FIRST TIME WATCHING: The Bourne Identity (2002)

Comments

There were Christmas trees or Christmas lights in many places in this film, such as the American Embassy, the diner/gas station.

Cindy

I remember watching this a long time ago, now It all came back...mostly . The movie was nice, but probably too oversimplified. Rob talked about this a bit, as the mistery about who he was and who he belonged to was pretty quickly solved. God, you should read the book by Robert Ludlum; it keeps you on the edge of your seat for all the time you read it and you don't really find out about who he is and what he does until the final few chapters. And not even then is all of it explained, some things are left out until the second and third book ( The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum ), which said books don't have much to do with the movies. Seriously, read the books; they are amazing, better than any action movie you'll ever see.

The Departed, Bourne Identity, The Martian, Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan, Oppenheimer ...you watched some great Matt Damon movies 🥰😀

Ninaofthe90s

It's been over 15 years since I've seen this series (I think I only saw the first 3). Nice to watch along with you guys fairly blind too because there was so much I had forgotten!

Bourne flows really well as the intended Trilogy. All are adaptions of the Robert Ludlum novels. Hopefully you can squeeze in The Bourme Supremacy next month. This was a great watch! The Julia Stiles reveal didn't disappoint.

Octavia

The whole trilogy is pretty solid - I recommend it. The Bourne movies were definitely influential (hell, it even influenced the reboot of the James Bond franchise), particularly the quick-cut editing style that became overly-ubiquitous in the following years..until John Wick came around and re-influenced the genre again. BTW, the director Doug Limon is American, though the DP is English and the director of the sequels Paul Greengrass is also English...

Before john wick there was jason bourne 😎

Farva

Yes, the whole 2 second shot of the Christmas tree makes it qualify. 😄 Great movie anyway.

The Bourne trilogy is one of those great spy\action series which has a great score by John Powell (When he wasn't solely doing animated movies) and great car chase setpieces.. (I've seen them all a lot but for this one, I never recognized Walton Goggins in the background of the CIA office..)

Superpotroast

But there's a Christmas tree at Eamon's house..So who knew Bourne Identity was actually a Christmas movie after all..

Superpotroast

The Girl is Franka Potente. She is from Germany. And I think she and Matt were a couple for a short time after that movie. A short affair

AnGeLuS

Yes, there are actually 5 Bourne films and I love them all equally. Although the 4th film deviates to an extent, I won't spoil it, it is still really good.

Cindy

Excited to watch the next two again with you guys! BAck to back action months? ;)

One of the best series of the 2000s. The first 3 are really solid. They are essentially one story and then the 2 after are a bit Hollywood cash grabby, in that it felt like they made them because it was an IP that was popular. I still need to watch the last one but maybe you folks will get to it before me and I can just watch it with you. All of them are at minimum watchable. I feel like the Bourne Identity is why we got a grittier and somewhat more grounded James Bond with Daniel Craig in Casino Royale a few years after. The Bond movies drift back to their roots as they go but the Bourne movies did for action in the early 2000s what John WIck did in the 2010s. You can see the ripple effect if you watch a lot of movies and even TV. Similar to how Star Wars, Blade Runner, and The Matrix had a marked effect on the many films makers and films that came out after. Not saying the Jason Bourne flicks are as foundational as those, but I remember seeing movies that came after it aping it's tone and style. Great reaction and always fun to see a movie I have seen, maybe too many times, through fresh eyes.

This is just the start of one of the best action series ever made. The next two sequels build on the events in this one, it’s an evolving storyline. This may not have been my ideal choice for Christmas Month, but it is a great movie. Now you’ve seen the first one, I hope it won’t be too long until you get to see the truly excellent sequels.

Jan T

Action might not have been the best choice for some people but for me it’s perfect, I’m excited for all the movies coming up

Tyrone Byrne

I love this trilogy! Really hope we get to see 2 and 3 sooner rather than later :)

Kale

Yes! Thank you! A great movie. But this was only part one of the complete story. It was always meant to be a trilogy. Can’t wait until you watch the next one, Bourne Supremacy, and finally, Bourne Ultimatum. Many of your questions may be answered if you do. The other “Bourne” movies were added much later because of the popularity of these original three. In my opinion, they don’t come close to these.

MaggieS61

My absolute favorite espionage-action trilogy. There are actually 5 Bourne movies but the original trilogy, Identity, Ultimatum and Supremacy are the key films. Legacy was a spinoff without Damon (apologies for the spoiler) and breaks with storyline. The fifth movie, Jason Bourne, features the return of Matt Damon and is considered by many to be an unnecessary extention of the Bourne storyline. Personally, I enjoyed it but the initial 3 movies are a perfectly satisfying trilogy.

Gerald Colborn

Yes!!

John Borek

One of my favorite movie series! Hope you enjoy.

Octavia

Pleaseeee watch the whole series. Has an unfolding storyline
