The Expanse S4E1+2 New Terra - Jetsam

Mr Robot is AMAZING, and all of the computer code on every screen was valid. Also everything they did related to any tech used was a closely monitored for accuracy — just like this show. Mr. Robot even had hackers that had to remain Anonymous (😉) that assisted with the show’s accuracy. I was sold on that show within the first 10 minutes. (IYKYK 😎)

I am aware of all of that, I was locked in when all the drama around it's cancellation happened. To be clear I am not saying going over to Amazon increased the quality of the show in some way, but there is a bit of a difference that Rob and Trin noticed. One of my favorite behind the camera elements of this show is that Naren and his whole team, including Ty and Daniel, is that they didn't get over indulgent. All of the effects and shots stay consistent and economical through out the whole show but you can see where they spend their money and in season 4, just by the nature of where the story is going, you can see an uplift in the frequency and quality of the effects. So while it's not like Bezos opened up his wallet for them, there has to have been some financial support from Amazon outside of pure distribution because as shows go on they just get more expensive. There wouldn't have needed to be a "Save the Expanse" campaign after Sci-Fi dropped the show if Alcon could just fund and make it in a vacuum.

Nice. I need to watch Mr. Robot. I wasn't watching much "appointment" TV when it started and then didn't have access to any service that was running it.

Syfy didn't hold certain rights to the show, Alcon only sold 3 seasons to Syfy at first..And Syfy didn't make as much money keeping The Expanse on their network as other shows at the time, so that is their main reason for canceling it..Amazon (Bezos) gave them the opportunity to put it on Prime and gave them 3 more seasons.. Now I know that Season 4 seems to look way better in terms of special effects, but Amazon didn't really 'expand' their budget much..They just got better at making their show for cheaper.. But Syfy are still idiots for letting this show go..

I'm pretty sure those first shots, from above, on Ilus were filmed in Iceland though 'cause I remember them saying that in a special before its release, when it was kinda first look/sneak peek at it.

I started watching the show right before this season because I'd heard it was picked up after SyFy dumped it and there were a few sources telling people stuff like "it's the best show no one is watching." The Normies had watched it from the beginning and were constantly singing it's praises, which is why the show's writers gave them a little shout-out by naming Bobbie's sister-in-law "Rana" after Rana of the Normies. I binged the first 3 seasons a few months before this season started. It is also one of my favorite series of the last decade and I'd also throw in Mr. Robot, along with those others. I only just finished that last month.

Ilus is a quarry near Toronto

You gotta remember what the proto-molecule was. It was a tech meant to take over and utilize simple complex life and built a bridge from it. But now we are dealing with the rest of the technology from the builders civilization. It's a whole new playbook

It had been about a year and a half since season 3 aired on Syfy when Amazon Prime dropped season 4...but it was worth the wait. It was given a bigger budget (I believe Ilus was filmed on location in Iceland) and being on streaming allowed the episodes to be longer...and Avasarala to be even more potty-mouthed...

This is the first season after Amazon saved the show from cancellation I believe. Sci-Fi channel gave up on it because they were idiots but Jeff Bezos, in a rare W, decided to pick it up and keep it going. Amazon took over distribution of the show and also funding it I think. It still bums me out that people missed out on this show partly because Sci-Fi channel had no idea how to properly market it but even Amazon didn't as much as they could to surface this show so could get more eyes would get on it. There are 4 shows in the last decade that popped to the top of my favorite things; The Expanse, Arcane, True Detective (especially season 1) and Andor. Edit: In the scene where Holden is giving Naomi the gravity drugs she mentions that it makes her feel better that Martians have to take them too but hold quips back that Martians spend time training at 1G (earth gravity) so they get more time to acclimate. Naomi is going in fairly hot, and the drugs don't work the same for everyone. When Bobby lands on earth it isn't the gravity that is giving her most of the issues, it is the how teh sky and horizons mess up her perception because they spend most of their lives under domes. That is why in that one scene where she sells her meds to that cool dude in the slums, while she is trying to get out to see the ocean, he tries to teach her how to center her vision at her feet and then bring her eyes up to the horizon to try and set her equilibrium and perception so she wouldn't get disoriented. Edit 2: Once you meet Marco Inaros, you begin to understand Naomi's behavior. At least I did.
