The Expanse S4E7+8 A Shot In The Dark - The One-Eyed Man

Let's not be too starry-eyed about Avasarala. She is a consummate politician, and has been since the first episode. We've seen her torture a prisoner, manipulate a close friend, extort someone to gain their cooperation, lie to a grieving spouse to gain access to their dead husband's office, etc. We've even seen her use the story of the death of her son before when she needed Holden's mom to open up to her. In GoT, Tyrion once described Cersei as "using honest feelings to do dishonest work" -- so, not exactly lying, but certainly not being honest. Avasarala is great at wheeling and dealing behind the scenes, but we're seeing she's not adept at electoral politics. She antagonizes people and rubs them the wrong way, and while she can often use that to get what she wants, it really won't inspire people to vote for her.

So good! Always a mayor rush of emotions and clever surprise turns and twists.

Avasarala did tell the truth, but she did it all in a strategic way to benefit her campaign status, which is not bad in and of itself. But, she did leak classified information to do it and Arjun has a right to his feelings about how she chose to use their son's death. She went off script to do that and didn't let him know beforehand that she was thinking about doing that and she admitted it was for political purposes, not because she was overcome with emotion to reveal those details. It was calculated and like I said, that's not a bad thing in and of itself, but from Arjun's POV, it's kinda skeevy. The danger on Ilus and her leaking that info is not about keeping people from going there. No one is asking to go there, specifically. She was trying to give the public the same fear that she has about going through the gates to unknown worlds, in general, to say "It's hella dangerous out there! Y'all don't wanna go out there." She could've declassified that stuff instead of leaking it, but I think if it was known that she did that, it might look like a politician selectively releasing info to benefit themselves. So, she leaked it to seem like it was just some impartial person and not have her direct fingerprints on it. That's how I see her moves anyway. I didn't see it that way the first time I watched it because I was fully on her side (and I still like her and am on her side over Gao), but on subsequent viewings, I can get a bigger picture and catch more details than I did on first viewing.

I love that conversation between Esai and Bobby about Mars dying. Or being dead already. I can't pinpoint why but it gives me chills thinking about that scenario. All those people working to make Mars habitable and then abandoning it for new worlds.

So the peoples were mad when she blew up a ship that Marco was on and now she chose to go the more diplomatic route and send the Marines in and it's still a problem what would they like her to do

Man, this show is bad for my health. The first episode my eyes were itching...and during the second my skin was itching. Those death slugs were creepy in the book, but they're downright nightmarish in the show.
