducing cinema

On my umpteenth rewatch of this I hate Fletcher less and understand Andrew more. In the end Fletcher wins, he got his Bird, and in the end Andrew wins because he got his Buddy Rich moment. But they both lose because the are profoundly fucked up people. At least they could say they were good at something...I guess. Gimme a sequel where they are lovers or something, they are perfect for each other.

finally!!!

The love I have for this movie is without end

This is one of the few films from Blumhouse Productions that isn't a horror movie...but for anyone who has studied music, this is a horror movie. J.K. Simmons (who won pretty much every best supporting actor award for this role) actually has a music degree from the University of Montana and is an accomplished singer - he's performed in operas and on Broadway. Miles Teller meanwhile has been drumming since he was 15, though he had to take lessons for this role and obviously didn't perform the more difficult portions.

I'm really happy it was picked. Unexpectedly satisfying. It leaves up to the critics reviews and recommendations.

MarySoul

I see what you did here 😉

This movie is so stressful but I love it. Both protagonists are in a search for perfection and end up finding it in the most unconventional way. This movie opens up a dialogue about motivation vs tyranny. At the end we (the public) are conflicted because we can see that Fletcher’s method as traumatizing as it is for his students, created a monster (in a good way). But was it worth the trauma? Oh this movie is so good ✨ An Oscar well deserved for J.K Simmons who had already traumatized me in Oz previously 😂.

Kamanda Hickey

This movie is my tempo.

First time I've seen this. Exceeded my expectations and they were pretty high. J. K. Simmons has always been this good. Miles Teller continues to be this good. Excellent.

This one is special to me, it's the film that made me interested in cinema as a whole when I was a closeminded teenager only interested in SF, Fantasy or action movies, I remember thinking "oh Jonah Jameson and that guy from Project X in a movie, that could be interesting" 🥲 But it only became one of my favorites after I rewatched it a second time (then a third, and fourth...), so yes I would advise to do a rewatch to anyone watching it for the first time here, 100% worth it ! J.K Simmons won his first Oscar with this movie and I don't think anyone can say it's not deserved ! Miles Teller was nominated that year too but he didn't won sadly. Just for that one scene where he is training in front of Fletcher and he looks completely in a trance he would have deserved one in my opinion. Anyway I could talk about this movie for hours, thank you Rob & Trin for picking for a thursday I was getting desperate haha, glad you enjoyed it !

Haha yesss

Chloe Arabella

band camps + chairs being thrown, name a more iconic duo.

Phil Tilly

Yes! Good movie

Ben

As a drummer I’m gonna say a few things first the actor playing the kid isn’t actually playing but they do a good job of hiding it. Second I have had teachers like this I’ve had chairs and drum sticks thrown at me. I believe it made me a better musician and pushed me to be greater than I ever thought. Without teachers willing to push their students to be something more we start to settle for good enough

Chloe Arabella

oh i been waiting for this!!! This is the scariest non horror movie lol.

Phil Tilly

So excited!
