FIRST TIME WATCHING Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) REACTION

Comments

I saw this in theaters with no expectations, I didn't even know the planet of the Apes pre-existed. I mean how could I? im turning 26 next month! My step father introduced me to rise of the Planet of the Apes, so that was my introduction to the franchise. Sometime later, I think during after I saw dawn of the Planet of the Apes (the sequel) I mistakenly saw the original film, thinking it was the version I saw at the movie theaters. Again unaware the series pre-existed, they did a marathon of the original Planet of the Apes. I can't remember if it was a movie or show, but to me as a child felt like episodes because I was binge watching for a long, long time. So many hours I invested in that marathon. I was paranoid if I was to get up or go to the bathroom I was going miss something, I felt like days went by. I think I watched 10 hours of the marathon straight while fighting to stay awake. the marathon ran on this channel called syfy for 16 hours each day I think. All I remember is I try to watch the marathon next day and it was on a scene or movie or episode that I was completely lost in, I gave up on the marathon from that point because I was so confused on what happening. But i remember liking the original, but it just the marathon burnt me out, and the fact I totally missed out on an episode or movie or whatever it was, made me discouraged. So I haven't even try as an adult to revisit the original nor do I have interest into doing so. These remakes are are much more digestible for me. I love the remakes.

Carl

I had no opinion of this movie, good or bad. I would have never considered watching it on my own, however, I was very pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed it so much. About to start the next one and looking foward the one that's coming up this month!

Amber B.

Had to re watch for a second time just because 🥰 I'm so glad you both enjoyed this one I love when we vote for films that pass your expectations makes it twice as fun to watch your reactions.

Shelley

I have to cosign this, Ted Lasso would be a really good fit!

Konrad Knaup

Wow this was surprisingly good!

Louis Hung

Image if war got through, but dawn didn't lol

Kim Magee

🤣

Kim Magee

It's like if Hogwarts sent Malfoy on work experience 🤣🤣🤣

@AmethystRock

We can be sure to put War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) in the next poll.

Michelle

When is the polls maybe we can watch 2 soon 😀

Kim Magee

They kind of gloss over it very quickly, but the reason why Koba looks so rough, is because he's spent his entire life in labs getting experimented on. That's why he had his hand out immediately for a cookie. He knows the routine.

Jason Pike

Saw the trailer for the new one coming out, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" and it looks like a take on the original, but in this universe and from the apes' perspective. I was like, "NICE!"

Thadman

I watched this one again (saw it in the theater), because I'd been meaning to watch the others. I bought the trilogy a while ago and I wanted to watch the rest and now I can go right to the second one and third. I'm glad to hear that someone thinks they get better. Not that I didn't like this, I did, it's just a lot of sequels don't get better. But, I'm a big PotA fan since seeing the originals as a kid MULTIPLE times.

Thadman

Please do the next 2 quick!

Christian Tidball

Completely irrelevant but at some point you guys need to watch ‘ted lasso’ and ‘severance’ probably some of the best shows to come out in recent years

KGkyle

It is in fact a prequel and the space mission that keeps getting referenced is in fact the same one that sets off the og planet of the apes!

Cynthia

One of my favorite movies of all time perfect trilogy

Luis

This movie had no business being as good as it was...especially after the first remake which was (to put it politely) a mistake. I do like how the humans are not shown as inherently evil - with the possible exception of "Malfoy" - just misguided.

Michael Celia

Rob: "It's like another planet!" Well, the Endor scenes from Return of the Jedi were filmed there...

Michael Celia

Thanks for reacting 💜💜

Jenny Lee Villanueva

As cute as apes and monkeys are you’d never want one as a pet it would eat off your face in a heartbeat and it’s like 3 times stronger than a human it’s a killing machine when it wants to be

James

You guys really should try and squeeze these in pretty soon I'm not sure if it's the next one or the one after but there's an after you like coming up

Kim Magee

Yeah I have to agree that these movies just keep getting better can't wait for the fourth one

Kim Magee

Saw thin theaters, and the other 2as well great fun! Glad you enjoyed it, Andy Sirkis did the voice and CGI for Ceasar...FYI, A new movie is coming in 2024!

Anthony Ancona

He does the voice too

Ben

By the way, Ceasar is "played" by Andy Serkis, who was also Gollum/Sméagol in LOTR :)

Adam Belfort

Apes together strong. I love these films so much and the writers have done such an awesome job with the first instalment getting us on the apes pov rather than starting with a human like the older movies. Your reactions to ceaser speaking was what I was mainly looking forward to and you didn't disappoint. I remember feeling just as shocked and proud when I first seen it 😅. I hope we can squeeze Dawn of the planet of the apes into a poll soon because yall will be blown away by how good these movies progress.

Shelley

I'm here for their reaction to Tom Felton.

Wendy Sparks

APES TOGETHER STRONG. Gotta squeeze Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in the next one !

Adam Belfort

It is a trilogy with a fourth coming out next year, the old alpha is named Rocket and he was still alive at the end there, I think they just showed a random ape to show they have lost a comrade, also Caesar is voiced and motion captured by Andy Serkis of course as he is the king of mocap.

Josh B.

Koba wasn’t asking for permission putting his hand out. They do more than that to indicate asking for permission. They also lower their head. Koba did not lower his head to the scientist.

Leah B

Being very fond of the original movies (1968-1973)... I like this modern retelling. (Sort of prequel.) Because the latter original Planet of the Apes movies about Caesar were always my favorites. (Particularly, Battle for the Planet of the Apes.) So I appreciate all of the nods to the originals. Especially... that here Caesar's mother was called 'Bright eyes'. And in the original PoA movie, Caesar's mother called Charlton Heston's character, 'Bright eyes'. Love that, and more.

Octavia

Yeap the Redwoods in California are real and extremely huge, look at pictures of people next to the trunks, I'm pretty sure they're the biggest trees in the world and among some of the oldest.

HeauxHalter

Caesar's such a great character, one of the rare trilogies where each movie is better than the last

Gary

The trilogy on got better imo i really hope you do the next ones, they are such masterclasses in writing and cinematography

Roy

Yay these movies are so good.

Alyssa Dyson

It won

Han

Thought this lost the poll? Great choice to do it though
