FIRST TIME WATCHING - Trading Places (1983)

I had not seen this movie until now and can't help but think that O. Henry's 'The Million Pound Bank Note' has something to do with it.

Had a lot of fun with this reaction! If the movie did not set up the characters as they were in the beginning, the payoff wouldn’t be as satisfying. Really enjoyable movie and wholesome without being too cheesy. And the bacon and BLT sandwich bit leading to a fourth wall break was sweet. 😁

It took two days, but I finished this reaction. As always, great reaction! Glad you enjoyed the movie!

1:44:19 - I don't know if you caught that, but all these traders were doing coke in the stalls to get hyped up for trading. That's why they all jumped out at the bell.

I actually applaud '80s movies like this for not mincing words. We're supposed to be appalled by their old entitled racism and prejudices. Instead of the modern way of couching everything in allusions as if it didn't exist -- or that it still exists. People, unfortunately, were / are like that. It should bother us. It makes a very affective social satire of the Reagan era, wrapped in great humor. I'd rather they so casually show their true despicable characters, within the context, even when it's unpleasant -- than pc it and allow it to slip past. Thanks for watching, great reaction.

There is something in Coming to America a person would not find significant if they had not watched Trading Places first.

Cindy

Coming to America isn’t a sequel to this, but simply in the same universe. 😊

This was my Sister’s favorite movie. We would quote it to each other constantly. Good memories and great reaction, I am happy to see/hear you guys laughing! Good stuff, looking forward to the rest of the month and Coming to America when you get to it!!!
